Your heat mats are fantastic and they are not to hot and not too cold, keep up the good work!
it says we can't put hides directly on it! but if you have a gecko... you kinda have to. i'm so confused.
There's multiple ways to provide heat. I'd recommend checking out our Repti Shelter which can make for a great humidity chamber:
zoomed.com/repti-shelter-3-in-1-cave/
A gecko needs a warm home though. And a humid one. And a cold one.
SlimeUs slimey I know. I’m confused too. I have a leopard gecko and you are supposed to have a warm hide.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. link doesn’t work
If you hook it up to a thermostat you don’t need any protection and you can put the hide right on top
They are great I use them in my cherry head outside enclosure in winter, i mounted them on the ceiling, perfectly makes thr temp inside at 72 while outside temp is 52-60
I have these on my Leopard gecko and Ball python and they love it! Thanks Zoo Med!🙂
Glad they like it. :)
You’re welcome
Super helpful! I was hesitant to place it beneath her little hideaway! I'm glad I did not! 😊
I've had my heating pad for less than 6 months and now it wont stay stuck to the side of the tank. Is there a tape or adhesive I can use?
im still questioning why you cant use a hide for leopard geckos, they need there belly heat so other heating devices wont work.
I suppose it's a liability issue on the part of Zoo Med, but it's ridiculous to say never put the hide over the heat mat. Everyone places their reptiles' warm hides right over the heat mat. You have to. That's the whole point of having a warm hide. What they should say in this video is that heat mats should never be used without attaching them to a good thermostat!
I purchased the 20 gal snake starter kit and one of these heating pads was included. I just plugged everything in and I let it sit for about 30 minutes, but the pad doesn’t seem to be heating up at all. I didn’t see any on/off switches so I’m assuming it turns on as soon as I plug it in. Am I missing something, or does it take longer to heat up?
I just bought one of these and am having the same issue. I seen this was posted 8 months ago. Did you ever figure it out? If so, please let me know! Otherwise I'm just going to return it and get a heat lamp. Thanks!
can i use the heat pad on the back of the tank if i have spray insolation on the inside of the tank on the back?
I wouldn't. You'll want to avoid anything that may incapsulate the heat so thoroughly, doing so may cause stress cracks in the glass or worse. Instead, I would suggest putting it on one of the sides where it is less obscured. This way it can transfer heat more efficiently through the glass while still having some "breathing room".
Hope that helps some. Feel free to contact our Customer Service if you have any more questions:
1-888-496-6633
Take care.
Is there an on-off switch or do i just unplug and plug it in whenever i need? Also, do i keep it on all the time unless it gets too hot??
There is no on/off switch on our Under Tank Heaters. We recommend plugging them into either a timer or thermostat to better control the temps your habitat are receiving. See our website for more info on our heating supplies:
zoomed.com/category/terrarium-products/heatingthermostatsgauges/
Hope that helps. :)
Just use a thermostat, it’ll keep the temperature where you need it!
I have used a few of these and they just don’t keep it warm enough
Check out our latest instructional video!
More sizes need to be made available. At least up to 100 gallons.
I have the zoo med thermostat should I sandwich the probe between the heat mat and terrarium
No, Under Tank Heaters are designed to be placed on a flat glass surface on the outer side of the terrarium. Avoid placing anything that could obstruct and compromise the UTH's contact with the glass.
A temperature probe should be placed as close to the same location that your pet sits when utilizing the monitored heating element in order to get the most accurate readings.
Contact our Customer Service for more info:
1-888-496-6633
Hope that helps.
If I put this on the side of my tank for my aquatic turtle like where his basking spot is will it work still
Sorry, it isn't recommended for aquatic tanks.
I have them in 3 tanks and they are the best .warm side and cold side.gives the animals choices .
I ordered the ten to twenty gallon heat mat and was a bit shocked in how small it was it was VERY pricey but didn't even fit a twenty gallon heat mat it was smaller then my hide for my gecko very disappointed
I have my sand boa set up with a (thermostat regulated, cause that’s vital) heating mat with reptile carpet and aspen shavings. Problem is: she does her business under the substrate, and it’s difficult to clean up when it soaks into the carpet. Given the thermostat, wouldn’t it be fine to pull the carpet out and make sure the thermostat probe doesn’t get jostled out of position so the heat doesn’t climb? I think it’d save time cleaning if I could wipe/scrape her refuse off the glass and sterilize the area instead of dealing with something I can’t really clean that well.
