Six years ago I was almost 400 pounds. I went to a dietitian who asked me to scan the barcode on everything I ate for one day or write down what I ate and take a picture of it. Eat what I normally eat but make sure everything gets written down. I ate nearly 5000 calories that day and that was an average day. Somedays I ate more, somedays maybe a little less. In the end it was about finding a sustainable meal plan, not a diet and exercising regularly. I avoid refined sugar and prioritize protein eating about 200 grams a day. If you watch this channel regularly this should sound familiar. I feel so much better. My energy and mood are very consistent now. No more sugar highs and lows. Forever Strong has been right on for me.

You eat 200g of protein? This is about how much a bodybuilder eats... I eat like 50g on average with about 170pounds bodyweight. I even do strength sports. And I seem to be totally fine...

I feel the carbon insulin model is a subset of the energy balance model, ie it's a more refined explanation for the calories, not a refutation of the calories

I managed to shed 39 lbs / 18 kgs by eating the OMAD way.
60% coming from fat, mostly nuts and seeds.
Fasted workouts and NEAT was my go-to method of moving; no specific cardio like x amount of steps were done.
    Find what works for you.

I love this channel, BUT this discussion is very frustrating. The bottom line here is all of the above and we don't know. I will say there were some great nuggets of knowledge. Keep up the good work, we all appreciate it.

@24:15 it's not about how much or what you are eating. It's why.
going from 500 to 290 lb as of today, 'eating your emotions' is not just a 'factor' it's EVERYTHING.
Make yourself eat the exact same food every single day for every single meal - JUST TRY IT.
Somedays are no problem. Somedays are a nightmare. Why? NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
I could write 100 page essay on 'excuses' my brain makes to eat.
The people that got out of that overfeeding study went back to normal. They didn't overeat b/c of negative emotions before, so they wont' do it now.

I am sorry to say this, but you were very impatient with your guest. How many times you interrupted him without letting him complete his thoughts especially when he was making analogies and trying to explain ideas? Nonstop interruption.
Then the ads, it was so unnerving and frustrating.
Honestly, you didn't deserve to have this guest and I can understand why he stays away from it all.

Gosh, so many ads it really affects my sense of your credibility honestly ... I wonder if your guest approved of all this stuff before he got on. On one side it really communicates that you're primarily trying to make a buck and the scientist seems incredibly incredible... Maybe when you have really highly esteemed guests ease off on the ads

It amazes me how no one in these spaces ever talk about beliefs, consciousness and information overload in any of these.
30-50 years ago, we didn't have obesity issues, now, with the advent of the "INFORMATION AGE" people are so confused that thier unconcus mind has no idea how to process information.
It is truly unfortunate that the medical community does not acknowledge consciousness and beleifs and perceptions.
All you have to do is look at picture of the past and see most people were skinny, We weren't bombarded with opinion, commercials, TV, Movies, Social Media etc. Peoples minds had the opportunity to get and organize on certain ideas and they lived from that. Now, oh we have a new drug, a new diet, a new way of thinking a new workout plan, oh and don't forget now it's about MTOCR and Mitchorial Fucningt and Gut Health. I'm not saythihg these don't have thier place, but all these people are doing is playing wackamo, just because they think they are more intelligent than what God created. People in indigenous areas don't have the problems that Modern Intellectuals Create. Yea I said it, The intellectuals all create these problems.
Ask a LION about Gut Health or Mictochrial Function. I know they can' t speak, but they aren't stupid.

So we just need to stop thinking about our food and we'll be skinny again? Just a little crazy, huh? It's the food quality that has fallen over the decades: sugars-especially HFCS, seed oils, refined carbs, additives to processed foods that are designed for addiction.

I wanted to share my experience because I tend to be a bit overweight and yet I don't eat processed food, I cook all of my meals, I eat a lot of proteins and good veggies, and yet, I tend to overeat... Even on protein !! for instance I eat a lot of Greek Yoghourt with plant based protein, I find it delicious. Why is that ? is it because of the carbs ?

Try to get used to not to overeat. Don't forget movement!!! This meaning some sports if you like, but even more so important is day to day movement. Especially if you are an American. You guys have very often hardy any day to day movement...

I'm surprised and disappointed that the subject of light was never raised, even though Dr. Alexis Cowan was recently on this podcast explaining the fundamental importance of full-spectrum sunlight and how food is basically a secondary source of fuel for us, after light.
No diet will keep your weight regulated or your health intact if you have a junk light diet.

Constructive criticism from a huge fan. It's such a pity when you secure a world expert as a guest but don't ensure he has a mic close to his mouth, so he's easier to listen to and understand. His accent made it even more difficult and we need to hear from experts from other countries. I'm sure that he is completely unaware that his setup (probably talking into a laptop) meant that he is less intelligible. When voice clarity for hosts and guests on podcasts is now a given (your's is great), I'm convinced that when it is more difficult to understand (noisy restaurant effect) a huge percentage of listeners switch off within a minute or two, and never hear the goodness. Your UA-cam stats may show this drop off. A simple tip is to send your guest a $20 set of wired Apple EarPods and this places the in-wire mic close to his mouth and makes a significant difference. You may consider re-releasing a version with captions. At least you have chapters. Sorry for the feedback. I hope you take it as well meant.
