My name is Karen and I'm a wife of 30 years and a mom of 7 kids! I believe that as women we should join hands, walking together and helping each other. I'll share all I know, hoping to help other women find joy and beauty in their all important work at home. Let's share recipes, cleaning and organizing tips, decorating strategies, and mommy encouragement. I can't wait to meet you!

I love how you help your girls out. So sweet and loving. I know they appreciate it. Mama did so much for me.
U were talking about doing dishes, I have never had a dish washer even when growing up, we always filled the sink with water and did the dishes, if the water extremely dirty we would empty and refill to finish, we would do the glasses first, then crockery and utensils, then complete with everything else such as pans and baking dishes. Now that I am out on my own depending on how many dishes I might have I will squirt some dish soap on the dishes and just use the hot water and wash.
Thanks for sharing! 😃
washing dishes: no dishwasher. I have a huge (deep and wide, like the song) double basin sink which is important for me because many of my pots and pans are large. It is restaurant grade stainless and is part of a 10' stainless counter. The counter part actually has a lip around the front and sides which makes me willing to let little ones "help" with dishes. Or take a bath, one in each side. Not kidding. The sink configuration is definitely part of what makes me happy in life (and not miss a dishwasher). It's over 50 years old and we got it from our schoolhouse. Two of my married kids covet it. I set up/stack dishes before doing them. Basically, rinse as needed and scraps into the compost. I wouldn't like anything floating in the water either, haha. I have already soaked anything that needs soaking. I do some items right when I'm done with them, like cast iron and mixing bowls, if I'm still working around the kitchen. If I have just a few items I might use my largest bowl (like my vintage pyrex) to wash up in so that the concentration of dish soap is higher. I use hot water and a green scrubby and enough soap to do the job. No plastic dish pans for me; if I have a lot of dishes I use one side of the sink. I usually have a lot of dishes. The surprise twist is that when my husband retired he started doing the dishes. He makes far more dishes than I do and doesn't really get how to make the process easier. He's getting better at it. I pretty much think everyone in a household should have the dishwashing "skill", haha. I still do all of the weird dishes that I create and I put away all the dishes. I feel like I should redeem myself a bit :) Using enough soap for a task is a lovely luxury for me, but I just buy regular dish soap, nothing too extravagant. I actually use dish soap instead of most cleaners. My super power is stacking dishes so they dry quickly.
Your sink DOES sound dreamy! It sounds like your kids want to have that as an item in your will! 😉 But WHO would get it?🤔
I love my silicone muffins holders. I dont spray them.
I rinse the dishes if there are food scraps, and then fill the sink with water and wash. 😊
Thanks so much! I’ll stop spraying them! 😍
Wow, you are productive. It´s early Sunday for me, when I´m watching this. I got pretty good at planning my days - usually I can accomplish all I want to. When I need to be a good girl I make banana bread for my kids. I dislike it so much. I even hate the smell of it. (I like banans though.) And yes for paprika. Have a nice day! 🌷
I just wanted to let you know that the video voice over in some area is two voices at once. You’re amazing woman. Thank you!
I find it funny. She said she was filming like a crazy person - and that portion of the video sounds just like a crazy woman. 😂
Great video! I think leo is going to Start charging as a Management position😂
I think so too! 😂
I like your hair like that in the beginning of the video. Pretty.
Thank you! 😃
We didn’t have a dishwasher the first 13 years of our marriage - I so appreciate the last 30- but sometimes I just hand wash cause it’s therapeutic for me now to look out at my woods and soak my hands
That does sound peaceful! ❤️
When I was dishes by hand, I put the soap on the sponge and wash the pots and sharp knives that are in the sink. When I finish washing, I then rinse all of them and place them in the twin sink. In the morning, I put the dishes away. We run our dish washer about every third day because there are only two of us. Your floor looks clean on the video. How Jenn Does It was the first UA-cam person I watched when I got my first IPAD.
Thanks for sharing what you do! I watched Jen all the time too and also watched on an IPAD in the early days! 😃
I don't have a dishwasher in my teeny, tiny kitchen (rental). My boyfriend and I have to wash everything by hand. However, I have two basins for a sink. He was close one half and soak at the dishes on one side. But that isn't how I tend to do them. I soak the dishes individually. I use more water, but for my odd almost germophobic self, it is how I have made peace with the process when I am doing dishes.
Cute little Leo!
I need my emo support kitty as well! Costco New tires and grocery this morning. Have a large boneless pork roast in the freezer that will be BBQ soon. 1.29 a pound. Son is fixing dinner tonight.
What a great price and what a great son! 💖
I only keep it til the expiration date but it takes me ages to go through one. of those boaking poweders.
You use more soap AND more water. I only wash my coated pans, my sharp knives and my wooden cutting boards by hand. 😅 And I don´t rinse my dishes. My dishwasher does a very good job!
Baking powder is the one thing that I go by the date on it.
New baking powder is always a happy day!! 🙌
Amazing Karen you got such a lot done in this video. The muffins looked scrumptious. Plus, prepping the meat in advance gave you so many meal options. It is so nice how you helped your daughter by doing her bed sheets for her, such a kind thought.
