One term you forgot was Walk On. Whenever a ride has virtually no line we would call it a Walk On since you literally just “Walk on” to the loading platform and ride immediately.
This would be a great video to send to my GP friends so they know what the hell I'm talking about when I inevitably ramble about roller coasters to them. Major props to them for putting up with it.
Great video on coaster terms and slang, in fact, I have a slang term called W.O.S. which stands of Walk of Shame and it means - a rider who is either too short or too large to ride a ride and must exit the attention in shame/disappointment. and believe me, I've seen it happen at my home park and it's just sad that people have to take the W.O.S. off any ride
What I should’ve said in the video is that some terms are also covered in a video titled “Roller Coasters For Beginners” which is just an introduction to roller coasters. I briefly explained all of the forces in that video. Cloned coasters was even mentioned. That was a missed opportunity 🤦♂️
Really well done video! I've been in the coaster community for a while and this video actually made me discover some terms I previously didn't know. Thanks mate!
Things you didnt mention: TLC Defunct Walk-on Trims or trim brakes Stacking Estop Hang and bang Clamshell (lap bar) OTSLB (over the shoulder lap bar like on vekoma new gens and mack multi launches) also Here are some GP terms: shoulder/head bar (otsr) loops (when talking about cobra rolls, dive loops, rolls, corkscrews, etc) leg bar (lap bar) carriage (train) rollercoaster (when talking about flat rides) "loops with only a leg bar is not safe!" great vid as always!
Question: what do "whip" "snap(py)" and "zip" mean? Also, does Lrot/frod apply to the actual first/last train dispatched or your personal first/last ride of the day? Thanks so much for this video, I am very new to the scene with approx. 8 credits so far 😅. While I had figured out most of the terms from context already, I was surprised to hear that "forceful" only includes positives...
I’ve never heard of “zip” being used but whip and snap basically mean the same thing. When a coaster quickly changes banking (roll), that moment would be whippy. I consider lrot/frot to be personal first/last since it’s hard to get on the exact first or last train of the day. Someone else will probably correct me if I’m wrong. I’m glad this video helps!
Ah, so its THESE types of videos that cause guests to come up to me and ask me specifically not to staple them. I'll be sure to thank you for that if I ever see you. ;p All in all though, still an awesome video. Now if only we had videos of teaching people how to properly go on a ride and not try to purposefully leave 5-8 inches of space between them and the lap bar to try and get more air time..
You’re welcome for this 😉 I think most enthusiasts are fine with not having enough room as long as they’re not in pain because of how tight the restraint is on them. But I think the ride itself can also contribute to stapling and not just before you ride. Thanks for watching!
I wish this video was around when I first became an enthusiast :( Great video, and I really am glad that new enthusiasts have something to help them out 👍
I wish there were videos like this when I was starting out, too, but when I was starting out, there weren’t really cellphones, hardly anyone had them as they were just starting out, much less smart phones or ones that have cameras and record videos lol. There also was barely a thing called internet, it was just really slow dialup internet when it started. Also, the only recording devices were the old camcorders that consisted of a gigantic video recorder that you sat up on your shoulder and looked through a lens, that recorded on VHS tapes! All of that being said, thank you technology and I feel much older than I am!!😳😂
@@808CoasterLife also, very nice, well put together video!! Before my GP friends go to an amusement park with me, I will refer them to this video! Haha
I’m newer to this whole coaster enthusiast thing. So far we’ve been to SFGA and now at Hershey. Next year we’re doing Dorney Park and Cedar Point and planning to sell the house and travel with the kids all over to see what we can learn and teach the kids about the world or at least the US so this was very informative. Thanks!!
Thank you! An Immelmann is an inversion where you do a half loop going up but twist the other direction. On Valravn, Griffon, and Sheikra, an Immelman is the first inversion that follows the big first drop. A cobra roll is a double inversion which looks like a cobra from some angles. Boomerang roller coasters have cobra rolls as one of their signature elements.
Thank you! I like using lifter more than flojector but since this is for newer enthusiasts, I’d rather explain the traditional term. But I think more people should use lifter!

