@@andrewallason4530 It's also a Backup Match. It's intentionally set up for Elmer Keith's law: "If I need more than 6 shots;* I'm probably already dead." Tactical/Practical courses have a lot of targets, and Reloads intended in the total time. This kind of thing was not viable as a Military sidearm in World War I, but plenty of people went into that conflict with Webleys, and the like. It was still just fine for personal defense. Nowadays, an NAA Mini with the same manual of arms is "Adequate." Might want a knife with that, but you get the idea: There's so many different kinds of guns, because there's so many different kinds of fights.

Not even speaking about Gun UA-cam, but UA-cam as a whole: It's really sad watching channels and personalities you like chasing after sponsorships and partnerships and losing their magic and becoming yet another marketing mouthpiece. I certainly don't blame them, its the nature of the beast and a person needs to make a living, but its why I admire channels like InRange that refuse to bow to the UA-cam's monetization racket (while still showcasing companies and products that are relevant and interesting). I also appreciate your ability to acknowledge the viewer base and power of UA-cam as a platform despite your disagreements and understanding you have to follow UA-cam's rules. It's not easy I'm sure and frustrating as hell, but things worth doing usually aren't easy.
Thanks for the eclectic and diverse firearms content that isn't just tactical/operator/AR porn mixed with political jingoism masquerading as patriotism, as if civil war is something to look forward to. But that's the point right? Build up the fear to sell your shit while the guys peddling it, laugh all the way to bank.
I love shooting but I'm embarrassed to acknowledge it because we associate shooting sports with crazy FUDD, militia, molon labe types (Always thought it was hilarious that the same dudes that unironically say Molon Labe and revere Spartans, also are raging homophobes) Channels like InRange are truly gems in the rough in that sense. Appreciate the work you do Karl, both on screen and behind the scenes!

Though I agree whole heartedly with your sentiments as I am weary of visions of high speed low drag wannabes with their ample waistlines jiggling beneath their overly accessorized plate carriers as they LARP through private kill houses or up the steps of the Capitol. I am equally weary of those so strident about the right to own firearms systematically suppressing the right to vote. As much as I agree with your description of In Range as an island of depth, independence and diversity in a monolithic UA-cam gun channel world I suggest that going forward you address me and those like me as Mr FUDD. I'm a minority who's the son of hard working, religious immigrants.
I take care of my elderly parents and I volunteer at my local church working with kids.
I tithe and donate a chunk of my wages to charitable causes, because it was instilled in my through church, though I mostly do it because I think its important to give and help whatever you can, whenever you can.
When I use to deliver flowers, I'd even go out of my way to chat with lonely elderly customers who were in retirement homes and hospitals (For real though people, if you gonna buy someone flowers, at least deliver them in person. Especially if they elderly and in hospice or an elderly home)
Point being, you're free to say whatever you want, but nothing gets me more riled up than someone who demands my respect. Especially over telling me to respect my elders as if that wasn't quite literally beaten into me as a child.
I respect your opinions (and quite honestly agree with you wholeheartedly) and I also acknowledge and thank you for your service in Vietnam (Lord knows when I watch Vietnam footage, I think about the fact that I am now a few years older than most of those kids holding M-16s)
I'm sorry if my comment about FUDDs triggered you, but in the context of my original comment, I was mostly referring to those good ole boys who call themselves hunters when all they mean is that they like to go in the woods to get shit faced before handling guns. The same exact good ole boys who don't wear safety vests and think its hilarious to break as many basic firearm safety rules at once. The same good ole boys who'd call me a chink in real life and then go off to praise "Rooftop Koreans" in the comments of gun videos.
I totally am able to recognize there's plenty of older shooters out there who just wanna enjoy their hunts without any of the "frat boy" mentality, but maybe you shouldn't identify as a FUDD? You're only inviting bad comparisons if the term you self identify with, is derived from a children's cartoon character who's known for being clumsy and a bit dopey.
I sincerely hope that clarifies my stance a bit more and I genuinely have no interest in starting internet comment fights, especially seeing as we're basically on the same page otherwise. Stay safe, stay happy yall!

The European produced LeMats had a ton of quality control issues, and they were expensive. Truth be told, even the most produced confederate revolvers only totaled about 3500 units by war’s end. Nothing really “caught on”. The confederacy was simply trying to get their hands on whatever weapons they could.

