      For me it's orange. It's just not a color I am drawn to and other than using it with rainbow colors or with pink/red and yellow, I find it hard to be creative when picking out a color palette

    • @alexandriamonk2345
      @alexandriamonk2345 Рік тому +12

      @hawkpaul8735 metalics will always be thinner because of the type of pigment. Mixing your metalics a bit thicker than the rest of your paints will keep that color separation. If metalics are too thin, they make a shiny haze over the other colors. If you're going for that, great! If you'd rather more disinclined, make the silver a bit thicker! Like if all your paints have a 2 count trace, make the silver a 3 count trace!

      David, I am a true beginner. I have never done acrylic pouring before but once. I really don't know what I'm doing. What pour is a good one for a total beginner like me? I wanted to try a Dutch pour, but someone said it was a harder pour to try with the hairdryer. What are your thoughts? Thanks!

    I wish this video had been around when I first started. I watched loads of videos but nobody was as helpful as you are. A phrase I heard a lot was 'make your paint the consistency of warm honey'. As I'd never seen warm honey it meant nothing. Your mound upon a mound etc was much more logical to hear. Thanks for everything you've done David. I'm sure this video will help people new to the hobby.

    I’m a “traditional” artist. I’ve worked in oils and acrylics for years - ever since poor health sabotaged my IT career. Mostly landscapes with a foray relatively recently into abstract work. My daughter asked me a few weeks ago if I could do a large painting for her & her partner’s bedroom. She wants something either “ocean swirls” or “space/galaxy”. I’d watched pouring videos a few years ago and tried a few little pieces but didn’t really have the space to set something up to handle the mess. My husband told me a couple of weeks ago that I should have said something and promptly created a space for me in the utility room with a plastic lined wooden tray he built from scrap wood. I’ve been watching you and a few other artists and every few days trying a different technique on small 9x12 canvases. Thank you for explaining the reasons behind various things, like why you layer colours in specific ways etc. I”ll keep practicing and keep watching for more inspiration and knowledge.

    Wow!!! Loved this video! I am also a left brained person and finally someone understood this about a lot of us. Everything in a logical organized reasoned way. Thank you so much. After watching my first video with you, my head is not spinning with, “what if I do it wrong” and all those other insecurities.

      Glad it was helpful! Also, we can't be afraid of failure. Failure is by far the best teach and we should be embracing it. You will learn so much more if you start and fail. 8)

    Thank you for this. I need to rewatch and take notes.
    One of my big questions is what to use as a pouring medium. There are so many variations out there. I will start with paint, a jar of pouring medium and water. I have all of that and a TON of different paints.
    Tammy also has great videos but again, so many different recipes.
    I will have more questions as I go along. I have to get started!

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  9 місяців тому

      Start with glue or floetrol. Tons cheaper than other mediums and once you master that you can move to the more expensive ones or adding different mediums together.

    This is why I absolutely LOVE your videos. I'm a former developer and now I'm a systems requirements analyst. I 'feel' art through requirements. Requirements are art. Acrylic painting is such a perfect venue for the combo of art and analytics. All art is based on analytics and experience just like software dev. All artists know their medium. You are a true open source artist.

    Thanks a bunch. One of the reasons I'm interested in pours but haven't started is because every video leaves out important information, or uses terms pourers understand, but I don't. I've been trying to hit a lot of beginner videos so I can fill in some of those gaps. Then I found yours. Very helpful!

    what is good about him is that he is not so wasteful, he avoids that by measuring every liquid he uses. Thats wonderful. Now am going to pour painting..i never appreciate others lecturing bec they do a lot of waste..Painters need to protect their environment too..
