There's just something amusing about Emile slowly dying in the desert while Jon lists out cartoon shows
Emile dodged a bullet leaving Mad Monster Mansion there, because without the speed shoes he'd be missing the last few Notes by a hair. Gobi's Valley is kicking Emile's ass, but he's too busy shooting the breeze to get angry or crass.
He comes off like he's not focusing entirely.
I think Emile has a habit of not paying attention most of the time and because he is distracted by talking about different topics he doesn't seem to realize what is happening in the game.
That feels forced.
@@SuperCaptureDevice What feels forced?
@@xJC4Rx Same problem happnes with Tim too, heck I even have that problem sometimes.
The voice Emile does for Brentilda is AMAZING.
Chewing the scenery at its best!
This is where I feel the game truly takes the kid gloves off.
Oh definitely, Gobi’s Valley was utter pain for me…of course it was nothing compared to RBB
I feel it's Freezeezy Peak was where the kid gloves come off.
Screams in pyramid maze
@@coruscant100 Same.
While not 'super' violent as damage goes, Gobi's Valley is a lot less generous with giving you the means to heal back up all the time.
For those wondering about Planet Kate, that was a pilot shown off on Oh Yeah Cartoons. The name Fathead, refers to an entirely different pilot
Chugga’s Planet Kate story got me nostalgic for a personal experience with video games. Growing up, my parents had a SNES, and a few games: Mario World, DKC2, and two licensed games. A few years later the SNES died and the games were given away. In my college years I bought a Supaboy (handheld SNES) and I set out to buy my own copies of the games from my childhood. Mario and Donkey Kong were easy to find, as was one of the license games. However, the last one was a real head scratcher. I couldn’t remember the name, and everyone I asked had no idea what game I was talking about, even when I described it (Mickey and Minnie Mouse platformer, riding pogo stick horses, circus theme). A couple of years later I was chatting with a coworker and the subject of childhood games came up. I mentioned my plight and he asked me to describe the game to him. I did, and he immediately knew what I was talking about and told me the title. Just a couple of days later I found it at a local used game store
What was the title of the game
@@danielmota3187 “The Great Circus Mystery Starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse”
I had that Mickey and Minnie game too! So good ❤
@@gingerkays7362 Isn't that the one with the funhouse that Jontron and Continue? played drunk?
@@Pikachu2Ash I’ve never watched Jontron, so I have no idea
I feel like I've stepped into a twilight zone where chugga knows a piece of non-gaming media that the other two don't.
"What you did was good, Chugga, real good." XD
I like the way that this game deals with its progression. The way Jon was saying that, you can talk to your friends and say "oh, I did this level first", or "oh, I found it easier to do this level before that level", in a way reminds me of a classic Mega Man game.
Emile doing the whole “oh what’s that over there” is really funny to watch when you’re waiting for certain beats to hit
I'm still waiting for him to use Cheato's cheats
@@Grane1234 yeah about that
God, I love Tim's laugh during these Gruntilda's secrets lol
I figured Chugga would have had a stronger reaction to the hand enemies considering his relationship with wallmasters and floormasters
I think he was too distracted by learning that an old song is not from Dead or Alive the game.

Holy shit. I was not expecting you to also be searching for that show. It's been stuck in my head for years.
I CAN'T BELIEVE of all people to help me find it it'd be Chugga.
Thank you, this has been plaguing me for years.
There is a game I played when I was 6 breifly that I have never been able to remember the name of, never been able to find online with a lot of research and part of me is thinking I am going crazy and I dreamed it up. Hopefully one day someone will reignite the name in my brain.