My "almost-local" reference store has all different aces to choose from. I think hose grips are easily found in gun stores in Spain, with many more (don't know about the rest of Europe, but since most of those revolvers are made in Italy...), probably because black powder replicas are one of the few handguns "easily" available and less strictly regulated, being Navy pattern revolvers one of the most popular.
I would say Navys are close second to Remington Army reproductions, since Santa Barbara made those in Spain until someone decided in 1993 you needed to have a permit for muzzleloaders, too.
Now they want to forbid lead bullets, so I don't know how (when?) it's going to end.

Love it! Thanks for the walk down memory lane. Back when I first signed on the Police Force in my home town we were issued the Model 19 Smith & Wesson with 4 inch barrel as a duty firearm. For reloading, we had a choice of loops or dump boxes, I took the loops at first because I liked the look but later moved to dump box, and when they came available to speed loaders. We qualified every 90 days and were issued 3 boxes of wad cutters for practice in between qualifications. We had a small outdoor pistol range just over the hill from the grave yard (no noise complaints from there!) and since the keys to the range were on the squad car's key ring we could access it for practice any time we wished, after some time I talked the boss into letting us each get a key so we could practice off duty and that went over very well. When I got into reloading, myself and another officer decided to try inverted hallow based wadcutters as the ultimate hollow point and loaded them up with bullseye powder to get the speed up a bit. Then my buddy observed that there was a LOT of room in that inverted hollow point and began dropping a couple grains of bullseye with a large pistol primer inserted over the charge, then sealing it with his wife's nail polish (man did he get his ass chewed by her when she found herself without nail polish when dressing for the annual policeman's ball!) thus getting us a sort of exploding round. We never got much performance out of the attempt and later gave up on the whole idea, but it was a fun experiment, and we could get a boom when shooting rocks or old tire rims from the town dump. Back then nobody gave a thought that we qualified with those light loaded .38 wadcutters but carried full magnum ammo for duty and in our belts. That all came later after a good look at police shootings, and the impact of training on the officers when the shit hit the fan, such as dead officers with empty cases in their pockets, a habit from the range of policing the brass after the round of shooting. Ah but those were the good old days, I guess.

I enjoy shooting old and new! Old Winchesters and Colt percussion revolvers are what I grew up shooting. The Old West era guns that Carl shows in real competition are extremely fun to watch!

It's not unusual to be loved by anyone

Maybe a fella was just in love with that frame. Man I freaking love a Navy Colt. There is just something about an open top Colt. They handle so well. I even like the hammer notch sights. That conversion Karl's shooting makes my heart palpate.

Gotta love those conversion revolvers. I have two (1851 & 1860) that I converted with the Kirst kits. It's nice to be able to switch between the cartridge cylinders and the percussion cylinders. When I go to the range, people become intrigued when they see me loading cartridges into what they see as a cap and ball revolver, and I get the....."what kinda gun is that?". THEN the explaining starts lol.

I think shooting single action percussion or brass cartridges makes you a better shooter because you aim every shot on a stable platform.
Double action is not as stable when pulling the trigger to both cock and fire the hammer. Also Colt style grips & frames seem to fit the hand more naturally, in MHO. Really enjoyed this video. I own percussion, conversion, and 1873 repro revolvers and love them.

We have my wifes' great x3 grandfathers Richards-Mason in .38LC Legend has it as a frugal immigrant from Germany, he bought it in ca 1880 as "it was still a colt" but less expensive than a SAA. At least thats what her dad, remembers his grandfather telling him

So the .36 Navy loose powder model was converted to a .38LC and if memory serves me right that was a ball(projectile) of the same diameter as the .36's .375/.376 or so and didn't have the caliber difference we see with the modern .38 Spl(.357/.358). And people have to compensate by getting expanding hollow base bullets. I like your take on the continued utility of the old single-action.

Love old fashion wheel guns. Grew around then. When he was younger Dad was a "Gunfighter" in a frontier town. He also competed in walking draw. For fun try placing a coin on the back of your gun hand. Draw from a old west holster fire one shot, hit the target. Holster the gun and catch the coin as it falls out the bottom. See it done many times.
