You made really good progress! People with anxiety have a propensity for negative self talk; luckily, you've developed a gratitude mindset to combat that somewhat. It's important to focus on what you got done rather than what you didn't get done. You may have a long way to go but look how far you've come!

This was such a good illustration of how to deal with photos and paperwork. Decluttering this type of stuff is never a straight line from A to B. It’s usually A to B to C to D because it involves sorting, consolidating, decision making, trashing and then repeating some or all of those steps again and again and maybe more before it gets done all the way. Good video. And the ribs were a thing of beauty!

Oh Karen how i feel for you ! I can honestly say that purging and dividing up the pictures for my kids was probably the darkest period of my decluttering journey oh so many years ago . However when i finally finished it was such a blessed relief . Press on as you can . I'm cheering for you .

Great job Karen, you are doing fantastically. Getting the stuff out of that box and the photos up off the floor and into macro categories is really going to help. That’s another great step forward. Good for you!
Robin the ribs looked great. I don’t eat much red meat and haven’t had ribs for ages, but you cooking them made me really want to eat some.

I have just bought a photo storage box - the type that has lots of individual small boxes inside ( about the size of cd cases) I am determined this year to sort out the photos into categories- weddings, birthdays, parties, holiday - then store in the boxes properly labelled . This will get rid of all of the albums and make it much neater. Also easy to find specific photos when looking for any xx

I have gone through My Mom's pictures and Grandmother's in last few weeks! Purged tons . If I did not know the people , I tossed! No one left to ask! I do scrapbook ! I have 3 Children and just finished up my youngest who is 43 in Nov. And gave tgem to him. He was thrilled! I did 3 albums about 40 to 45 back and front pages. Lots! But felt so good to complete it. Did not hit every big holiday but get several birthdays burth , 16th and think maybe 21st. Also did 3 albums of hus wedding several years ago. Gave them all 6. I have 9 Grabdchildren . I am trying to.hit major times we spend together. Puctures are overwhelming. I had doubles , triples now. And have boxes full of pictures for them. I will never complete them, but anyway. I love doing the layouts for them. Giid luck. I totally get it.

Huge congratulations on your 30 year homeschooling journey!!! ❤🎉 You finally get to graduate!! I used to say that I’ve been through each grade four times … once myself and one for every year with each child! I finally graduated six years ago after 20 years of homeschooling! Whew! I absolutely loved it but it was a huge investment of time, energy and devotion! Only homeschooling families truly understand that it is a way of life not just an educational experience. ❤ Time for a new season! Yay! 🎉

When I did my photos it took me a year! I worked about 30 min per day- sorted duplicates in piles etc- I did put them in albums but not fancy- dated and identified. Mailed lots of photos to cousins, nieces nephews etc
What a job!!! I don’t envy you but it feels so good that it is done and hopefully some day my boys will be happy that I did it!
Also- my one son said oh you should scan them! Yeah that didn’t happen🤣

I started scrapbooking 27 yrs ago when I got pregnant. God has blessed me with 1 . But it's still hard to find time to keep up. But I still do it. Its so hard to toss all the extra pictures, bc u have 2x3, 4x6, 8x10 etc of the same picture. Yikes. Love your real channel , love it's everyday life. Keep it up.

Some time back I decluttered our photos, took three or four passes. I divided them all into categories then "filed" them inside of photo boxes. They're tabbed by category as examples of I'm looking for friends photos I just file through till I get to friends tab! This works wonderful and is so worth all the work and time I put into it. I kept one of every set of duplicates, threw out ones that were overexposed or side shots etc. then gave some to family. I originally had four boxes now I have two boxes.

