- Опубліковано 28 кві 2024
- Join developer Dan Govier at Fleetyard Studios for a deep dive into Starship Simulator, an upcoming sci-fi space exploration sandbox game set 200 years from today. The video gives us a tour of the ship, crew roles, tasks, ship customization, exploration, and more. A Kickstarter campaign for Starship Simulator is available now, and a demo is available on Steam.
In Starship Simulator, do your part to keep the ship and its 200+ crew members well-maintained as you travel across a procedurally generated galaxy. Find habitable worlds, uncover compelling mysteries, and make first contact with aliens through careful dialogue choices.

Sit in the bar while others fix the ship and battle enemies, sounds like my kind of game 😂
Agreed
You better pray the bar doesnt take a direct hit.

The presentation in this video is such a breath of fresh air. No bombastic cinematic pieces, no overwhelming music, just a soothing voice and some explanation. Simply sublime.
It’s because bro can’t afford it yet
Nice to not see false ship marketing
No hype, just game. Bravo!
This is very strange though. There's no proof any of this technology exists. This could fail dramatically. So I'm surprised it's on IGN
@derickd6150 what does this comment even mean? You can Google the game and see it exists.
5:16 "we want players to really feel like they're living and working on a vessel in deep space"

deep space can cause you to get stir crazy xD. Ive played the demo (which had multiplayer) finding ways to break the demo with office chairs is one of the best parts lol

@@chaoslord_craylos6669 yes, its clearly all the developers could think of showing in the way of gameplay.
@chaoslord_craylos6669 space agencies encourage their astronauts to "goof around" sometimes, to relieve themselves from stress.
This is what won me over.
Please only release the game when its ready! Take all the time you need!

Would you say you're having (puts on shades). A Warp Core Breach?
How did *nobody* make this already?

If this had VR it would probably completely replace VRchat
“hey wanna chill on a starship?”
No
VR is planned
replace vrchat ?? thats never gonna happen because they are different games
I'm downloading the demo now. Looks like it was made with Unreal 5, so it may well work with the free UEVR injector.
I'd be surprised if there werent starship VRchat worlds already
Concept: Excellent
Ship: Great potential
Ship Immersion: Great potential
Customisation: Great Potential
Working systems V enjoyable game play : Unknown
Multiplayer crew: Great potential, but Unknown.
Procedurally generated Galaxy: Usually quantity over quality (Elite Dangerous at initial launch). Can end in repetitive grind.
Longevity of game play: Unknown even with continual addons.
Worth revisiting? Absolutely. Please put out other videos at various intervals.

This is why I'm excited for what increased AI can do to game development. Procedural generation should become much, much smarter, bigger and more creative. There's no reason why, eventually, whole cities with things to do couldn't be generated.
@@MrPatchtkennedy that's just more slop but with extra steps
Wow! The organic designs and rounded and curved everything is really nice. The level of attention to detail is great. A little mocap and optimization to run smooth and fast is gonna take this one to the next level. Definitely will be keeping an eye on this development.
These are amazing people, creating this game. Doing something only for the sake of beauty and passion, willingly sharing it with others. We need to appreciate their work, since the world needs more people like them.

If you don't get it yet, this is what it is:
Imagine a 2 story house where every drawer, cabinet, faucet, door, switch, closet, toilet, tv, stereo, etc is functional... then imagine that scaled up to the size of the USS Enterprise.
Well let’s wait and see if any of that comes to fruition….
And for some there's a chicken in the house, you really want to know where it came from and you can actually find out.

If you like this there is a demo on Steam. There is another project very similar to this on Steam called "the Orville - interactive experience" it also has a demo
In fact, the lead developer of this project was a co-project lead for The Orville - Interactive Experience. He also worked on Stage 9, which was a WIP Enterprise D recreation that was shut down by Paramount.

As someone who works in industrial, this is incredibly cool, educational, and impressive.
this seems ambitious, best of luck to y'all
I'm cautiously optimistic, but I've been burned too many times to get excited before there's a release date that's not TBD.
You sound like a fairy that should go outside and touch grass
Especially when it comes to big space games...
There is however a demo available on Steam, I’m downloading it now, but a demo out this early gives me a bit of hope.

I've been following these guys since Stage 9. I'm blown away by how far and ambitious this project has become. Mad respect
Lots of love to Dan, Claire, and this project!
Given our collective experience in such matters, it's understandable for the consensus to be one of pessimism because, after all, a pessimist is simply a wounded optimist.
What he promised here isn't even an otherworldy thing, Space Station 13 exists and it has an even higher level of interactivity than this.
Albeit, that game has 20 years worth of updates so yeah...
Love the concept and it's usually my favorite part of Sci-fi novels. Just exploring a ship.
Also west country accent! Finally
"its definitely real"

