Wow! That is my favorite (budget) camera in the world, and I'm super happy that you're helping people get the best out of it! I use it on my dual-camera rig and love it for that because of its EXCELLENT I.B.I.S. (In-Body Image Stabilization) etc. Good job for figuring out a solution for the battery life, and I always have to use the dummy battery (with a power bank) as well. One thing that happened when I started using a dummy battery, was that the camera would SHUT DOWN when I would manually set white balance; What I discovered was that setting it to "silent mode" (i.e. no mechanical shutter) fixed this problem (my power cable only supplies about 7 volts, and the camera requires 8.4 to work properly). Thank you again for featuring this camera!!
Thanks for your comment! I haven't had any issues so far. The output on the smallrig np-f adapter is 7.4V, seems to be enough. I also use it quite often as my webcam and power it over USB directly from the PC for hours. Maybe the powerbank is a bit on the weak side?
I love my GX85,but it`s so hard to buy a rig,You know even smallrig didn`t sell it,I serch everywhere online, your solution is the best I have found, but in this video I can`t see every part of it ,can you make another video to introduce them?So I can have my own ,but now wo can only konws there`s a Base Plate,a Rail Clamp,a side handle ,two rail,a np-f,but what are the rest? And how you "built"them together? Please, can you make another video? Please~give you a big thumb!
Hi! Can you please explain how did you achieve power the camera by NPF adapter? Can you please share the name and the model of the cable? I'm trying to do that bu I cannot find the proper cable. I will be waiting for your answer, thanks a lot!
I think I combined a standard 12v cable with a usb dummy-battery, which needed a adapter piece to fit the standard 2,5mm 12v cable. I think those were all no name brands, so I don't think I can find the pieces after such a along time, sorry.
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker Didn't the 12v cable damage your camera? On the internet it says do not use more than 7.2v. Can you please make a video about powering Lumix with NPF battery?
The NP-F adapter plate has a 8.4v output. Sorry I got it wrong, it's a standard dc cable with a 2.5mm tip which I adapted to the narrower input which was 1.8mm if I remember correctly. Good suggestion, I will keep that in mind!
The Lumix GX80 is a very nice camera. I love to use this camera for make videos. But I think it is a shortcoming that the GX80 has no microphone connection.
Great setup. Yes, the unavailability of the cage for the GX85 is a bummer. Really unfortunate. I have mine on a pistol grip with a magnifying viewfinder attached to the LCD screen. It emulates the Super 8 look. I also have a cheap chest rig to replace the pistol grip for 4-point contact.
I have the dummy battery… but it is currently running to an AC plug (for the wall). What cable did you use for connecting the dummy battery (female) to the NP-F battery plate?
Hello! I don’t seem to find the connector from the npf adapter to the camera. Do you have a link for that? Did you use a dummy battery or just a cable to the camera?
Those are the products I used for this setup. Sorry, but I only use the german Amazon site: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B075KHHBW1/ www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01787RIJI/ www.amazon.de/gp/product/B08BF6LTSR/
I want to buy your top handle, side handle and plate but i don't understand how you fix the side handle to the base. Do you use two natorails ? can you send a link ?
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker really? I doubt it because it has the same price range as the g7, because the issue with the g7 is that when pressing the record button, the external monitor blackout
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker do you record externally on an external monitor or record internally on a gx85 while monitoring on an external monitor? sorry I was a bit shocked when I found out about this bro
I works both ways. There is no trigger over HDMI, so you have to press record on the Ninja. But it also works when you only record internally. So you can record both externally and internally if you want to and still have the image on both monitors. I haven't used the G7 (G70 where I live) in years, but the reason could be that the G7 is an older camera. They are in a similar price range, but the GX80 lacks certain videocentric features like mic input. So this could come down to more processing power in the GX80. But that's just my guess.

It would be great if you detailed brands and models + links for everything you're showing us here!
A lot of people selling these but I predict because of the brilliant sensor and minimal crop and excellent codecs these will make a comeback

Hi Joe. Great video. Could you make a video assembling this setup, showing each piece so we can view them separately?
I'm gonna build this set up thank you so much!
Glad that it was useful to you!

Is it possible to get a parts list for this setup? I'd love to be able to get mine pieced together soon!
I don't understand how you connected the handle to the base
what battery do u recommend to use?
Please tell me, what are you shooting for and which one can you advise?
Enjoy the solution with SmallRig.
Thanks, I will!

I hate the hdmi lag so much on the gx80/85...

Uuh, that's nice, love those setups! Too bad you can't use the touchscreen with a loupe on.
@@TheBudgetFilmmaker The loupe can open though. So it doubles as a shade for the LCD.

How do you use the camera’s touchscreen with the battery mounted like that? 🤔
I don't really use the touchscreen, but I am able to reach it if necessary. You can tilt it more to reach it more comfortably from above.

so whr can we get this setup my friend
I bought all parts on Amazon, they sell all those Smallrig parts usually. But Smallrig itself also has an onlinestore.

It's a dummy battery with a connector adapter to make it fit with the 2,5mm dc cable. I can look for the Amazon link later.

A little nato rail mounted onto a 15mm rod adapter. You could use a handle that mounts directly to a 15mm rod, but that was what I had lying around.

No blackout, you can use a monitor all the time.
