I personally love the visualisation and find it really communicative. Ninfa is having an extreme heart ache, she's mad of love, desperation and jealousy. When the universal theme of love loss is transferred to a modern context, mental hospital suits the pain of the protagonist very well. It's also a clever decision from the dircetor how the choir of male narrators are made into psychiatric nurses, who at the same time control and calm her down.
Mi colpisce molto questa interpretazione del madrigale di Monteverdi. L'ambientazione agghiacciante in un reparto psichiatrico (ma anche il "semplice" scenario ospedaliero, credo, rende molto l'idea del mal d'amore che ti scava dentro, che ti risucchia vita e salute) è scioccante, intensamente emozionante
Una scenografia moderna e sconcertante per un celebre Madrigale di Claudio Monteverdi. Le pene d'amore sono davvero senza tempo...

Das Video ist ungewöhnlich, aber doch ein interessantes Experiment, das den Grundgedanken des Stück (Verzweiflung über die verlorene Liebe) sehr gut wiedergibt.. Musikalisch ist diese Aufnahme herausragend. Anna Prohaska singt differenziert, je nach Text und Musik. Viele der anderen Sängerinnen hier singen das Stück eher gleichförmig herunter. Absolut fantastisch die drei Männerstimmen, so gut habe ich das noch nie gehört; auch hier bei YT nicht. Die Begleitung durch Instrumente ist etwas dürftig, hier sollte man sich die Aufnahme mit Dorothee Mields und der Lautten Compagney anhören.

Loss of love, being abandoned or rejected are one of the worst feelings to human beings. The ache goes so deep into our beings it is almost physical, uncontrollable, like a million knives inside of one's heart. That way, this performance is by no means an exaggeration.
(It's very personal for me to listen this, as I was hospitalized some months ago because of a lost love, that drove me to self destruction, and in the mental instution I used to listen to this song in repeat.)

Wow. This was... powerful. Making a video out of a madrigal? I suppose it's been done before, but I can't remember that it's been done this well. Lamento della Ninfa on a psych ward? With the male trio being the orderlies? Wondering whether the protagonist imagined the whole thing?
I love this piece of music. I have to say, at least for me, this presented it in a whole new light. God bless humanity's creativity.
For what it's worth, I think Monteverdi would be pleased. No reason for me to opine that except as a lover of great music and ideas.

Great performance and video, Anna is one of most gifted young singers i know, hope she will choose her repertoir carefully and don't let anyone put her into patterns but stay just unique a real singing angel, or ninfa, whatever.
I like her a lot. She has a lot of presence.

oltraggio sono altro rispetto alla grazia e alla postura e alla voce di Anna Prohaska, soggetto ideale anche ad interpretare la clip.
una professionista di fama mondiale sicuramente la migliore in rapporto alla giovane età di tutti i tempi.
Anna non presta certo faccia e voce per un "pugno di dollari" .
il promo della Archiv Production per l'album Enchanted Forest è geniale e coinvolgente.
un contesto moderno e drammatico per raccontare antiche verità, archetipi che da sempre affondano le radici nell'animo umano. ovvero ci da la dimensione eterna dell'opera classica che mai potrà cadere nell'oblio perché come nessun altro genere riesce ad essere sempre attuale. e questa trasposizione di Choen lo dimostra. l'opera dei musicisti classici può essere decontestualizzata e non perde il suo valore e il suo fascino.

Not necessary, but why not? It seems pure delightful to me, and approaches feelings and actitudes from 350 years ago to nowadays. That’s what the art is all about, I think. Good for Deutsche Grammophon for this idea.

Hacer un video clip al stilo MTV de un madrigal, la idea es interesante, pero de todos modos no se ve la relacion entre el video y la historia, es forzar mucho las cosas, aunque de todos modos vale intentarlo de nuevo.

Very nice, soothing performance but the video imagery is so trite, just rubbish and demeans the grandeur and elegance of Claudio Monteverdi's work.
The only benefits of these images are to make us believe that the video art director is crazy, maybe the video story is just a projection of himself ?

Emma Haggett I agree. This lament is clearly about the deepest pain caused by love driving a woman, a nymph, to insanity. In our times, this would most certainly be treated as one more sad "psychiatric case".
***** You are correct that this isn't opera, per se. But it is much more preferable that people mistake this for opera rather than what's passing for opera in general (anyone who sings O Mio Babbino Caro on the X-Factor or Miss America Pageant). And when you consider that Monteverdi's L'Orfeo is widely considered the first opera, then it's not too far of a stretch.