Great achievement production crew!
It's exellent to learn a lot!
Such as crew uniforms having standard webbed in glow sticks or tap on led's to shine up the way / corridors, such as at 2:15
you had me at the office chair cart racing......and everything else lol
NGL, they just gotta make the game enthusiastic and not dry, the visuals, besides the currently stiff animations, are jaw dropping.
Their nothing special
the graphics are pretty terrible truthfully 😐
Did we watch the same video? 🤣
They look okay but wouldn't call it jaw dropping
Yeah it’s feeling pretty dated and soulless. A cool idea that feels about 5 years too old! And dearly lacking in life and energy
Incredible ampunt of effort and quality put into this. Amazing!
This is literally exactly what I've been hoping to see developed, best of luck, checking out the Kickstarter now.
This is so close to what I'd thought about in wanting a space game. That said, I'm taking that wait and see approach on this one.
Okay, if you can deliver on all that this is going to be amazing.
Wouldn't be surprised if we never got there though; this project is incredibly ambitious.
Instant Kickstart pledge from me! Can't wait to see what they come up with
This has what I've been hoping Elite Dangerous to have for years. Starship Interactivity and the ability to explore your ship.
Sounds amazing but this will be a HUGE undertaking
For sure. Kind of makes me wish copyright evolved already into the modern age, so indie developers passionate in very specific things like this could have those systems come to fruition in bigger games from other studios.
Co-directing a game with his wife, that is a recipe for disaster.
This is giving no mans sky all over again and i'm positive history will repeat itself. This is an overpromise. People cant possibly fall for the same thing twice.
this project is the definition of overly ambitious
This sounds familiar.
Amazing view, tons of content, many roles and stuff to do as well as expending galaxy?
Yeah, maybe my grandchild will love this game at his 12zh birthday.
How old is your grandchild currently? Just trying to gauge the release date lol
Surprisingly, the game so far has functional FTL, some areas to explore, and multiple systems, and its just the demo
Are we talking about Star Citizen?
It's clearly mainly pivoting from the engineering functionality for now.
That's already enough to be fun with a couple friends, even with it dumbed down to a simple shoot enemies and complete objectives POV
"Depending on how well we're funded out intention", these words are the death knell of many ambitious projects that never actually acheive anything positive.
Amazing potential here, looking forwrd to seeing the finished project!
Gotta appreciate the Will Riker reference!
A most appreciated maneuver.
Very relatable and sympathetic presentation! Looking forward to hearing more from this, especially with VR support!
Love this concept. Something like this would be a great foundation for some kind of Aliens: Isolation or FTL: Faster Than Light mode. Better still with either a ship builder mode or at least a selection of ships.
Just tried the demo and this is EPIC. Can't wait to play the full game
Major Trek vibes. Looks incredible and to explore one of those ships... Totally worth it
Imagining a bunch of people roleplaying all the people doing their jobs and then some civilians just trying to sabotage the ship
This sounds really cool! I'll be checking this out for sure!
Trying out the demo version rn on steam, can't wait for the final release!

Man, he nailed it. There are always so many things in games you cant do anything with. Glad this will have deep gameplay and interactability!
Okay, but is there a Holodeck?
My thoughts as well
With mod support. Wink. Wink.
Imagine if you had to go in to VR for the holodeck

There's gonna be a thousand star trek mods for this game. calling it right now.
This game needs VR support, hostile and friendly aliens with various levels of technology, and a galaxy full of exploration. That would be a whole new life as a game
He did say at the end they would be doing vr so thats on of them at least.
Is there a way to have people join you on your ship like imagine you and a few friends doing VR vs some other people on a dif ship in a ship battle maybe as aliens. Also is there smaller ships you can fly around your large spaceship? Also can we have some Spotify tie in so you can play music off your Spotify?
All of this is planned and the base game will be free to play.
You should watch the video smitty! He said they plan on having all of that in the game.

Dam they got on IGN, that's amazing
I'm waiting for hydroponics and life supprt systems. Accelerating huge mass to star speeds requires huge energy, which cannot be collected as portable ionic or atomic store. Only option is a hyperspace jump.
id love to see little cosmetics you can hang around your ship like string lights, wood paneling or other decor for more interesting design
Cant wait for this! Looks amazing!
Their Kickstarter went crazy, got like almost 150K$...
So enough money for one single programmer’s wage?
Only $15,000,000 to go
practically nothing compared to star citizen's, wonder what these devs would do with all that money
@@AdamMclardyisn’t he just the creator not the whole team?
That looks so promising...for just another game to overpromise to build up a hype and underdeliver big time after relase. Can't wait for the reviews.
Why not just play it yourself? It will be free. There is a demo right now if you can't wait.
A suggestion: make the star catalog accessible from the helm console.
It doesn't make sense that the pilot has to interrupt the science officer just to get the coordinates for a known location. Unknown locations, of course, are a different story.
this feels like a way to get people use to working on a starship while "they" build real ones and have people ready with SOME type of experience.
I'm here for it
Backed instantly after heard this was getting VR Support !
We've been here before, with similar promises in well-funded Kickstarters. Hopefully there's enough passion and community support to see this through.

This has to be the single most ambitious project I've ever heard of. If the team can accomplish a quarter of what they intend to do, this will be one of the biggest sci-fi games to ever release. Really rooting for them.
One tip/suggestion vs Elite Dangerous. Its star jumping and fuel scooping were nice elements. But THE MOST annoying aspect was traveling within a system that sometimes took an hour from one end to the other. Could you make quick travel INSIDE a solar system work well? Maybe extremely fast or “jumping “ from star to planet/ station?
That "procedurally generated galaxy" makes me very nervous.
Take ALL my money. I've been waiting on something like this for years.
WOW totally intrigued, count me in !!!
The office chair race is what sold me! 🤣
Looks like an alternate version of Pulsar: The Lost Colony, a game that fits this criteria pretty well and has fairly heavy RPG elements (gaining levels, skill points, upgrading your ship's equipment, etc). It even has AI to fill in the spots where a real player would go.