Home parks dont have to be the closest to me, and you can have multiple for example. im from orlando, and even tho it's not the closest seaworld and bsuhc gardens are my home parks
808CoasterLife Between this video and your “recognize the manufacturers” videos, I’d be very happy to come across these when I was just starting to become an enthusiast.
I used the fusion tab to make a text and transform node. I keyframed the size from 0 to full-sized. I saved that as a “macro” which is basically a template for fusion compositions. After putting the template where I want, I put an adjustment clip under the text template to adjust the blur depending on what’s going on. This may sound complicated but there’s a lot of UA-cam videos explaining how the fusion tab works. I’m glad to see more people using Resolve!!
A top hat is usually an element right after a launch, that most of the time is an airtime hill on which both the ascent and descent are vertical. There’s also a couple of variations of the top hat, such as the inverted top hat, which is a top hat that doubles as an inversion (any element that goes upside down)
I screenshoted a frame around that time stamp and used it for the thumbnail. I think it’s just the angle because I don’t know if I can do that exact pose again 😂
I’ve grown up with flojector as well. I think lifter makes people look at it as a different type of airtime instead of being just a combination of floater and ejector.
I love how professional this is
Thank you! Your footage helped a lot during the making of this video!
Omg 😱 airtime thrills
Its Airtime grills!
AIRTIME THRILLS!!
@kamraman6487 it's actually airtime mills
I'm a Dutch enthusiast that knows all of these terms, but this made me realize how incredibly complex and alien-like coaster talk sounds to the GP.
One term you forgot was Walk On. Whenever a ride has virtually no line we would call it a Walk On since you literally just “Walk on” to the loading platform and ride immediately.
Ah that is one term I forgot. Thanks for pointing that out!
Or a station wait to marathon your favorite coaster
This would be a great video to send to my GP friends so they know what the hell I'm talking about when I inevitably ramble about roller coasters to them. Major props to them for putting up with it.
Lmao that’s so relatable!
A slightly rare one is a “hand-me down”, which is a relocation
That's a good one. I've heard that word used for other contexts which is probably why I didn't include it in the video.
This video helped me understand coaster language since I got into coasters about a year ago! Thanks for helping :)
Glad I could help!
One term I use a lot that you forgot is E-stop, obviously short for emergency stop.
Thanks for letting me know!

That’s a good term to use, although it is unfortunate that some people have to take the W.O.S. Thank you though!
@@808CoasterLife you're welcome
You did a great job putting this together! Nice Work!!!
Thank you so much! Keep up what you’re doing as well 🤙
If you were to make a part 2, I would elaborate more on forces. Laterals and Positive Gs come to mind. Also, cloned coasters is one you forgot

A more obscure one is a "hang and bang", which is slang for a Vekoma SLC
That’s a good one! That’s also slang for older Vekoma suspended family coasters (example: Kiddy Hawk)
well all slc's that aren't the mewer ones or recently retracked (mayan, Great norreaster etc.)

"loops with only a leg bar is not safe!"

808CoasterLife More just intensity in general, not really a specific element it just looks lacking in other categories to me but it look insane
What does ROC mean. I know it has something to do with the removal of the coaster but what’s the abbreviation stand for?
Removal of coaster (I think)

What does a top hat mean?
A top hat is a steep and tall hill where trains usually go through at a slow speed. They’re typically the highest points on launch coasters.
A top hat is usually an element right after a launch, that most of the time is an airtime hill on which both the ascent and descent are vertical. There’s also a couple of variations of the top hat, such as the inverted top hat, which is a top hat that doubles as an inversion (any element that goes upside down)

@@808CoasterLife no the thumbnail

I like rattles. Come at me.
For me it depends on the ride but there are some rattles I enjoy!
808CoasterLife yeah like Hulk at IOA has a strong rattle but it adds to the intensity of it
yeah no one uses the acronyms
How dare you mention rollback and not include Xcelerator
I feel like I see more rollbacks from TTD and Kingda Ka than Xcelerator.
Someone totally lost something on one of those clips lol.