@@Nateyred I guess I will look into that but I doubt it will be of much help. But thank you.
@@TheZebbga no problem lol
14:45 "I actually wasn't paying attention to what he was saying because we were talking."
Emile... I love you, but I worry how far you would go through this game without Jon and Tim to guide you with how quickly your attention drifts.
I mean without Jon and Tim there he wouldn’t be talking with anyone so it cancels out I guess
We already know thanks to his story in the first episode. :P
I mean, he would at least know enough to get up to Treasure Trove Cove but then things would be confusing considering you can skip up to Rusty Bucket Bay.
To the desert from the snow, Gobi’s Valley’s where he must go. Though the dunes and sands may sear, Chugga will soon move faster here.
1:17 Oh right, this is the first bottomless pit of the game. I for some reason thought it was the Engine Room. This area would be so much easier with the Grip Grab from Tooie. It is kinda weird that it’s not worked into Banjo’s default moveset given how this took inspiration from SM64.
4:20 Bottles hasn’t said anything about a new move. That should be indication enough that you’re expected to come into this world with Banjo’s full moveset unlocked. MMM is also where I would say the kid’s gloves comes off. It’s not as brutal as the last two worlds, but they don’t hold your hand as much here, and it shows in the enemy types.
12:20 It’s been a while but that’s one of the few things I remember from that depiction of Jack and the Beanstalk other than the Giant being able to shape shift, the paper thin slice of bread, and Mickey’s gang kinda being a-holes. That last part could be me misremembering, but I also remember thinking that the Giant wasn’t that bad of a guy.
16:20 Casually talking about Jamie’s filmography while Emile dies because he doesn’t realize he could Talon Trot up the hill he slipped down on.
Also note that while Emile lost a life, his counter still reads nine. The game does keep track of lives past your ninth (technically tenth since zero counts); it just can’t display any more lives past nine.
Rubee and Histup, they’re quite the pair, though not as known as Bird and Bear. Getting distracted in the desert’s no good. Miss your step and become sand eel food!
"Move faster"... Isn't it funny how that power is found in the desert, which is full of cacti?
@@randocalzone8772 Move Faster Pokey
Could have mentioned the instant pit of death on an earlier time stamp.
@@yokai59loi36 I thought it was more fitting when Emile was talking about being in hell, because to me one form of hell is bottomless pits.
All I remember from that Mickey Mouse adaptation for it was Donald grabbing that ax and trying to butcher that cow because of hunger. Announcer had some charm though.
10:18 - 11:17 Everytime I think I couldn't be more befuddled about Emile stories like this, I get proven wrong.
I wonder how Chuggaa would play this game without any help whatsoever. Him skipping Clankers was something I did as a kid, but not because I missed it, I just couldn’t do swimming well and couldn’t help Clanker. Something else that I’m not sure Chugga’s would know by his lonesome is what notes/jiggies he could or couldn’t get in what world. It makes me think he might be more critical of the game’s overall structure if he had to go back through multiple worlds extra times. I’m interested in all three of TRG’s thoughts on the game overall when the LP’s done.
Probably not well considering Emile's story in the first episode lol.
I agree, that is actually a big weakness of the game as if you're unlucky in the order you do things you can replay worlds more then you need to. The note Jiggy can be the worst in the game and notes in general are frustrating.
It would feel like DK64 at times and not in a good way.
Yeah, considering you can skip up to Rusty Bucket Bay, it is possible you may not have a clean level playthrough. And since RBB is that hard, getting stuck there, then realizing you need all the moves would be enough to force a quit.
"I can't believe Nickelodeon didn't pick it up."
(Glances at Adventure Time) You'd be unsurprised.
Speaking of Nickelodeon, TRG really reminds me of the Penguins of Madagascar.
Who is who
I must know?
You think Disney would have picked up Planet Kate, considering everything Jamie Mitchell has done for their television animation department.

I love how I was still kinda right about my assumption that he'd skip Gobi's Valley.
I remember a really messed up fairy tale cartoon/anime I saw when I was 5. All I remember about the character designs is that they had relatively realistic anatomy like anime or the Disney princess movies and the girl was blonde.
So there's this girl 👩🏼💼 who falls in love with a guy. They get together, he reveals he's the crown prince🤴🏻 and they get married. However, the Queen👸🏻 gets jealous as she wanted him to get married to a girl she chose. So everything seemingly goes well and she 👩🏼💼 gets married, and the Queen says she'll be the mid wife. So the girl gives birth, and the Queen throws the baby out of the window and tells her that it was stillbirth. So the couple decide to try again, seemingly a month later she gives birth again, yet again the Queen throws the baby out of the window. Devastated the girl wants to divorce, oddly unaffected by all the deaths the Prince says they should try again. She gets pregnant, Queen throws baby out. Now the girl has had enough and says she'll drown herself in the moat. While at the bridge/door-thingy they hear child laughter among the frog croaking, so they run down to the water bank. There they find all the children, somehow all still babies, and they understand what has happened and hatch a plan. That evening the Prince talks with his mother "what would you do to a traitor who kills the heirs to the throne?" he says, the Queen thinking he means his wife answers "have them tied to wild horses, a horse to each limb, the horses are then released onto an open field". Then the curtains drop and she sees the girl somehow standing there with all the children in her arms. Scene shift, now they are King and Queen, sitting on a stand with their people around them. Then we are seeing the Queen 👸🏻 being tied to horses as she described. The rope holding the horses in place is cut, and she screams as it fades to black...
Yup...
1:54 A verruca plantar is a type of wart. Grunty's got a bad pun by her bedside.
Emile how could you miss "family toilet-TREE"?
I’m not surprised that Emile is dreading the approach to Rusty Bucket Bay, I can think of a few things he’ll hate about it...
Trust me Rusty Bucket Bay is easily the worst level in Banjo Kazooie.
@@icefire2104 Rusty Bucket Bay is despised by the entire BK fan base.

