here here! I second that. Nice job. It's tough to put into words some of these qualities. I definitely want to try the LupoMax now after the video. Thanks guys. Cheers from Buffalo.
Awesome! I'm brewing with Citra and Mosaic LupoMax this coming weekend. Gonna do 5 gallons with Imperial A37 POG and 5 gallons with Imperial A07 Flagship and dry hop a bit differently and see what each yeast does with these hops.
I was told at my local brew shop that very same thing. Home brewers quite often get the leftover hops. in my case, I was purchasing a New Zealand Wakatu. And I was advised to choose a different hop by the shop owner for that reason..
Hey Russ - thanks for the comment. Yes, it's a reality that homebrewers get 'what's left' of the hop lots. It's good to know that others are discussing it. - John
Hah... “We’re home brewers, we’re supposed to spend money.”... truer words have never been said. Brewing beer is like owning a boat, or driving an old Jeep. Saving money is no longer in the equation.
Love your videos fellas...Just a general question on the 1 gallon batches that you brew. How long do you typically ferment and bottle condition (assuming you’re bottle carbing?) Just curious if smaller batch size makes for a quicker turnaround ... Thanks
Hi - I typically ferment for 10 days and then I have a 1.75 gallon keg so I force carbonate. It generally takes 3 days to get to the CO2 levels for serving. Hope that helps! - John
Just got a pound each of Mosaic and Citra Lupomax from Yakima today for my NEIPA I made on Sunday. Already dry hopped it on Tuesday for the first hop with my og pellet hops now gonna finish it off with the lupomax and see how that turns out, of course not going with the 70% lol going 100%.
I used to always rely on Citra to "hit that high note" when rounding out dank or stonefruity hops like Mosaic. In the last year or two, though, I've found Citra to be a bit more dank, with general fruitiness, rather than being specifically bright and citrus-y. I'm drinking my latest Citra IPA while watching this, and definitely getting more "dank" or "tropical" flavor than I remember in years past. Anyone else feel that way?
Agree. 2019 Citra was not that high note as in years past. My lastest Citra lot is more floral and resin. Still a great hop, though it would be nice if you got an honest report on where it's at year over year. 2019 Galaxy is in the same boat, still great but not what it used to be. I think Vic Secret is a better hop lately. I also found lately Chinook and Columbus (BC, Canada grown) is really astounding and no one's really buzzing about it in the beer world. As said in the video, we homebrewers get the picked over hops, so if we select the non-popular commercial hops then we stand a better chance at quality lots.
@@tylerb6081 2018 Galaxy knocked my socks off. My 2019 bag of Galaxy from Yakima Valley was spoiled or something. It was so awful that it ruined two beers - dumpers. Now I'm scared of the hop!
@@grahamhawes7089 Not a fan of Galaxy, might have been whatever Yakima had but I had the same experience but not dumpers. I found the Citra to be a lot different from year to year but always plays well as a 3rd player. My house IPA I always have on tap has Citra, Centennial and Cascade and the house NEIPA has CItra, Simcoe and Mosaic. I tried to add the Galaxy in both in place of the citra but it left me always going back to citra.
@@erichansen9427 how much pine do you get from Simcoe? I've tried using it a couple times but it makes everything taste like a West coast IPA. Maybe I should only use it to dry hop.
This comment string is fascinating - thanks for taking the time. At last year's HomebrewCon, I had discussions with others about the year over year differences in hop profiles. I think it would be difficult to provide a definitive answer of the difference between a 2020 harvest and a 2019 harvest since there are lots of variables in play, but it would be great to get updated descriptors based on the harvest year and maybe even the lot. I mean, that may be asking for too much but it would be great to have that information. - John
I feel like after this year of filming on that camper, you should figure out how to make it into a kegorator. Makes a good bar top too.
Should be a mandatory strap on like a propane tank 😁
Yeah, I will ask Mike to customize it. We're heading towards colder weather so we're going to have to shift our operations soon. - John
I will tell Mike of this blatant oversight. - John

I haven't had the chance to work with these yet so thanks for doing this. Always dig your SMaSH series beers.
Thanks - appreciate the comment. - John
Really been wanting to use Lupomax so this has me inspired!
Thanks - hope you like it. - John
Great video. A friend and I did a comparison of citra cryo, citra Lupomax, and citra terpene. Lupomax was preferred by both of us.
Hey Mitchell - that's really great info. Appreciate the comment. - John
As all ways guys great job can`t wait to get my hands on Lupomax
Thanks! - John

Hey, I'm trying to find the app you mentioned (Hopstar) but can't find it.
Do you have a link - sounds very interesting!
I found it on the Google store. May not be available for iOS? - John

Love to use the metric system when you have to figure out portions or scale up a recipe.
I agree. Metric makes some things quite easy especially when you want to talk in ratios and percent. Cheers! -Mike
Blue is my favorite number too. What's the metric conversion for 50 min? ;)
I think 50min metric is 3 horse power. Cheers! -Mike
Hi guys, what’s the difference between lupomax and cryo? Is it just the brand making them? Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
I think you nailed it. Different companies - different brand names. - John

What is the selling point on this lupamax stuff? How is it different than t-90 pellets or cryo pellets?
I believe the selling point is the same as Cryo and T-90. - John

How about compare Lupomax to cryohops?
Well, now. That would be a comparison. We may need to source some Cryo of the same variety we have of LUPOMAX and compare them. Maybe Mosaic... - John