So to my understanding, you're asking if you could remove the carpet, but keep the aspen bedding over the under tank heater?
As long as the thermostat probe is still regulating properly, and the aspen is still providing a buffer between the heater and your pet, that should work fine in theory.
However, I would be extra diligent in monitoring your pet and their heating during this transition to make sure everything is functioning properly and your pet is safe.
Hope that helps.
How do you know if it's working
Would it be safe to put it under the tank on a dresser? I have a dresser and I think it's wood but since it comes with the things you lift the tank up will that help or is it just not worth the risk of overheating? Right now I am stuck with a basking light for my gecko (and I know those aren't good, this is temporary until I get the money for a heating pad which will be after this weekend) but I am wondering if lifting the tank up will prevent the mat from overheating too much.. I plan to get the smallest one once I get the money for it.
Please answer, I have been really stressed out about what's good for my leopard gecko. The temperatures are fine in his tank right now about 90° for him on his warm side.
He seems to be doing fine with his health behavior, and he's still active at night.. I just want to make sure he has belly heat.
Hi there! As with any heating device, proper air circulation is key. The included tank feet will help, but if you feel at all concerned about the surface your tank is sitting on, simply for the peace of mind I would suggest finding another way to rise it up a bit more to provide better airflow underneath. Hope that helps. Please feel free to contact our Customer Service if you have any more questions: zoomed@zoomed.com
Take care. :)
Im late but i use folded spare cardboard to lift my tank up!
Can the heat pad be easily removed? I clean my terrarium every weekend and I'm worried about it getting wet from the moisture.
ReptiTemp UTHs are not designed to be removed. Removing it deteriorates the adhesive, and also risks damaging the working parts inside. See the instructions for more details:
links.zoomed.com/rh-4
My heater didn't even hear my terrarium? I plugged it in directly to the outlet with no thermostat (haven't had the chance to buy one yet) and it barely got warm...
+BjkWolf It may vary depending on how your tank is setup. I would suggest checking out our complete line of heating devices on our website and seeing what works best with your pet's habitat:
www.zoomed.com/
Contact our Customer Service for more details:
zoomed@zoomed.com
Same I regret buying it lol
hey, I have a banded knob tail gecko and I’m worried about using a heat mat. I have an exoterra terrarium, and the heat mat is needed as my geckos are nocturnal, but my terrarium is placed on a wooden table. Would it be alright to keep the terrarium on the wooden table, or would it burn? thanks
Hmm, I wouldn't risk it. Heat in general can discolor wood surfaces, I would recommend applying the Under Tank Heater to the glass sides of a tank when using with a wood stand. Hope that helps.
am I the only one having problems with heat mats? like, I put it on and set everything up right. Its plugged into a thermostat that’s set at 90 degrees Fahrenheit. and its been six hours, its barely moving from 75
Heat mats are meant to be used as secondary heat sources, and can only raise local temperatures by small increments (depending on their size and wattage).
Regardless of what you set your temperature gauge, every heating device has an output limit. If you require a higher temp, you'll either need more or stronger heating devices. Where your habitat is located can also affect interior temperatures.
I would suggest checking out our heating care guides and heating products on our website for more info:
zoomed.com/
Hope that helps.
And it says you should have a hide by the warm side so if it cant go directly where the heat mat is then where do i out it
Hides and humidity chambers should be placed as close to the heat side without directly sitting on top of the under tank heater.
It's difficult to say without seeing the enclosure firsthand. We generally recommend that fixtures be placed outside the habitat, but if that isn't a possibility, the Hoods include a Suspension Kit if you need to hang it in some other manner, just make sure it is secure and the appropriate distance from your pet. I should also note that UVB will naturally bleach wood over time, so be aware of that when setting up. Hope that helps.
But leopard geckos need a hide over heater right?