Ah, Gobi's Valley and Mad Monster Mansion. You'll wish the last two worlds were as forgiving in their difficulty as these two, Emile...
Wait until he gets to Rusty Bucket Bay.
@@coruscant100 He already knows about it and right now he's actually afraid of that level because he heard so many bad things about it.
I can see Gobi’s Valley giving Emile some trouble and it looks like it already is 🙃
12:45 Speaking of old kids shows that were hell to find again, I distinctly remember seeing a kids’ movie when I was 4 or 5. The only things I could remember about it is that it was live action, the characters were people in suits (like Teletubbies), and it was interactive. Specifically, the movie told you to stand up and do whatever when fish swam across the screen and sit down when turtles walked across the screen. I didn’t even know if the movie was real until a few months ago when I was reading the Worse Than it Sounds/Movies page on TV Tropes. I found a funny sounding title and clicked on the page… and that mystery movie that had been haunting me for years had a grossing average per theater of *47 DOLLARS.*
(The movie was “The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure”.)
Hey, Cinema Snob did an episode on that movie!
Ah Gobi's Valley, what a time. It took me ages to figure out how to get the jiggy you got in this episode. Something in my kid brain told me that I had to lower the ceiling by hitting the target twice. In my mind, this would crush Rubee and friends (and Rubee would shout in pain as it happened), but you would get the jiggy. Thankfully the solution was much simpler and in keeping with the lighthearted tone of the game. Kid me had a weird thought process.
Man hearing about the pedigree behind Planet Kate is almost as sad as learning that Brave was originally penned by the director of Prince of Egypt, until John Lasseter fired her.
Well this is the one level that is going to teach Emile that its no longer easy.
Today on TRG the guys are about to enter the most deadly level of all of Banjo Kazooie.... ANCIENT EGYPT!
(Insert the Star Wars Imperial March theme)
@@s.p.d.magentaranger1822 I knew someone would say that.
Yup, and it didn't take long for Emile to be sent to the Shadow Realm either.
WOOOOOOOOOOW your new note score for Mad Monster Mansion is now 5!

