Syndication or reruns are not the same all over the US. It is solely dependent on the station. That episode was never played for me on the West Coast and networks I watched it on as well as many other across the US. Others did and it depended on the decade too. The stations are the ultimate deciders of what and how much gets shown.
And of course the witch doctor seemingly swims away safely and probably ends up in Honolulu , while our friends can’t even repair a boat that stays afloat for a few hours
I actually do remember seeing that episode in syndication as a kid. I thought it seemed vaguely familiar as you described it, but it's actually mainly that last scene with Gilligan poking the witch doctor doll that I remember the best. That was probably the funniest part to me.
I used to watch Gilligan's Island every day after school. That was about 50 years ago. I remember this episode, including the final scene. Thanks for the old memories.
I remember that scene vividly when it was in re-runs throughout the 1970's, my dad used to laugh everytime he saw it. When his laugh ended with tee hee hee sheeit you knew he really thought it was funny.
I have seen this before years ago! It can be really awful when networks cut so much from old episodes that they no longer make sense! They've done this to Brady Bunch reruns for years!
I do remember watching this, including the ending, years and years ago! One thing I remember is Gilligan was searching for the right word about snapping the Professor out of his zombie state: "de-zombie, ex-zombie, un-zombie..."
hahaha.... I haven't seen Gilligan's Island in decades, but I still remember all the words to the finale of the Hamlet episode. "Neither a borrower nor a lender be. Do not forget, Stay out of debt. Think twice and take this good advice from me, mind thine own solvency. There's just one other thing you ought to do, To Thine Own Self Be True."
@@JillMorgan-b7y 👍….& one of the funniest scenes from that episode is when the Skipper was trying to fall asleep, Gilligan kept singing the tune “ Not to be not to be..that is the question that I ask of thee” and the Skipper told Gilligan to be quiet but then Gilligan kept muttering the song lower and lower under his breath UNTIL the Skipper hit him with his hat😂🤣🛥️🌴
One of my favorites too. I always liked the more silly and outlandish ones -- the Hamlet one, the voodoo one, the ones with dream sequences, the mad scientist with the rings, and the one where their personalities get switched.
I haven't seen Gilligan's Island for years, decades. I do remember this scene from my childhood. I doubt this was censored, but rather edited out for time.
Back in the 1970s when I first started watching Gilligan, the stations always aired them uncut because less commercials were shown per hour in the 1970s compared to today.
I remember watching this episode and I do remember seeing this last part of the episode. I thought it was really funny watching the witch doctor running and jumping in pain as he jumped into the lagoon. Served him right for causing all that havoc on the island LOL.
Yes I remember watching that episode in full on TV. Unfortunately the more I try to remember if it was the broadcast episode or a rerun. The reruns we had here in Ohio were on a small local independent station. Although I haven't seen the full episode air on TV in ages. Unfortunately that small local station has been out of business for years now. Great video. God bless and stay safe to you and your new family.
Growing up in the 70’s this scene was always aired at least where I lived. I have noticed that certain scenes are cut out for commercial breaks depending on where one lives. The same with Lucy.
I remember always seeing that scene in the reruns. What always got me as a kid, was the fact that the witch doctor swam to another island, yet the rest of them still couldn’t get off the island!😊
I am probably late to the game but CONGRATULATIONS YOUNG MAN!! And thanks so much for keeping us all so very connected with our childhoods! You look sooo very happy, so nice of you to share with us internet strangers - and I absolutely remember this episode as a kid... too funny, thanks for sharing, and thanks for not being AI!!!! 😁😁
I'm so glad I saw the syndicated reruns in the early 70s, when commercial breaks were much shorter. I saw this episode in it's entirety multiple times. Thanks for sharing it for others who have only seen reruns post-cable.
My brother and I saw that final scene on a rerun in the early to mid 1980s. We laughed really hard when the cannibal ran at fast-motion-film into the lagoon. Will never forget it. I did not know it was cut from later runs, probably to make room for more commercials.
Hey Rick, nice post, thanks! I'm old enought to have seen the whole '3 hour tour" as originally aired and always loved watching that scene. I've not seen the watered down version yet. Whadda shame that ads have become more of a priority over art.
It’s always a good time to learn about some things about Gilligan’s Island. Thank you for the video Rick, I hope you’re doing well. Have a great day and take care!
I remember seeing this before a long, long time ago!! Because I said exactly what happened at the beginning of your video!! Dang, I'm old! LOL Thanks for sharing this awesome stuff, I love it! God Bless.
I own the box set DVD of Gilligan's Island so yes I have seen this ending and its one of my favorites actually because the way he swims away fast always cracks me up. 🤣Its like hes trying to swim away from the pain but cant haha! 😂
Although it's been 30 years I recall this ending from the marathons that used to run during...memorial day I want to say. Was always fun to watch although only a few episodes are still lodged in my head. Thanks for bringing this one back from the cobwebs!
I remember seeing it when it originally aired, and in reruns after that. We only had a black and white TV, so when they started advertising during the opening credits "Gilligan's Island, now in color!" I asked my mom what that meant, because it was still in B/W on our TV. Well, I didn't know that TV's were either B/W or color TVs. Yes, much less commercial time back then, so all these old shows I love, when shown on TV today, are hacked up and cut short in order to get all the extra commercials in. It's a shame.
I saw every episode of Gilligan's Island including this one over and over in syndication on channel 11 KTVT Dallas/Ft Worth after school back in the 70's! We lived 70 miles north of Dallas in the country so sometimes our Yagi antenna just showed Gilligan and Skipper as Red and Blue blobs in the snowy mess of a picture ha ha!
I have my DVR set to record Gilligan's Island whenever it comes on and I just saw that episode 3 days ago and that scene was in it at the end. Every time I see that episode, that scene is in it at the end.
I remember the original ending. It was very funny. But I think today's showings are so trimmed down to accommodate more commercials that we lose so much. The Pickle story on Andy Griffith suffers from this. Sometimes they cut out the Aunt Bee is making marmalade now scene. MASH also suffers alot from this. I've been watch MASH for the better part of 50 years, and I'm still pleasantly surprised when I finally se some of these trimmed scenes. Keep up the good work Rick.
LOL I remember seeing this episode , when it Aired as a rerun back in the 70's. the end scene was funny!! I was like 12-13 and remember laughing so hard at the scene. if I remember right Gilligan also got a hold of the Skippers Voodoo doll and gave it a quick poke with a hat pin, and the skipper did his trade mark "OOOP!'
I have seen that ending to that epispode a few times, can't remember though the last time I've seen it. It's been a few years but I do remember that particular ending.
I remember this episode, and that last scene. Would have been broadcast on a "UHF" channel back in the 70's. What I never saw until I was older were the early Black and White episodes. They weren't included in the syndication then.
I clearly remember the scene you are talking about. Seems like he runs around kinda in fast-motion while holding his bottom and then hurriedly swims away.
I also watched this series after school in the middle 1970s and it was the entire 25 minute show with all scenes. Years ago I caught it again on perhaps Metv and several scenes where 'snipped' inlcuding the last scene.
It's only since they started adding more commecials to TV that classic TV episodes have been cut for time. I think they started doing that in the 90s. As a kid growing up and watching these re-runs in the 70s, the episodes were always shown fully intact.
I have a boxed set of what is supposed to be all the episodes of Gilligan's Island on DVD. I haven't watched them all yet, but I don't remember this one.
This one played regularly when I was a kid in the 70's. The only one that didn't was 'Up At Bat'; in fact I'd never seen it until I recently re-watched the series on Tubi. I can only assume our local affiliate considered it too scary for children at the time and just didn't show it.
Some shows ran faster in syndication versus the original network’s programming. This was the way it ran in the first two seasons in syndication. The voo doo scene was speeded up and if you sneezed you’d miss it.
I've seen this episode many time and they've always had that final scene on the reruns. At least when I used to watch it anyways. Now that you said Gilligans Island is on Tubi I will look for it. I usually watch Pluto tv.