They can, but it's important to monitor the temps. If set up incorrectly, you may accidentally create an oven!
We recommend setting up a humidity chamber instead, like our Repti Shelter™ ( links.zoomed.com/rc-30 ).
Hope that helps. :)
I tried one. After about a week, it caused the bottom of the terrarium to crack all over, so the heater was the only thing holding the glass together. Switched to overhead ceramic heat after that.
Hmm, sounds like a stress crack from heat encapsulation. You may want to switch to a more conductive substrate, or make sure you're not stacking too much decor or other heat resistant materials over that area where the heater was. Using the included pads to elevate the tank a little bit can also help to provide proper air circulation underneath the tank.
So I'm getting a gecko soon and everything I've read or watched said to place the hides over the heat pad and I'm not really sure what to do now can someone help?
It ultimately depends on how the hide is set up, but it isn't recommended. I would suggest substrates like our Terrarium Moss and Eco Earth to help raise the humidity and raise the temperature of the hide that way instead. Hope that helps.
Is it best to place on the sides or underneath for a crested gecko
It ultimately depends on your unique setup and personal preference. As long as it is set up accordingly to the instructions, the placement should be fine.
30-40gal is not nearing my needs for a 40 gallon enclosure for my ball python
How hot does an unregulated 8 watt mat get.
Gonna have to do an experiment before attaching it to my aquarium for the humid hide.
Gecko loves hanging out under the Arcadia overhead heat source.
Heat mats should always be regulated by a thermostat. Although heat mats are also completely unnecessary. I’m assuming you’re using Arcadia’s deep heat projector? That’s the second best heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat would be the most natural and beneficial option. The levels of infrared A and B they produce more closely mimic the sun (DHPs produce barely any IRA, the most beneficial wavelength).
What is the point of removing the air bubbles?
More direct contact with the glass makes for better heat conduction, helps avoid heat encapsulation, and also makes it harder for the UTH to unstick from the habitat.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. ok, thank you zoo med.
How hot does it go? My leopard gecko can only go up to 93 degrees Fahrenheit and the heat mat goes higher. Please help!
If set up correctly, it should only raise local temperatures by a couple of degrees. For more info, please contact our Customer Service: zoomed@zoomed.com
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. I used it today and it got up to 119 degrees Fahrenheit! Please help this is way to hot! I am really worried!
Animal Lover.Libby get a thermostat that connects to it to control the temperature
Animal Lover.Libby Buy a thermostat in order to control the exact amount of heat you would like to receive from the heat mat. You can find them for less than $20 on Amazon search “Thermostats for heat pads” (I would recommend Jump Start it’s extremely useful)
how do you control the heat ? like what if it’s reading too high , what do you do ? just unplug it ?
You can buy a thermostat (should use a thermostat). You can find them on Amazon if you search "thermostat for under tank heater."
Definitely need a thermostat don’t even buy a UTH with out one you’ll just cook your reptile
Just to be extra extra sure, I can put the under tank heater underneath the tank with a stand that doesn't have a hole? By I mean it is a fully flat stand and it isn't specifically meant for a tank. I'm asking if it's fine to put the tank heater there as long as I put the rubber feet to help air circulation
It really comes down to the air circulation. If you're concerned, I would monitor the stand for a bit when first using. The included feet can help, but if you feel the heater isn't getting proper air flow, I would suggest finding a way to prop it up more. Hope that helps. Contact our Customer Service for more info:
zoomed@zoomed.com
It doesn't stick to the side of the tank, it fall off in like an hour
Please contact our Customer Service:
1-888-496-6633
Is there a way to control the temperature of the pad on its own or do I need a separate device all together to change the temperature of the heating pad?
The heat can not be adjusted, but with a controller or timer you can manage how often or how long the heater is on. See our website for more details:
zoomed.com
You need a thermostat. You plug the heat mat into the thermostat and it A’s a little prob you stick close to the heat mat. Then you set the needed temperature on the thermostat. If the heat mat gets to cold or hot the thermostat will fix it.
Do you know the temperature of the heating pad because I want to know if I can put it on the bottom on a wood shelf
It is designed strictly to be applied to flat, glass surfaces.
