Even if I liked Ballads, I deffo would say his vocals have improved by a lot since those recordings. Especially on this track. You can understand most of the lyrics. And the production is a lot more solid for pop music. But theory, I think the odd syntax was intentional for the song personally.
There’s no way I would’ve gotten into Joji if he wasn’t filthy frank. Never listened to music like this but I actually like it now. Thank you franku

I wish someone would give him permission to play the full track so we can get his reaction in real time.
So the review starts off as always with the "hey buddy" song we all know an love. Then it transitions to an adidas jacket proving fantano's acknowledgement of his russian fanbase. He then proceeds to discuss his thoughts on the new joji single titled "Sanctuary." Of course without mentioning his upcoming tour during the summer. Regardless, I believe fantano's review was solid. A bit of flubs here and there that docked some points off despite being fixed in editing, he displays some clear and concise thoughts on his opinion on this new Joji single. Additionally, his pondering on whether Joji is "Lorde but for boys" did get a laugh which made the review at least a little more memorable. Overall, this is a very solid review done by the internet's busiest music nerd, Fantano, himself. Not exactly the most entertaining of reviews but definitely still providing some very strong thoughts on this single.
I'll give it a light to decent 6
Guys I have a serious question. How does he manage to review a song after just one hearing? My opinions always change after second or third listen.
It was really good, I can hear the Jai Paul/James Blake influence but in his own sound.
I hear the similarities between them as well. When I wore out James Blake's self titled album I transitioned pretty easily to Joji's In Tongues.

I really wish some of these newer artists would spend more time on their projects. I really think they have a lot of potential, but it’s hard to live up to that potential if you’re releasing a new project every couple months.

Strangely I feel like that lyric you said didnt sound right actually makes a lot of sense to me, "If you've been waiting for falling in love", if you consider falling in love an experience. The subject has been waiting for this experience and Joji's simply proclaiming that he wont make the subject wait.
Sanctuary really gave me Turbo Kid Vibes. I don’t know if anyone else feels this too but, something about Sanctuary and Turbo Kid gives me this dull, sad, feeling of what it would be like to live in the future. I’m certain it would be much more radical to experience the future realistically but, in a fantasy point of view the existential and dreamy dread kicks in. In a way I think the Film The Time Machine from 1960 also is where this feeling originates? At least for me?

Why you hating on Lorde BRAH?
It has been a while since you have reviewed and electronic/synthesized album, and I thought that it would be neat to see either PhaseOne’s “Transcendency” album, or Barely Alive’s “Odyssey” album. This introduces a more metal core/ synthwave approach to typical generic “Dubstep”.
Please don’t compare Joji to Lorde. Lorde has a team of ghostwriters, and producers. Joji does most, if not all of his music alone. He makes the music that he is happy with, and said music is evolving more rapidly than any other artist that I’ve personally heard. He is not simply “Lorde for boys” as you casually put it, while he is simplistic, and appellative, at the moment. His style is ever-changing. That IS his style. It’s what ever he wants to make at the time.

Idk. Joji, in my opinion, just continues to be too slow, too mundane, and blends too far into other artists like him. Always felt his beats are so skeletal that they lack the atmosphere I'd expect from the vibe/tone of the track. Maybe it's simply not my cup of tea, who knows. I respect those who enjoy him, though.
Same, I really liked his pink guy material, mostly for the beats and energy and am sad to see he hasn't done anything similar to that.

I like the song quite a bit. Usually not into this genre of music but I’ve liked a decent amount of stuff he’s put out. Though, I must say, he’ll never top “balls in my face”. A masterpiece for the ages that requires multiple listens to comprehend
