- 2022 was a very interesting year spearfishing: from nearly drowning, to filling my stringer. I had some great sessions, and met some amazing people. Happy New Year everyone, and bring on 2023!
Not every session had videos, and not every fish was on camera: but this review gives a good overall impression of my 2022, rather than just being a highlight reel. Enjoy!

Great video mate- fun seeing everything you’ve done the past year! Been a pleasure getting to dive with you- thank you for memorable diving experiences in the UK!
Thanks, it has been good. Hopefully 2023 will be amazing. Let's make a plan as soon as the viz improves!
Great video mate, and good diving with you this year, I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and have have a happy new year! Hopefully we can get some dives in together in 2023 :)
Thanks. Yes, it was brilliant diving with you too. Have a great new year, and we will definitely sort some dives in 2023!
Great video. On the lobster hunt, where did you get your stick from? Looks telescopic with a small light on there?
Thanks! Amazon I beleive, just search "retractable fishing gaff", then blunten it a bit with a file. The torch is in my other hand.
@@gmurphy Thanks for that. I am getting back into spearfishing, my memory has been jolted. I remember buying one of these some years ago!
Hey mate class vid , is that a 55cm sniper your using ?
Thanks! It is indeed!
You managed to dive to the floor at the wind farm? I thought that was about 30m deep? What particular conditions do you recommend diving wind farm? I dived there 2022 at high tide but current made it undivable.
I don't dive to the floor, I stop part way. It can be a really dangerous place to dive, particularly if there is a lot of swell and current. The current gets magnified beside the towers, so you have to target the small sheltered areas infront/behind the towers.
You can use the Windy app to predict currents (add it in more layers, then it's under Waves) - the best time to go is when the current is under 1 kt.
And most importantly, make sure you have a dive buddy that you can really trust.
Out of curiosity from a complete newbie spearo: What's the thinking of a 2-band gun? I had my baby steps in spearing last year and got an 80cm single-band. So far it has treated me well, but I have never speared in the UK. Is the power/range of double bands needed in the UK? (or is that simply due to your very short gun?)
Hi! Where I mainly spearfish (Sussex) often has poor visibility, so short guns are very useful. The double band allows me to use the same gun to be effective at a greater range on the odd occasion that the visibility is better - without having to change gun. It certiantly isn't required here!
