I think Eldorado is actually underrated personally. It's more suited for a lighter session style IPA than a deeper, heavy body high alcohol IPA. Use as whirlpool or dry hop and you won't be disappointed.
Great vid per usual! I know I'm a few years late but I think your title slide for this video is incorrect...it says equinox smash...just thought I'd throw it out there. Keep doing what you guys are doing its wicked awesome! Mass represent!!
Ever since I was introduced to this variety of Hop I fell in love with it and I got oils and resin also a Apple Jolly Rancher candy taste if that makes sense also added a lemon peel zing quality on the end as a finish This Hop is a star and by the way is married with the delicious Mosaic Hop in a Stone beer that was recently released June 2018 Their Hop Worship Series ""IDOLATROUS IPA," Great examination of the soon to be classic El Dorado Hop Cheers guys from here in Atlanta GA.
These videos are great. One thing that would really help me is to suggest what hop you might use it to substitute and where (hot, flameout, whirlpool, dry) or that it reminds you of. Every new hop today has great descriptors that make you think it will be a good sub for citra or galaxy, but few are. Saying you pick up berry or lime is great, it's just hard to watch this or hear this and take the info into the next brew with an expectation of what it might add. Just my two cents. Even if you don't take the suggestion I'll keep watching and appreciate the time and value these videos add.
Just recently cracked opened a few bottles of my 2-row pale & El Dorado SMaSH. I got a little bit of the peach, no pear, and a pretty solid amount of what I perceived as jolly rancher. Almost a sweet and candy-like characteristic to the aroma.
Love these hop videos since I'm new to brewing I'm trying to find out as much as I can. I hear you guys talking a lot about citra hops. Do you have a video on its profile and where and when to use it?
Mike and John, I don't care about a clear beer or hazy beer (god love the NEIPA), but I can't help but notice the difference in your samplers with clarity. Is there anything different between the two or is it just top of the bottle vs bottom?
Correct, its top vs bottom of bottle... first pour then a slight slosh before the second pour. John bottles these one gallon beers in 12 oz bottles most of the time so pouring one bottle into two tasters tends to rouse some yeast. -Mike
Hey guys! First of all, thanks for all the videos/info/experiments you doing, pretty useful. Sorry if it's been asked or already said in another video, but what yeast you guys using for doing those SMASH experiments? US-05? Thank you and keep up the good work.
I made a 1 gallon batch of a cream ale and dry hopped with 1 ounce of El Dorado. Berry would be the number 1 thing I got out of it followed by stone fruit.
anything El Dorado is in that I've had has wet dirt, very earthy and even loaded diaper on occasion. I pass on anything with El Dor-rot-to. I love ginger, berries, other descriptors, but this hops varietal has yet to pan out for me.
Wow u guys are helping figure out this flavor that I THOUGHT I didn’t like at first until y’all started talking about the flavors. Fire
Thanks!- John

Great comment. Thanks. CHEERS! -Mike
Did a triple dry hopped malty ipa with a very large percentage of el dorado recently. Very big candy/sweet ginger flavour for sure.
Nice! Cheers! -Mike

I like the substitution idea and where. I think we've talked about application but not to the level that we can. Appreciate the feedback. - John

Jolly Rancher - I can imagine it. - John
You nailed it, i'm getting the same things out of the El Dorado on my end too
Great - love consensus!

John here - we don't have a Citra SMaSH video yet but I can get one of those going.
Thanks

Fantastic review!
DrinkThis I think you'll like it.

Most of the time yes, John uses good ole US05. Cheers! -Mike