Omfg get a thermostat so it doesnt overheat. Research research research
Ok so can someone explain to me why I would put it on the side vs the bottom. I just want to understand so I make the right decision on where to put mine.
It just depends on where you want to focus the heat, and what work's best with your unique habitat.
Ultimately, you'll want to set it up according to the directions and what is safest for you and your pet.
As with any heating device, you'll want to make sure that there is ample air circulation to avoid heat encapsulation which could damage your tank or worse.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our Customer Service, and they should be able to answer any of your questions in more detail.
They can be reached at:
1-888-496-6633
Hope that helps. :)
So what if it's hot in the summer, do snakes still need the heating pad? Also can it work if the heating pad is on the wooden dressers?
Depends on how hot! You'll have to gauge their habitat and adjust accordingly to what you feel will work best for your pet and their habitat during summer hours.
The ReptiTherm UTH is designed solely for glass, and should not be placed on wood.
Do you mean on a tank that is on a wooden dresser? I would recommend ample room under the tank for proper air circulation to avoid any possible damage to the wood.
For more info, please contact our Customer Service. They can be reached at:
1-888-496-6633
or by email at:
zoomed@zoomed.com
Hope that helps.
Do you need to put the rubber feet on an enclosure if you are putting the enclosure on a metal wired surface?
The extra height doesn't hurt, but as long as there is ample space for air-circulation, it should be fine.
what happens if you do not want to stick the heat mat underneath the tank. if u just want to put it like that underneath the tank without sticking it
It isn't recommended, it is designed to be used in the way designated by the instructions. Contact our Customer Service for more info: zoomed@zoomed.com
What’s the best way to clean so it sticks to glass again? I had to peel it off to clean tank and now it won’t stick on again
The ReptiTherm UTHs are meant to be applied only once. Removing it naturally deteriorates the effectiveness of the adhesive which can then be harmful if it were to fall or slip off.
I can't recommend reusing it once it has been removed. Sorry about that.
So i have sand at the bottom of the tank and on top of the sand I have put paper towels (since I don’t want it ingesting the sand) is it safe to use a heating mat under it? Or would it still be dangerous?
If you're concerned about the substrate, I would suggest not having it in the habitat at all, and instead place the UTH vertically on the side of habitat as described in the instructions. Hope that helps.
Contact our Customer Service for more details:
zoomed@zoomed.com
I have a zoo med 10 gallon tank that came in a start-up kit, and I’m guessing since it’s made with space underneath I can use you guys heating pads as well? The tank doesn’t seem like glass and I don’t know what material it is so I wasn’t sure if it was safe
If it's one of our habitats, it should be glass. There is a raised underside for our Under Tank Heaters, but you'll still want to make sure there is ample room for proper air-circulation. Our UTHs include 4 rubber feet that you can be applied to help with this. Hope that helps. Take care. :)
I have just got one of these for my frog and it doesn't seem to heat the water in his tank at all and the guy at the store recommended this, what should I do?
+Shayjolt The ReptiTherm is not meant to be used with water in any way.
i have a question. i don’t have a stand or something to put my snakes enclosure on so it’s on the floor and my floors carpeted. is there anything i could pet under it so it doesn’t burn the carpet?
Hmm, not an optimal place. It should definitely be elevated, even if it's just the corners propped up with ample space beneath. Contact our Customer Service for more details and advice:
zoomed@zoomed.com
I have two questions I’m using your substrate and keeps on drying out I can’t keep the humidity in everytime I mist it drops and I have to keep on spraying it to keep it on 80 and second my hermit crab my big one went to molt since this past Tuesday when is he going come up
Hmm, if I'm understanding correctly, it sounds like you need something like our HygroTherm Humidity Controller and either the Repti Fogger or ReptiRain for help controlling humidity.
Having a water source or some Sphagnum Moss in your habitat can also be great ways to help keep humidity levels up. See our website for more info on these items: www.zoomed.com
As for the Hermit Crabs, every animal is different and it's hard to say what is causing their behaviors without firsthand experience. The best you can do is to try to make their environment as welcoming as possible. If their behavior becomes worrisome, see an exotic animal specialist near you as soon as possible.
