    These stretches helped a lot for the past couple of weeks! It fixed my side kicks and hook kicks (especially spinning ones) height. Also getting really close to hitting that 180 split. Thanks, Alex!

    Great video and great stretches. I would recommend warming up prior to stretching and holding the stretches 20-30 seconds each. Remember that breathing is crucial to proper stretching. Thanks Alex. Keep it up! TKD4LIFE

    Your shoulder stretch with hands on knees is very similar to a Qi Gong technique. I've found that doing some basic Qi Gong, in addition to yoga greatly complements my Tae Kwon Do work out. This is a very helpful stretching routine. Thanks!

    For 1:23, my instructor says that you can get more of a stretch when you have the leg that's bent to have the foot flat with the ground for more of a stretch. We do the one you're doing in the video at the end of the class when we wind down. Of the 5 you've shown, I haven't done 2 of them (#2 and #5) so I will add those to my stretching routine. Thanks!

      also, contract anus/pelvic floor/pernium and try to keep upright as much as possible with heel flat on floor,.. difficult but this is where u get to go lower down, particularly if u a big bloke :>

    Love those stretches and thank you for producing this video. I've practiced the crouching ninja with the foot of my supporting leg pointed out 180 degrees, but it results in not getting a better stretch in my stretched out leg. I'm going to try your way for a while and kind of gauge the difference. Thanks Alex.

    What about beginners who cannot do those like myself. Are there alternatives for a person like me who is 50 and extremely overweight. Just recently started TKD and would like to get a jump start on some stretching that I can actually do for my age and size and total out of shape. Thanks in advance for answering, and also I really the info you are putting out there, please keep up the great work and info!

    Hi Alex, this is a great video!.. when we do that stance at 1:30 we consider having the heel up (right foot if you're stretching the left) as a mistake.. try with the heel down it's more effective. JMHO from my karate training.

    I have heard, last night, that the stretch at 1:28 which we do everyday is bad for your knees. Is there any truth to that?

  • @Artahe
    @Artahe 6 років тому

    I needed a video like that ! Thanks !
    Also, I need a little advice, and perhaps you can help me pinpoint the issue. I'm not very flexible, but logically, I *should* be able to do a roundhouse kick to at least chest level when not warmed up, and head when I am, given how relatively low I can go down when doing the splits. But once I try to do so and chamber my leg for the kick, I always feel pressure on the outside part of the thigh. I know it's not the bone or anything, so I suppsoe it has to do with the muscles possibly not being flexible enough. Is it normal that when going down on the splits, I don't feel that pressure as soon as I do when I try to kick?

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  6 років тому

      Doing kicks just uses different muscles. I can't do the splits but I can kick pretty high and fairly easy. Sounds like maybe just training the motion of the roundhouse more and getting used to working the outer thigh. There is one exercise I recommend that could help, I go over it at 1min 28secs of this video: ua-cam.com/video/wDzHavHsHkQ/v-deo.html