Great video Karen. The things that I find hard to declutter are anything to do with my cats (empty cardboard boxes that I don't want in the house but they love) or anything to do with my mum (who died in 2020). So, towels, bandaids that belonged to her (unused) and silly things like that. Her socks!! I don't want her socks but she loved warm fuzzy socks and she had a whole drawer full... I find that so hard. I also have an art/craft room and I have all kinds of things I use to make journals, and it is messy and I am not good at organising. I am someone who makes piles. And if I tidy, I move one pile onto another pile. If I put it in a drawer or somewhere it no longer exists to me, but I hate seeing clutter!! It feels very complicated.
I am glad that I went through my photos years ago and they are all in the top of the study wardrobe for when my niece and nephew want them. I am grateful I have the room to keep them here and they aren't in my way. (I have big built in wardrobes in each rooms, not walk in, but big enough.)
    Love seeing Robin cook.

Hellooo Karen, 😊 those ribs looked delicious😋
Photos,photos,photos.. never ending and I find them an emotional roller coaster. I’ve still got hundreds to go through but I can only handle a set time of around 30 minute chunks to tackle them, seeing my parents, long gone, each of my siblings, all gone is a reminder of the loss I still feel. Yeah so photo sort is short bursts as and when I can handle it.
You’re doing amazing Karen, thank you for sharing your journey with us.
As always much love and light.🥰🥰🥰

I am older than you but I had duplicates of photos. Only 2 children and they have their photos/ albums. Later I went through what was left. Most landscape photos with no people in them were tossed. Unflattering photos and non family photos mostly tossed. Kept one medium photo box roughly divided by decades. I dio still have MY childhood photos I need to pare down.
I guess today's kids will have a box of flash drives. Will they ever actually look at th em ?

This is the hardest type of declutter for me as well. I have tons of photos to organize and and want my kids to look at the photos and remember things and ask questions about who they are but my boys could care less. 😂
P.S. I also gave away the empty baby books and photo scrapbooks. I kept two very plain ones and maybe one day I will give those up too. I think I’m going to get some basic photo albums and keep the best prints. I would like to scan them since I have all the photos from our childhood as well and my sisters would probably want to have their books back. 😂

  • @gbk1t

I must admit that I don’t understand why people keep so many photos. When my children were 18 years old, I made them each an album of their childhood & gave it to them on their birthday. I have one album of all three of my children, one wedding album, one daughter’s wedding album & one album of older family. That’s it ! I haven’t lost any of my memories by decluttering , in fact we look at the albums a few times a year now, as opposed to never, when they were just overwhelming.

I feel for you going through all these photos! Years ago I went through several steps. Cute best and main one was taking all photos out of Huge albums which were seldom looked at, then making chronological stacks of the best for me. Then I threw away all the 'duh' ones. One son didn't want any so I made piles my other son and two daughter of photos of just them then the remainder that had two or more kids I speed then

I have so much admiration for moms who homeschool. I only have one son but there is no way I could have home schooled him.😣 I had a hard enough time helping him with his homework. He has ADHD and couldn’t sit still for a moment. He also was and still is very headstrong. There was no convincing him.😂

Paper clutter is my problem. I let mail build you. Then our prescriptions come in the mail. And, it has alot of paper with them. I just pile it on my table. The last time I went through them. I found our new insurance cards. I had just went to eye doctor a week before. I filed it under the wrong thing. Now I found the new ones. I got to take them by the doctors office. I think I learned a lesson. And, I am not going to let it get that bad again.
Enjoyed you video. You did a great job.

I want to share with you that I was a scrapbooking mom. I was a consultant and did all the parties and have tubs of scrapbooks in my crawl space. A few years ago I took pictures of all of the pages of the books, so that if something happened to them we would at least have those. Now I am taking pictures of individual pictures on the pages and cropping them to take away the cute shapes and stickers. So in my opinion you are so far ahead! You have original pictures to organize!! It was fun at the time to make the books and someday my kids can decide if they want to keep all of them, but I am loving the simplicity of having pictures on Google Photos. Hope this is encouraging! I love your basement declutter series!💕

I only had three kids and didn't do a good job with photo albums. I am kind of glad I didn't now because they take up a lot of space and you can get more pictures in photo boxes anyway. I don't think my kids will be obsessing over them anyway and each will get several photo boxes. They can make their decisions then.