Hope that helps some. Take care.
All the videos I've watched says to put the hide above the heating pad for a corn snake?
It's not recommended. With any heating device, if set up incorrectly may result in heat encapsulation that could harm your pet or their tank. Follow the included instructions and tips for the best and safest results.
I plan on using eco earth substrate for my leopard gecko, should i still put a carpet underneath the substrate?
That depends on the temperament of your pet, how thick of a substrate layer you are using, and your own personal preference.
If your pet has a tendency to burrow to the very bottom of their tank and rest on the heat pad, the additional Eco Carpet may help. However, if that is a regular behavior, I would suggest reevaluating the ambient temperature of the tank. It may not be meeting your pet's needs, so they are trying to get the additional warmth by getting as close to the heater as they can.

zoomed@zoomed.com
Hope that helps.
breakers use paper towels on their tank with the under tank heater they say it's fine but you say to avoid them ?????? who's right ???
We don't recommend it. With any heating device, always follow the instructions for the best, and safest, results.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. Is a thermostat absolutely needed ?
It is not necessary, but strongly recommended. You'll want to monitor your pet's habitat's temperatures as often as you can to make sure they are receiving the appropriate and healthy temps throughout their habitat. Hope that helps.
Is it okay to run it 24/7 as a primary heat source? And will it be affected by aspen bedding?
It depends on the habitat's temps and what is recommended for your pet. It should work fine with Aspen Bedding if it is set up correctly with appropriate air circulation. See our product page for more info:
links.zoomed.com/rh-4
+Zoo Med Laboratories Inc its for my corn snake. temps are from 75-85°
if i put it on the side of the glass terrarium and my hissing cockroaxhes climb on the glass would it burn them
There could be an issue if they are sitting on it for extended periods of time, but if that is the case you may need to adjust the overall temperature of the habitat so they aren't abusing the under tank heater. Otherwise it should be fine.
can you adjust the heat or do you have to buy something to go with it also is this recommended for leopard geckos
Depending on how your habitat is set up, the ReptiTherm UTH can work great with Leopard Geckos. The heat can not be adjusted by itself, but it can be controlled with the help of other products like the Zoo Med ReptiTemp Rheostat or 500R Remote Sensor Thermostat.
so for a juvenile bearded dragon, i have to have substrate like papel towels or journal, but you said not to use it with the heater, if i place it on the side can i use paper towels as substrate?
Kalandrill Yes, as long as the heater isn't sharing the same surface area as the substrate it should be fine. Read the included instructions for more details, or contact our Customer Service at: zoomed@zoomed.com
Hope that helps.
Hi! Can you use the thermostat controller from a seed starter with your mats to regulate the temp. ?
Yes, if set up properly, it should work fine.
Can I like put it next to plastic tubs so it warms the reptile, but is not on the plastic?
It works best and is safest when applied to a glass surface with appropriate air circulation. See the instructions for more info:
links.zoomed.com/rh-4
I got this for a 10lt tank and it's not heating up the inside from the bottom or the outside, can I put this inside the tank? I'm not using it for reptiles though, I'm using it for birds
Under Tank Heaters should only be applied to the outside of glass enclosures.
If you feel the heater is not working properly, please contact our Customer Service at:

Hello I purchased the Zoo Med 40 gallon under tank heater 2 days ago from Petsmart.. I followed the instructions and this video detailed upon installation.. I left it plugged in over night and when I woke up today the device wasn't producing any heat at all!!.. Leaving me to believe I purchased a defective product.. How do I go about this?
Hi there. Thank you for contacting us. You should be able to return it to the store and they can exchange it for a new one. You can also contact our Customer Service and explain to them what happened and they should be able to help. They can be reached at:

for an adult leopard gecko with reptile carpet as the substrate is it better to have it place on the bottom for belly heat or the side to provide warmth throughout the tank? I personally would like to have it on the side but would that be bad or is it neutral, if either way works well enough to keep the tank warm enough I'd choose the side unless not recommend.