I like going into Gobi's Valley for the Turbo Trainers, and collecting one note. "Wooooooow. Your best note score is now 1! Yaaaay..." Makes me giggle every time.
It seems Emile is getting used to this game quickly
At least he acknowledged he was not paying attention to part of what was going on. Pretty sure he still missed what John tried telling him earlier
Hey, at least it wasn't *STREAKY BROWN* undies
2:20 Grunty: you know there were white when I bought them
The Aladdin TV series brings back memories. I used to watch that as a kid when it aired on the Disney Channel.
Oh my god, I thought that whole Planet Kate Show Chugga was talking about was a fever dream I had - because I remember seeing it too, like, stupidly early in the morning one day. Makes me really glad to know I didn't make it up.
Alright, welcome to Mad Mon-- Oh okay, wait I just read the title my bad. Welcome to Gobi's Valley! This is the world where the fun fact I wanted to talk about takes place, but I'm waiting just a tiny bit longer; basically until Emile gets the move from this world.
I think "streaky brown undies" is actually a possible answer choice!
Also 5...5...5...
Poop Count: 8! (I'm counting the pooping for Rubee as one poop, since it was the same puzzle) It finally went up!
It doesn’t help the band also has a song named Extreme Beach Volleyball.
I can't wait for Click Clock Wood. Chugga is gonna have fun with that one.
Cool tip, you can use Wondering to run through the sand in Gobi's Valley. It also works in Bubblegloop for the Swamp Water! It's super useful in a pinch.
He's a snake and he makes you go up... but do you think Histup is a play on "Pissed up", AKA extremely drunk in British slang?
Chuggaa's Grunty Voice sounds like G1 Starscream
Alright, guys, let's all eat Scout's dust together.
Fun and Fancy Free. That's the name of the movie where Mickey and the Beanstalk is from. I never thought I'd hear about that movie again!
I legit can't wait how Emile will somehow cheese Mad Monster Mansion, since that's my second least favorite level.
You know the funny thing is that DOA has had Aerosmith songs playing in them since 2 so that’s not exactly weird to assume they have a history of rock songs.
Speaking of old media you remember from long ago, I think I remember tuning into Toonami as a kid and the end of the Toonami block, at least at the time, was Inuyasha. This is important since I vaguely remember watching Inuyasha like 5-7 years ago, I believe I was 11 when I found it on Toonami again. Then I do it again with Code Lyoko again a few years later, just before I hit 8th grade, this time from some animation reviewer that I don't watch anymore in a list of his favorite opening themes.
Much more recently I struggled to find two songs I remember liking back in the day: So Close by Stolen Babies and Never Enough by Taking Dawn. Thankfully I knew that at least my mom knew what they were so I just asked her for help to find the songs. There was a third one, I believe it was Angels Forgive Me by Firewind, but that wasn't hard to find once I remembered the name of the band. Though the only reason I remembered Firewind was from trying to think of a wind related name for a Charizard in a rom hack of Pokemon Y since I was doing a mono flying run.
Yeah you cannot get the notes in that one area in Mad Monster Mansion because you need the speeding shoes from Gobi's Valley.
To be fair, Dead or Alive was basically a one hit wonder, though the singer Pete Burns was a fairly well known personality, rivalling Boy George in the "fabulous male 80s new wave singer" competition. Sadly, he died a few years ago.
Well at least he finally is going to get the last move he needs in the game.
Oooh, got a preview of Mad Monster Mansion, only to remember we didn't have the Speedy Shoes move. Onward to Gobi's Valley, where Emile is laughing at Kazooie's zingers already. This bodes well for jokes to come.
P.S. Hooray, a fellow lover of the "Mickey and the Beanstalk" short film, part of Fun and Fancy Free. I loved watching that package feature as a kid, still have fond memories of it. Willy the Giant is iconic.
I actually had that package movie as a kid on VHS at my grandparents' house, and it even had a little mini-documentary afterward about it.
@@JCBro-yg8vd Oh yes. Leonard Maltin and animators from "The Nine Old Men" were among people weighing in on the film's production and its effect on audiences when it came out shortly after World War II, and as a classic Disney film today.
“Wow, your best note score for this world is now 5”. I found this line to be so funny.😂
I remember Gobi's Valley was the first level I saw of the game when I watched a friend play this.
To be fair to Emile, Dead or Alive is a one hit wonder kind of band and one of those bands where you’ve definitely heard the song but might not know who sings it. The only other song from them most people would know is Brand New Lover
Oh my goodness, You Spin Me Right Round was even featured in a popular Netflix show set in the 80s here recently! Some of the things that Emile doesn't know about really surprise me.
It very likey for people born after a certain decade to not know a band so niche as Dead or Alive. I only learned about that song thanks to my brother paying it during my high school years in the summertime.
5:09 Yeah, the notes are the biggest issue with tackling the worlds out of order in the N64 version, good call Emile!
8:31 I'm pretty sure she heals you every time after telling all three facts, even more so since I think we've already heard these ones during this series.
14:45 Getting distracted in Gobi's Valley isn't the best since there are various characters that talk to you and give you hints in the process...
16:13 ... and it's easy to die here, especially in this particular area.
Chugga's story about Planet Kate makes me think of a cartoon series I saw on CBC Kids (then known as "Kids Canada") back around 2009-2010-ish that consisted of dialogue-less slapstick based 2D animated shorts that were about 3-4 minutes in length and starred a one-eyed human protagonist (I can't remember his name though). The artstyle from what I recall was very simplistic (having very little color and designs comparable to that of a crude pencil drawing), and a common running gag involved the main character's body falling apart accompanied with bowling pin sounds. I also recall the name of the show was a pun on "eye" (because every character in the show was a cyclops). I still have not found any search results, or even a Wikipedia article on this show, but if anyone does know what show I'm talking about, please let me know.
*Edit:* Never mind, I found it, it's called "Leon."
Jon: All I heard was "so happy".
Tim: That's all you need to hear.
Me: But that's your meme, Tim.
So Mad Monster Mansion terrified me as a kid. I never finished BK until several years afterwards.
Phew, always thought that was just me. Once I finally got through it I felt silly for being scared. It was the clip that put me off because the music in the church is just so chilling! The overworld music is much more fun.
I got lost in that level as a kid and my brother was really good at beating it.

Planet Kate was part of Oh Yeah! Cartoons. It was aired along side Fat Head. More effort was put into these two as it was the season finale.

Planet Kate, huh? Somehow that plot got revamped into the Jimmy Neutron spin-off Planet Sheen, where Sheen accidentally took off on a prototype rocket in Jimmy's to an unknown planet, where he would slowly end up becoming its ruler. That expanded from there, and while it's not popular among Nicktoons standards, but it is something you should backtrack about, Chugga.
Yeah I first heard "You Spin Me" for the first time around 2005, too.

It is funny that Chugga started talking about toilets since this game does have toilet humor and Chugga would have found it if he didn't get cold feet at MMM.
I've never seen a BK player like Emile, who really goes out of his way to get most of the feathers and eggs scattered around. From my experience watching various playthroughs, most people tend to just not bother unless they're completely out of whatever they need at that precise moment.
Nah I always try to stay relatively topped off. I won't grab EVERY basket like if I know I am full or over like, 75%. But if I know I need, I'm going to grab it when it's... right there