Regards washing in the sink. For beakfast and dinner, I place all the dishes on the drainer, in specific piles. Then I wash the plates first, one by one with a clean sponge squirted with washing up liquid under running water from the tap and dry each plate as I go along with a clean tea towel and put them away. I wash all the cutlery in batches, spoons, then knives and finally forks. Then I rinse the sink out and wash each individual glass the same way and dry them with the tea towel. None of those items ever touch the sink itself.
Finally, I rinse the sink again and then put each stainless steal pot or pan individually into the sink and scrub it clean with my soft kitchen brush using power wash. I use pink stuff if there are any stubborn stains. They get dried with a thicker towelling towel and put away. Then I throughly scrub out the sink and throw the tea towels in the washing machine ready to wash with the others I’ve used at the end of the day. If either Roger or I have any lunch, then we wash up immediately after ourselves. My rule is that there are never piles of dishes left anywhere, either in the dining room or by the sink, as I hate seeing dirty plates. It’s easy for us though because there’s only the two of us. If I had a family, I would insist we all wash up our individual dishes after every meal before doing anything else, as that was the rule when I was growing up up.
I’ve been curious about the silicone muffin tins. My daughter loves to bake, I think I may try a set. Muffins looked delicious 😋
I really love them! 👍🏽
Great video! My dishwasher is dead so I use a dish pan. My water is very hot so I let it sit for a bit before doing the dishes. Then I use the dishwasher as a giant dish drying rack. 😂
What a nice drying rack! It’s hidden!! 😎
I don’t use a dishpan because the water does get dirty. When I lived in Spain there was no dishwasher. There was a cabinet above the sink that had a double dryer rack and the bottom of the cabinet was open. So as you wash the dishes and rinse them you place them in the cabinet and they air dry. They’re out of site and you don’t have to unload and put them away
Your makeup looks lovely today Karen. Yes I use a washing up bowl and drain dishes. I rinse the plates first so no debris in water. It’s quite common in UK to use a washing up bowl for hand washing. Muffins look tasty. Thank you for sharing Karen. Really enjoying your daily (ish) videos. 🤓🩷🇬🇧
Thanks so much and thanks for sharing what you do! 😃
@@ThisMainerMom I agree, that lip colour looks especially good on you! 💋
@jennyjenkins877 thank you!!
I like silicone but have found that after some use, the items I baked would have a flavor left on them....I'm not even sure how to describe it. Possibly a cheap silicone mold that I was using though and not something that would happen with all? Perhaps you'll be able to keep me posted. I have a Gotham Steel muffin pan that I like, but was thinking of getting Pampered Chef's ironically. haha
You were a busy bee!
😘
I wash in a plastic bowl 😁 we don’t put plastic in the dishwasher or sharp knives. So at night I wash those things by hand and then the pet food bowls. We rinse food off the dishes as we use them so no food in the bowl 😁
Thanks for sharing what you do! I e used a plastic bowl before too! 😃
Nice day being productive feels good
Yes I agree!! 😄
I freeze overly ripe bananas, whole in their skin. When i want to make a banana bread or smoothie i just run the frozen banana under hot water and i can peel off the skin and squeeze the pulp out easily. ❤
I have frozen that way too but never thought of using hot water! Thanks for sharing! 😃
You're welcome. If you don't use hot water you have to fight with the banana 😂@@ThisMainerMom
I would love to learn how to make broth and how you use it in a soup or something.
I know you explained it, but I am tired and a visual learner. Can you show it? Thanks. ❤
Yes, filmed it today!! 😄
I use a dish pan to wash my pots and pans and counter and stove but rest of the dishes go in dishwasher
Hello Karen! So I was wondering if you could take a few minutes one video to share what you have for cookbooks. I am on the lookout to buy a few to have on hand. I am in need of some inspiration for new meals! Thanks so much!!!
Sure! 😃
By any chance, do you have ADHD? For a while I thought I might have i cuz I was constantly getting sidetracked or distracted and not really getting anything done. But, I found out a few weeks ago that having a lot of stress or anxiety in your life can be the same as having ADHD? Finding that out just blow my mind. So, now I’m trying to work on staying with one task at a time until I finish it.
❤
Darling Woozy! It’s hard to have one’s food restricted. It really hurts.
Yes it’s so hard to restrict him and he loves to eat!!
I traded my microwave for more counter space. I don’t miss it.
I know many people gave up the microwave and haven’t looked back! 😄
❤😊
Hi Judene!! 🫶
I find that Costco has more stock of organic and gluten free choices than Sam's as well. Isn't it so therapeutic to stir with a wooden spoon - yup, I'm a weirdo.
Yes! I noticed the organics! I need to look into the gluten free!
Maybe filming every other day would work better? Miss seeing ya in the comments!
Yes, maybe…I’ve definitely thought about it!
I wish Karissa would let us see her one time.
Go over to my Instagram: karenatthismainermom . There are pictures of her there. There’s one if you really scroll down of her in a black prom dress with her sisters or there might be one of her with her date/friend in a gold form fitting prom dress!

Washing dishes… first I scrape excess stuff off dishes so that I don’t need to deal with floating oddiments. Second I almost always have a big pot or bowl that has to be washed and I use that as a stand in dish pan for washing.
Love it! Thanks for sharing!! 🌹
