My favorite thing about art is its subjectivity. If you love the way a specific piece of media looks, sounds, or makes you feel, that artist has reached you. The only thing that art has to do is touch you in a way that makes you happy, and it doesn't have to conform to everyone's standards.
okay i get that the filthy frank book isnt like a literary masterpiece but it is actually a fun read especially if you grew up with him. awesome to see creators and musicians evolve into different lanes and be taken seriously in multiple creative outlets, cool to hear these guys history
1:50, dude when you said this it INSTANTLY made me think of robert downey jr. a teen star turned drug addict, everyone was like “welp that’s wraps for his acting career” and then he came back and absolutely killed his role as tony stark, which is funny because now he’s playing as doctor doom, donning the same mask MF DOOM did when he came back
i fucking love joji. seeing him mention donald glover as an inspiration got me into childish gambino music and now they are both two of my favourite artists. their versatility is something else.
also i feel like theres a lot more to be said about joji. from his soundcloud days producing for other people and chloe burbank, to working behind the scenes on the weeknds party monster mv in 2016, to the extravaganza and the nectar album lore. hell even the cancelled 2014 joji music album. i cant help it, i just find him fascinating.
best part with tyler is recently he finally got his own supreme collab after all these years of tyler wearing supreme and being a major part of supremes uprise in the early 2010s
Hearing George mention Donald will always be a moment of awe for me since they are my top 2 favorite artists. If they somehow collaboration, my life will be complete. We finally got a second collaboration between Tyler and Donald during his Coachella set this year since the crew crew episode on regular show. I just want an official Joji Gambino collab.
I miss Franku every day but damn am I so proud to see Joji succeed. I've been watching his channel since Dizata Music, and I get an indescribable joy when I see him perform live in my home city
i really appreciate how you have personal takes on every artist. I think there are too many video essayists that are clearly trendhopping, but it shines through how much you genuinely enjoy the music you're talking about. liked and subbed
Idk if you could even HAVE modern internet/underground rap without MF Doom. Dude inspired an entire generation of nerdy rap fans.... including everyone in this video!
Not sure if you'll ever see this, but I've always been creative and I intend to keep doing so as an Editor in the future. But I could never really put into words why. This video helped me come to a few realisations. Thank you.
I’m going to be a massive nerd and point out at 5:20 you played the GTA San Andreas theme song, which takes place in San Andreas (California). Rather than Soviet Connection, which is the theme song from GTAIV, the game that takes place in Liberty City (NYC).
People do not realize how AMAZING Gambino's song Heartbeat is. The one clip you showed from a reviewer said he gave a 2 to the music Gambino released early on. Admittedly, I have to listen to those songs. But Heartbeat? Bro. The synth work is literally LEGENDARY.
Don’t forget about the Top selling artist of ALL TIME. The Beatles. How they reinvented themselves multiple times in only a 8-10 year span is so iconic and paved the way for every single artist everywhere
18:21 Having listened to Chromakopia about 4 times at this point, I'm wondering if this was a response to the nay-sayers of Call Me If You Get Lost. Like he said, he made Flower Boy to prove that he could do pop records, and people said he played it safe. So he made Igor, and they said, "Oh, he can't rap, that's why he did this," which is what led to Call Me If You Get Lost. I'm wondering if people were saying, "Oh now he's bragging about his wealth and status like everyone else" and so he made something deeply introspective and personal.
Great Video Man! I just want to add something you missed to say and correct something. Tyler also collabed with Supreme and has another clothing brand called: Golf Wang. Funny thing is, DOOM inspired some of Gambinos and ESPECIALLY Tyler’s style.
Isn’t DOOM older than them 😭