It really depends on how you're using it. If installed correctly, both should work fine. When using with reptile carpet, make sure your pet isn't getting underneath the carpet and sitting directly on the glass over the UTH, or it may risk burning itself. Contact our Customer Service for more info: zoomed@zoomed.com
Thanks for the information this has been very helpful, I'll be sure to double check with my local herp speciality store as normal pet stores are very wild with they're misleadingly bad information
uhm does all come with the little plastic circle things? plz help me
The rubber feet? Yes, rubber feet are included in each version.
Make sure to read the included instructions for safe heater installation.
Why can't I use paper towels for substrate while using an U.T.H
Carlos Romanos Paper towels are not a viable option for Under Tank Heaters. The recommended alternative would be our Eco Carpet. Contact our Customer Service for more info: zoomed@zoomed.com
Is it better to mount on the bottom or side when using for hermit crabs? I also have mine setup on a tv stand. No feet were included 😣 but I could prop un the corners using felt chair feet pads.
Depends on how your habitat is set up and how thick your substrate layer is. You'll have to gauge yourself what works best for your pet and habitat.
It's definitely a good idea to have some kind of space underneath your tank to allow air circulation. Contacting our Customer Service and they should be able to help replace those missing rubber feet:
zoomed@zoomed.com
@@ZooMed Thanks. I decided to mount it on the side of my 40 gallon tank. It keeps the tank at about 70 degrees. Any suggestions to make it slightly warmer without adding a lamp on top? The tank is away from the air and its in a sunny location. My substrate is sand. I will add layers of coconut fiber for sure.
How do we wash the tank after we put the heat pad on?
The UTH is placed on the glass outside of the tank, so it shouldn't be an issue when cleaning the tank. Make sure to unplug all electrical devices before cleaning.
If you're cleaning the entirety of your tank (inside and out), you may have to remove the UTH and replace it with a new one afterwards. For more info, contact our Customer Service:
zoomed@zoomed.com
You don't jk idk
Can anyone provide the measurement in inches for the 4 different sizes?
Dimensions can be found on our product page here:
zoomed.com/reptitherm-under-tank-heater-u-t-h/
so do I unplug the heater when I go to bed or do I ever unplug the heater?
Depends on the temperatures you are getting during day and nighttime for your pet. Always monitor your pet's habitat's temps, and adjust accordingly.
R they reusable?
No, once they've been applied, they should not be removed or re-applied.
Yall have a plastic tank picture on the instructions but it says only use glass ... yes that's helpful
ReptiTherm Heaters are designed specifically for glass use only. Which instructions show a plastic tank?
Is the forest floor bedding considered light weight substrate or heavy substrate? Also we have the Exo Terra tank which has “feet” so to speak already built in with the frame, plus I was going to add the included rubber “feet” so do I still need to use an open top stand? How much room is needed between the table and the heat mat?
Forest Floor would be a light weight substrate as it isn't as dense as some other substrates and allows heat to pass more easily.
As long as there is some gap underneath to allow airflow and is relatively clean of debris or anything else that would obstruct airflow, it should be fine.
Hope that helps.
Heat mats are not a good heat source, heat lamps are much better for the animal. What species is this for?
I have a question it is summer what wattage bulb should I use for a 20 gallon long tank
It can vary, depends on what temperatures your pet's habitat is getting. You'll have to measure and gauge yourself on what works best for your pet and their unique enclosure. Hope that helps.
can you please help me I'm desperate to figure out if its okay that I set up my 30 to 40 gallon tank heater pad on the side of my terrarium instead of the bottom.
It really depends on how the habitat is set up; what temps is your tank getting, what/how much substrate you're using, what's your thermal gradient like, etc. You'll have to gauge yourself how it will work best in your habitat. Make sure to read the included instructions for the best, and safest results. Contact our Customer Service for more details:
zoomed@zoomed.com
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. Thank you
I have a different brand but it is very similar. I can't figure out how to set the correct temperature because the thermostat is a little turning button that doesn't have any numbers or arrows. If anyone could help me that would be great 👍
What species is this for? Overhead heating is much better than under tank heating.
you should look up a guide video for the specific thermostat if you haven’t already
Do u need a Temperature Controller for this even though the temperatur is find in my snakes tank?
