  • I use a Bosch Colt 1.25 HP trim router to cut the mortises for the side slats of the bookshelf. I cut the tenons using a dado stack on the table saw then fine tune them to fit the mortises using a Shopfox D3751 shoulder plane.

Moving right along. Your solution to your “Whoopsie” is exactly what I would have done. I would also had made that error! Scott

Yeah thanks, there are a lot of steps in this project. At this rate I hope I can get it done before winter.

Hals Wood Shop. Very nice detail work. The end result will be worth it! Quietly we watch a man showing his work and tools and yet we forget he is in a garage shop and has to put away those toys at the end of the day. Maybe that is a shot to revisit. I would kill for more space again as I am in my shed shop in Arizona, with my Shopsmith but no room. Great pointers in your work, keep it up. Thanks.

Thanks Hal. You touch on one of the key reasons I started the UA-cam channel, that is to show a true amature in a real hobbyist shop.

I've been told that true craftsmanship is not being able to do everything perfectly, but being able to skillfully fix your mistakes. Thanks for putting those in. Would you be able to show the repaired mortise in the next video?😁

Thanks Ron. The repair will be in an up coming video. But maybe not the next. I’m not quite decided on my order of operations. I may finish making all the parts, dry fit, then make all the repairs before stain and finish.

Tom, you did better than I did on my first plunge mortise. I went the wrong direction and almost lost control of the router!
My Freud dado is about 10 years old and still cuts like new… one of my favorite attachments!

Thanks Dave! It amazing how long good carbide lasts with a little care.

Hi Tom-watch all your stuff and really admire your detailed approach to everything but your if I may make a seriously nerd like North Bennet Street comment on your trim process-a chisel is a two handed tool even for itty bitty cuts- and I had a finger to prove it😊

Great tip, Bruce. I am always trying to learn something new about woodworking techniques and safety. Thanks for the comments!

Maybe the plunger guides need some wax like the SS?

That could be it Bill. It does slide well if I pull the lever far enough. I think it’s mostly me just learning how to use it.

I wonder - if a smidge of paste wax on the router posts would help- 🤓

That could work I will give it a shot.

It will help. My Dewalt is really smooth… but, my Porter Cable is clunky when plunging.

Hey man wouldn't this be easier with the over head router feature of the mark 7?

    • @woodshopnerdery
      @woodshopnerdery  Рік тому

Hey Cody, sure it could be done on the overhead router. For any through cut dados grooves and tenons I like dado stack over router bits. The dado stack has 30ish teeth compared to 2 edges on the router bit, just seems more natural for me.
