    Man I just bought a 93 D250 and I dont understand how people hack these things up so bad. I appreciate your approach and I agree if I am going to be daily using it for dump runs and work it doesnt have to be show work but what you did with that truck was solid and good work. If you ever take work from Texas I may have to bring mine over to you at some point for body work.

    in 2004 I had my actuator full of water from being stuck in a mud bog, didn’t drain, then during winter the next it was engaged it didn’t work as it was a block of ice. So after sitting in a warm garage for a while drained it out. 2024 twenty years larer, it still works.

    Beautiful truck when you started adding the trim back , I was like “f” that leave it plain but you did the pin stripes and it made that trim pop out excellent work

      Thanks. And I would have left the trim off but they have trim holes to mount it and I didn’t want to do the extra metal work to fill those holes

    I'd love to be able to do what you do with these trucks. Return them to the farm where they can continue to serve like they did new. Just needs your signature Black Patch TrailFX cow pusher and she's ready. Love the silver too that came out frickin sweet

    Beautiful truck man. I really want to add a clean 2nd gen to my collection, but I'd sure consider that 1st gen! Love how the interior has survived on that one.

    That 1st. gen looks like it can tackle anything...Any new owner is going to be assured it is a solid frame, dealt with by you as needed...In fact, it is probably stronger than factory...

    When I had to do some touch-up work on the roof of my 1990 1st Gen, I sanded-down all the rust, exposed the holes in the metal, then filled them in with JB Weld. Then primed and painted over that.

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  Місяць тому +1

      How did that turn out?

    • @erwin643
      @erwin643 Місяць тому

      @@VBELTandSON So far, so good. I've used JB Weld as a small-area body filler (for holes and other small dents and imperfections) for years. However, I've noticed some minor pitting in my JB Weld/primer/paint layers, above the windshield (Rock chips?). The holes in the metal that I JB welded were only a few millimeters in diameter. I also used it along the seam, which seemed to work just fine, so far.
      Also, I noticed in your 1st Gen restoration that you left those holes in the body. When I restored the body on my 1990, I used nylon screen window material (Probably should have used regular autobody fiberglass cloth?) as a backing and filled-in the holes with JB Weld, then sanded it smooth. That was over a decade ago, and no problems since.

    I've always liked those square body Dodge Cummins club cab 4wd trucks,with the automatic transmission since I'm disabled. They sound great and the straight 6 is very dependable. The history in big rigs says a lot.

    Sam, I have a well educated theory. The 'death wobble' you were experiencing, I'm fairly certain it's the weak leaf springs. I noticed at 37:03. That's probably why the steering bracket/frame fractured. Just saying. I've had the same problem on two semis .
    Greetings from the UK

    • @richardbates2367
      @richardbates2367 2 місяці тому

      That actually makes sense because the weight of the front axle and the brakes and hub Adapters and the wheels and tires and the heavy Cummins diesel engine...is directly on the springs on both the top and bottom of the frame so it's getting pushed against both ways so the weak springs can wreak some serious havoc on the entire front end of the truck.

      Yeah i loved the 74 two tone light on top and dark on bottom mint green d100 adventurer club cab short bed round corner ribbed sheetmetal frame, painted red, anyways the truck had very loose steering, so yeah and it was not even a 3/4 ton or a Cummins diesel truck...

      That being said id still love to be able to get a decentish 75 dodge 3/4 ton club cab long bed 2wd or 4wd truck preferably gold but id consider it being a 76-79/80 but yeah id have to tighten up the front end if it was a daily driver truck...

    Love the cat...Great info on the 1st Gen, Sam. Somehow I am out of sync again. The 3rd video of this truck popped up about breaking receiver, then I saw this video so I clicked on it and now a prior video when you bought it with "extreme death wobble". I will go back after this video and catch up. Thought I was subscribed and now not so I have hit "Subscribe" again. Beautiful paint work, body work and electrical repair. Much better with the SRW.

    My 2000 dodge ram the clear coat on the roof is a thing of the past and the paint has been baked and oxidized for probably 15 years before I got the truck so the paint looks like crap on my truck anyway,, and the hood is also loosing most of it's clear coat and even paint in some spots and when the previous owners haphazardly flat black spraybombed the red front doors and the replacement chrome front straight bumper on the monochromatic trim truck so it got sprayed black as well so there's over spray and touch up spots all over the truck...

    Looks like an awesome job well done. Not criticism as I am not anything remotely like an expert, but I would have put some additional steel plates where possible on the frame and parts so those cracks could never reoccur. I tend to really over repair things like those cracks as I would think that the original design was a little weaker than it should have been.