Chris Mcdonald It would depend on how you were using it and whether or not your tank's temperatures are what is recommended for your pet.
But what if all I have is paper towel.
We don't recommend paper towel. In our experience, paper towel doesn't provide a consistent buffer between the glass and your pet which may result in burns if the habitat is set up incorrectly. When using a electrical device, always set up according to the instructions for the best and safest results. See our website for more info:
www.zoomed.com
Hope that helps.
how high of a temp does this mat go up to?
It can increase the temps of where it is placed in the tank between 2-10 degrees depending on the version of the UTH, where it is placed, habitat setup, etc. Contact our Customer Service for more info:
zoomed@zoomed.com
Do you use is one of the temperature controllers or do you use both?
Depends on the setup.
Do I need to put another substrate on top of my repticarpet?
Depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what you're comfortable with for your pet.
Just got one today, I have the heat mat, and and a heat lamp but the temperature is only around 78°. this is for a leopard gecko. any tips on how to get it warmer?
It's important to have a thermal gradient in your pet's habitat so they can manage their own body temperature, so don't be too concerned if you're not hitting the temps exactly throughout your pet's habitat. If you're getting an ambient temp around 73-78º you should be fine.
If you're looking to raise temperatures, it will depend on how your habitat is set up. I would maybe recommend including a humidity chamber in their habitat like our 3-in-1 Repti Shelter:
zoomed.com/repti-shelter-3-in-1-cave/
Hope that helps some. Good luck!
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. Thanks!!!!
HELP PLEASE!!
Building a WOOD Enclosure for my Leopard Geckos.
Size: 24”Depth, 48”Width & 17.25”Height
I see people put the Heat Mat inside on a corner and cover it with substrate (I’ll be using Eco Earth). Now is this a good brand to buy? Will it get hot enough? If so, what size should I get? If not, what other brands are better? I’ll be buying the Jump Start Controller Thermostat. Thank you!!!
The ReptiTherm UTH is not to be used with wood enclosures.
I would recommend one of our Rock Heaters (links.zoomed.com/rh-1) instead.
As with any heating device, always read the included instructions and set up appropriately for the best and safest results. Take care.
I have a question? Can I put a heat mat on a regular plastic tub for my ball python! I also might put heat tape on instead!
The ReptiTherm is designed for use on Glass terrariums, not plastic. See the included instructions for more details:

I'm late, but if you're using a plastic tub I highly recommend using heat tape. I can be a bit difficult to set up, but it's the best and probably only heat source for a plastic tub.
My heat lamp broke so now I'm putting this heat pad in and I'm just concerned about it overheating
As with any heating device, it is important to set it up correctly according to the included instructions, and that it has ample air circulation to avoid overheating.

Hope that helps. :)
Claire Szurk use a thermostat!! Super important
Would it be safe to put on top of a wooden cabinet?
It isn't recommended, but if set up correctly with ample air circulation underneath the tank, it shouldn't be a problem. Contact our Customer Service for more information and tips:

I want to gett my selve walking sticks (insekts) in a 14 Galon tank they need tempetures that are about 20 degrees. They'll be in a room that cann be around 10 degrees (now in winter) . Can i use this for heating ? (I'll use a aquarium with a save lid made out of fly screen). How warm is it going to be inside ?
Depends on the habitat. If set up according to the instructions, it should work great as a heat source. See our website for instructions: links.zoomed.com/rh-4
@@ZooMed okay, thank you very mutch for your fast answer ! 😀
Can you switch the heater to another tank or is it a one time use?
It's a one time use. Once applied, the UTH should not be removed. Removing it deteriorates the adhesive which may make it not suitable for future applications.
Are the mini variants of these safe for use on acrylic?
Yes, the mini size is safe for acrylic, but we recommend they are placed on the side of the tank, not underneath. Contact our Customer Service for more info:

Get in contact with our Customer Service: zoomed@zoomed.com .
