Yes Freezeeezy Peak & Gobi's Valley are interconnected, unlike any other level in the game- neither level can be completed without something from the other.
Marvel will reboot things for as long as it makes money- mind you, Iron Man's original origin was getting kidnapped by the *Vietcong* (Tales of Suspense #39). Marvel chronology is a big ball of wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff. As much as FP annoys you, you can be proud that you did so much of it without bopping the Sirs Slush.