I saw this scene. Perhaps I was 9 I could even have been eight. Gilligan's Island and the Brady Bunch every afternoon.

@db9863a doesn't stop everybody else
When this episode played as reruns on weekday afternoons in the 70's this scene was always present.
I've seen that scene 100 times in reruns!
I had no idea or intention to find out that certain Gilligan's Island episodes got censored. The Gilligan's Planet storyline was definitely different.
I remember this scene being shown in the after-school reruns back in the 70s.
50 years ago there was less commercial time as there is now, so I've seen this ep and this scene a bunch of times.
When I was a kid, this scene was always included, too.

This is why I still buy the blurays and DVDs. The episodes are uncut, always available and you get all the cool bonus material as well.
I do remember watching this, including the ending, years and years ago! One thing I remember is Gilligan was searching for the right word about snapping the Professor out of his zombie state: "de-zombie, ex-zombie, un-zombie..."
"DIS-ZOMBIE! . . . Dat zombie?"
My favorite Gillian's Island episode is the one when they put on a musical of Hamlet.

I remember watching this episode and I do remember seeing this last part of the episode. I thought it was really funny watching the witch doctor running and jumping in pain as he jumped into the lagoon. Served him right for causing all that havoc on the island LOL.

The Skipper shouldn't be skeptical. He always believed in voodoo and hoodoo and evil curses
I saw this years ago in syndicatin.

Saw it all the time growing up and even into the 80s. I even knew who played the witchdoctor, and they always showed the final scene.
I remember seeing that episode when I was a kid in the 70’s. Loved it!