Contact them and use your warranty if it hasn't been a year yet. That's what I just read in the instructions that I'm holding lol
How do I change the temperature of the mat and what do you mean no aquariums what's the difference between that and glass please answer
***** The heater can be used with our ReptiTherm Rheostat or HygroTherm to help regulate temperatures. The heater is not designed to be used with aquariums or aquatic elements.
oh so you meant no water i thought you meant no aquariums and was like what anyway thanks for answering
Where can you get the little underside legs for the tank?
Rubber Feet are included with the ReptiTherm UTH.
can you move heater & re apply somewhere else?
No, once applied it cannot be removed without risking damage to the adhesive and inner components. Choose wisely where you place the UTH.
Dose this turn on one plugged in I don’t see a switch to turn it on lmao!
Yes, once it is plugged in it is on. See our product page for full details and instructions:

Zoo med I have a leo gecko and I put its hot hide on top of the heat mat is that bad
It isn't recommended. Make sure to gauge the temps throughout your pet's habitat, and adjust for the best and safest results.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. thanks
is it okay to place it on the side for a leopard gecko?
Yes, if that works best for your pet and their habitat, it can be placed on the side of a flat glass surface. See the instructions on our website for more details. Link is in the description.
I just got one but I don’t know how to turn it on
Zoo Med UTHs turn on when plugged into an active electrical outlet.
I have a leopard gecko and was pretty sure I was going to place it under the tank but now that you mention it I was wondering, would I be able to put it on the side then put a basking rock by it for extra warmth?
Yes, that could potentially work. Just make sure your Under Tank Heater is applied according to the directions.
Awesome! Make sure to monitor the temps to make sure it's appropriate to your pet's habitat.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. Got it. Thanks again! Just set it up and checked the temp She LOVES it!! ❤️
What if a snake burrows under the substrate and is on the heat mat?
Shouldn't be a problem unless they are there for extended periods of time. If this is the case, the ambient temperature of their habitat may be too low for them to feel comfortable wandering further than the heat mat.
Always monitor your pet's habitat and adjust to create a healthy heat gradient for your pet. Hope that helps.
Is it okay if I use it with turtles? There is water in the tank
It is not to be used with aquariums. I would suggest checking out our NEW TurtleTherm™ for aquatic heating: links.zoomed.com/th-50
im getting a leopard gecko and i was wondering if i would be able to put a hide on top of the heat mat for their warm hide?
No, doing so would risk creating something like an oven which could harm your pet or your tank. If you want to raise the temps of your pet's hide, I would suggest raising the humidity by placing something like our terrarium moss or other moisture holding substrate in the hide. See our website for more info and tips: www.zoomed.com
Even if you have it under the tank and have paper towel substrate inside, with a hide on top? i just bought it for a gecko i am getting tomorrow!
Can i just double up on the paper towels?
A hide should not be placed over an Under Tank Heater. Also, we recommend not using paper towel as a substrate when used with a Under Tank Heater. Please follow the included instructions for the best and safest results.
why i cant put a hide on the warm and the cold side???
We recommend not placing a hide on top of an Under Tank Heater.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. yes i know but why :l
If set up incorrectly, you run the risk of heat encapsulation which can be harmful to your pet, as well as your tank.
Zoo Med Laboratories, Inc. just plz i have kept those geckos and had hides in the warm side and they actually liked that and the sand is dangarous for them it shoudnt be for reptiles actually well i wait for an answer
Again, hide placement over a heat source isn't recommended, but it's ultimately your decision on what's best for your pet and their habitat.
Sand, or ANY non-food item, is only dangerous to reptiles if they are poorly cared for or aren't receiving the appropriate diet.
If a pet isn't receiving the proper vitamins, nutrients, or nourishment they need, they may attempt to find it elsewhere in the non-food items in their habitat. Since substrate is usually the most accessible, it is typically wrongfully blamed for harm.
Hatchlings and younglings are the exception and should be treated differently until they get better at eating and recognizing their food. We recommend starting them on our Eco Carpet before upgrading them to a substrate.
Hope that helps.
Can I put the heating pad on a painted wood desk?
Our UTHs are designed to be used with glass surfaces with proper air circulation only. See the instructions for more info:
