    Trick is to sit your vinyl cover outside in the sun for 20 minutes then bring it inside and quickly begin installing the cover and stapling. Does two things, stretches it out for easy installation and makes a tighter fit. If you do it cold, it looses up in the sun and looks baggy and gets worse over time. Other than that, good job! I just did a 1972 Chevy truck seat. That black vinyl can burn your hands after it been in the sun!

      A Very good tip, if you do this again, epoxy in those T-Nuts and smear a gob of epoxy over them once they are installed. If you remove and replace the seat a few times, those T-Nuts will slip out of the holes. been there done that - No Fun...

    Excellent video. Very informative and easy to follow along. I am planning to make my own mini bike seat. My daughter and I picked up the material today. I have all of the tools and a sewing machine but I do not have the experience operating the sewing machine.

    that truly takes a high skill level to do for sure , ive always wondered how that was done , ive done collision repair for 35 yrs and now i do small engine repair its great !! i built a mini bike for a customer that supplyed all the parts luckyly the seat was covered but the blind nuts were strpped out i just carefully moved the seat back one inch and drilled new holes but it wasnt to my standard of quality ,i would like to get a sewing machine and learn that lost skill its amazing to me

      it's not hard I would just do it. if you take aim and keep steady you get straight lines with the machine pulling fast. need little practice but it's easy.

    So you said you used 1/8 scrim- im guessing the 3/4 would really puff up ? Im looking for big pillows between seams.

    Awesome job can I give a tip? When applying the vinyl to the pad use spray adhesive like super 77. Then leave the vinyl inside out and roll it on. Like a condom.

    Very cool! The diamond pattern gives it a neat retro look. Looks like I need to break out the sewing machine. But like you said in the last video, I haven't sewn anything since Middle School Home Ec. class. Unfortunately, for me, that was over 30 yeas ago! LOL

    hey man bad ass seat build heres a little tip iuse to make boat seats just like your doing here for a boat company spray the foam down with adhesive glue and put some kind of thin plastic on over the foam and pray the plastic with silicon spray it helps big time to slip the seat into the vinyl thought maybe you could use that trick on your next build

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  9 років тому

    If you want a hump you have to create the hump in the vinyl.

    It’s a shame about the plywood bulging out at the ends. Do you think the foam wasn’t dense enough to hold its shape all the way through or the pad was a little undersized?

    • @KartFab
      @KartFab  6 років тому

      Pad was undersized. You can overlap quite a bit.

    • @dansmessygarage6720
      @dansmessygarage6720 6 років тому

      If you shape the wood to match the radius you used on the corners of the seat you won't have the edges of the wood sticking out like that. The vinyl will wear through and tear on those shape wood corners that you have.
      You can pull the staples, round the wood properly and re-install the cover to make it look professional.
