A roller coaster named *Roller Coaster.* Can we just appreciate that for a moment? A moniker so monumentally generic that it goes full circle and becomes wholly novel and unique.

One additional thing about Phoenix is that it sparked a restoration and relocation movement for other coasters. Some rides like Leap the Dips may not have been brought back to their glory if Phoenix was never moved.

    • @easynhonest

Those other great coasters that were moved after Phoenix are Comet from Crystal Beach to Great Escape, Skyliner from Roseland Park to Lakemont Park, Giant Coaster from Paragon Park to Six Flags Great America.

Loch Ness’ interlocking loops may be the most photogenic coaster element of all time. You should do a most photogenic coaster ranking or something of that nature 🤷🏻‍♂️

As far as I can tell, there’s no age/date requirement for ACE landmark status. A cool video would be to rank those most deserving. Probably needs to be at least 10, maybe 20 years old. Millennium Force definitely deserves it now and would be at the top of my list. Probably Dragster too, but I guess the redesign would make it ineligible. X2, Kumba, Nemesis, and SFNE Superman would be good considerations as well. Newer (less than 20 yrs) ones that should go on some day are NTG, El Toro, Maverick, I305, fury, and Kingda Ka.

Why did you guys make Montezooma's Revenge a landmark if the original one that opened at KD is still operating in Brazil? I mean, its the same continent and Montezooma's wasn't the first of its model... It still being open in America doesn't make it more relevant than the original one.

Just for it's overall impact on the coaster industry and also being possibly the most photographed and advertised coaster in the media back in the day before social media was a thing.

I've ridden 30 of the 44 operating ACE Landmark coasters: I have plans to add up to 7 of the remaining 14 this year. Here is how I rank those 30 I've ridden:
    1. Magnum XL-200- Cedar Point
    2. Phoenix- Knoebels
    3. Raven- Holiday World
    4. Screaming Eagle- Six Flags St. Louis
    5. Great American Scream Machine- Six Flags Over Goergia
    6. Giant Dipper- Santa Cruz
    7. Batman- Six Flags Great America
    8. MindBender- Six Flags Over Georgia- This used to be higher but the new trains have really impacted it.
    9. Jack Rabbit- Kennywood
    10. Beast- Kings Island
    11. Thunderbolt- Kennywood
    12. Roller Coaster- Lagoon
    13. Racer 75- Kings Dominion
    14. Blue Streak- Cedar Point
    15. CannonBall- Lake Winne
    16. Thunderbolt- Six Flags New England
    17. Racer- Kennywood
    18. Comet- Hershey Park
    19. Leap The Dips- Lakemont
    20. Lochness Monster- BG Williamsburg
    21. Racer- Kings Island
    22. Montezooma's Revenge- Knott's
    23. Whizzer= Six Flags Great America
    24. Legend- Arnold's Park
    25. Giant Dipper- Belmont Park
26 Revolution- Six flags Magic Mountain
    27. Matterhorn- Disneyland
    28. Corkscrew- Silverwood
    29. Runaway Mine Train- Six Flags Over Texas
    30. Wildcat- Lake Compounce- Only T3 is lower in my rankings
On the 7 I may ride this year, I expect that Wild One, Cyclone (Luna Park), and Swamp Fox should be Top 10 ACE Landmark rides. I don't expect much from the other 4.

Out of the five that I’ve ridden, I have to say Swamp Fox was the most wild one (ironically) with its buzzbars, but my personal favorite has to be (the actual) Wild One. My first wood coaster may be showing its age a little in recent times, but it still doesn’t let up until the very end.

I've actually ridden 5 of these:
    5. Great American Scream Machine - Ouch. Also, it seems temperamental on whether it actually gives airtime or not. I wish they'd remove the trim after the first drop...
    4. Riddler Mindbender - A fun ride with good positives. However, I wish I could've ridden it as Mind Bender, as it had longer trains and weaker trims, making the ride more intense.
    3. Cannon Ball - The classic at this glorified fair is actually the smoothest woodie I've ridden, with some good floater airtime as well.
    2. The Racer - Comparable to Cannon Ball, but faster and has the cool racing aspect. It's also very smooth. The one thing to complain about is you get auto-stapled by the ride, so the airtime isn't as good as it could be.
--. Batman the Ride - I've ridden the one at SFOG, which is the same layout, but that doesn't count, so I'm giving it an honorary position. Smooth, quick, whippy, and very forceful. I look forward to this ride every time I visit the park.
    1. The Beast - I didn't ride it before the retrack, but based on what I've heard, it wouldn't be first. But now the ride is pretty smooth, and it is still fast, out-of-control, out in the woods, and super long with a good finale. The night ride puts it higher for me, which makes it feel even faster, and the tunnels on the helix at the end are pitch black. Long live the Beast!
Maybe someday I'll ride Swamp Fox. I go to college in SC, but Myrtle Beach is still 4 hours away... The park is going to do some retracking on it though, which is cool.

Beast takes my top spot, but Magnum isn't too far behind. I would put Kennywood's Racer at # 7, maybe 6. Last year, it gave me several moments of insane ejector airtime. Riding it the day after Phoenix, I said that Racer's airtime was stronger, even though Phoenix is overall better. Racer was far better than the other 2 woodies at Kennywood on my day.

Loved this. BTW Coaster at Playland is NOT 68'; it's 75' tall with a 67' drop. It's also not operating as it opened; most significantly it used to have nothing but single position lap bars though Halloween 2020 but now it also features mandatory seatbelts you can't unlock even if you want, and also that staple you without giving. (At least you can unlock the seatbelts on a giga coaster or RMC hybrid at a Cedar Fair park, but sadly that's impossible for Coaster at Playland.) The Cyclone is my favourite coaster I've ridden on this list. I'm not a big Magnum fan boy but but Phoenix looks like it might be as good as the Cyclone.

@@BHV_7 I meant the opposite; 1: they can't be unlocked. and 2: I meant tightly locking. Once the train dispatches they cling tight and don't give, so they "lock" you down, unlike redundant seatbelts used on B&M hypers at Cedar Fair parks which give as much room as the clamshell strain allows. I also corrected my comment, at least I hoe it's easier to understand now.

One of the cool things about Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake park is that while a traditional "out and back" coaster, it didn't feel like it because you were going through the woods.

My beloved Greezed Lightning Houston, TX had a bittersweet memory of an ACE Landmark that it had 1 million launches since its 1978 opening. That launch was made however in 2005 the same year the park closed. It was moved + stored several time before the train went to Frontier City & the rest of the ride scrapped. I fortunately, snagged loop bolts from it + the Viper another Schwarzkopf looper. Love the Ace Hotel nod in Six Flags Over Texas Mine Train.

@idkwhattoputhere The Kings Island Racer should be in there, since it arguably started the modern *era* of coasters, though it was a fairly traditional PTC design. The industry had been in decline since the 1920s. There was a big rush to build coasters and coaster parks after the Racer and you can pretty much draw a straight line to the present.

Actually, Batman: The Ride started the modern coaster wars, not Magnum. Because of Batman, more than 50 additional inverted coasters came out in the next seven years.
