Spearfishing at Talland Bay (Cornwall) Bass and my first Mackerel!!!

- Spearfishing at the regular BSA competition venue of Talland Bay, near Plymouth. Talland Bay holds a variety of species, whilst I had Bass and Mackerel, Bobby burns took a good Dover Sole and a Cuttlefish from the sandy areas.
Shooting a Mackeral whilst spearfishing was a particular goal of mine, Mackerel are small and fast moving, and regarded as a difficult species to spear in the UK due to this. However their meat is absolutely delicous, a rich oily flesh, fantastic on the BBQ or when fried
If you enjoy the content it really helps the channel out if you like & subscribe, let me know if there's anything you'd like to see a video about in the comments, am thinking of doing a video on how I doubled my breath hold times so if that would be helpful I'd love to hear from you! - Спорт
My “ex-girlfriend” was pretending to be pregnant, is an absolute classic line! Hope you've not suffered too much heartache/break, brother.
Great session, would have enjoyed seeing the cook up too!
Hopefully the lack of sea life was due to tides, as you said, because thinking we've over-fished, polluted, or, in some other way, destroyed so beautiful an ecosystem simply doesn't bare thinking about! We live up on the North Coast of Cornwall, near Portreath, Porthtowan area, and it really is a little slice of purest heaven! 🤍
Talland was a pretty tough mark, saw 4-8 other divers in the water both times I was there, and I think the fish definately prefer quieter places
Was not ideal circumstances on that trip for sure!
Superb, Jack! Makes me wish I was there with you. Carry on living the dream!
Ah bring back that summer viz!!
Great video dude, well done on the mackerel 😎💪
Thanks, would like to target a few different species this season, a Sole from N Wales is the main goal as I've seen a few small ones but haven't heard of anyone actually taking one!
Great video, shooting mackerel is always fun! I also wondered why every time I go to Pembrokeshire it feels like there is significantly more fish and crustaceans that in English channel. The visibility usually poorer but even in 1-2m vis I managed bass (they approach up close), this rarely happens in Devon/Cornwall. Could be a self-persuasion though :)
Had the same experience. In Cornish areas that get speared a lot the fish spook very easily, North Wales they just don’t spook
Hi jack!
Great job
Really good you slowed down the video to show what’s going wrong during the hunt
You earned new subscriber
I hope to see more videos from your trips
Glad you found it useful!
Woww nice
Nice stuff,a mate of mine shot a pipe fish once ! We ate it,and the bones were bright verdigris green.Hell of a shot,it was about twice as wide as his spear tip ! Tasted quite nice.
Have eated a few and they're good aren't they. Seen loads surging past when off the Llyn headlands but never actually pulled the trigger on a Garfish, they're so thin and fast moving it's hard to line a shot up
@@jackmetcalfe8542 aye,this was off The Llyn,cheers.
(and a member of the seahorse family)
@@archiexter4960 I had no idea ? Does that mean they mate for life too ?
Awesome video man
Thank you
Nice video what is your dive watch
Seac Partner. Cheap and fairly reliable, however after 2 years of use the buttons on the dive setting stopped working
Noice, down in my part of the world. Bring on April!! Your ex sounds like a classic psycho mate, well done for escaping 👍
Breath hold got a lot better once the stress was over haha
My ex hit me in the head with. Saucepan while I slept, you’ll look back on it and laugh …… one day
