    For Simon's name, say "Seamonster", but drop the "ster" at the end.

    I’m so glad you’re watching this!
    The Swedish audio 100% has better acting, honestly. The actors did do their own English dubbing, but the voiceover still loses a lot of the subtlety and emotion that helps make the series so powerful.

    Wilhelms mother is the queen, and his dad is just a prince. He was married into the royal family and the queen was born crown princess (as Erik is the crown prince).

    non-res means someone who doesn't live at the school. so basically in sweden most of the schools have free education, so all the rich kids in this school pay for residency but simon and and sara got in there on scholarship and live at home cause they can't afford boarding at the school. so they're considered from a "lower class" and thus looked down upon by the other rich kids. also no, sara doesn't work at the stables, all the horses in that stable are owned by the other kids at that school, but sara doesn't have one of her own so she tried to help in taking care of the horse (felice's horse) so she can ride it sometimes.

      Slight correction: Simon and Sara don’t need a scholarship because the school only charges for boarding, but they live in town. There is no tuition, so they don’t have to pay for anything other than maybe testing fees. They would have to get good grades in order to get in, though

    Derek, no spoilers but Omar Rudberg(Simon) is really a singer. He was in a Swedish boy band called FO&O. He also just released his first new solo album called OMR. Omar can speak Spanish, Swedish and English. This is also Omar 's very first acting job. Your dislike of August is warranted but the actor is really a very nice person, kind of like Sebastian Croft (Ben) in Heartstopper.

    I also hate when shows just drop the subtitles when someone speaks English! It's like you have to suddenly change how you process it and I prefer to have English subtitles on for shows in English as well so whenever they disappear I suddenly panic that I won't hear anything and miss stuff because I'm used to just having my crutch there ready to help :D

    I'm happy you're watching this! It's such a great show. You already picked up on the chemistry between Wilhelm and Simon - it's there right from the start. When he's listening to Simon singing in the choir, it's the first time that Wilhelm smiles in the whole episode. That's my favorite detail.

    Oh, and non-res stands for non resident and it just means that they don't live at the school and don't have to pay for housing. Going to school (even private/boarding school) is free and accessible for everyone in Sweden. But yeah, Sara and Simon are looked down upon because they're poor.

    So glad you are reacting to this. I watched your Heartstopper reactions and loved them. And I too was introduced to YR after watching that one. After watching the series in Swedish I watched it again with English dubbing, and it wasn't bad at all. The main actors are all fluent in English and they did that dubbing themselves, which, according to Edwin Ryding who plays Wilhelm, was really fun. Looking forward to the rest of your reactions to this. Interesting plot twists ahead.

    So happy to see you reacting to this!!! I was one of the people strongly recommending that you watch it so this made my day.
    I haven’t read the other comments yet but some things I wanted to point out. There are no spoilers in my comments. Everything I point out is stuff you should get from the first episode if you watch it hundreds of times like I have.
    1. The Queen is the actual monarch so they wanted Wilhelm to sit next to her.
    2. Non- res is a student at the school who does not actually live there. Simon and Sara live nearby.
    3. The douchy one is August, Wilhelm’s second cousin.
    4. Keep an open mind on every character. They are all very complex and you’ll see that as the season unfolds.
    5. I don’t believe you’re actually supposed to think negatively about any of the characters. They all have things you will empathize with them for and things that will make you angry. There are a couple of characters that I can’t stand though 😂😂. Micke (Simon’s dad) is not one of them.
    6. Omar Rudberg is the guy who plays Simon. He was actually in a very popular Swedish boy band and released a solo album last week. He sings in Swedish, English and Spanish. You should check him out.
    7. The chemistry between Simon and Wilhelm is the whole reason I and many others wanted you to watch this.
    8. You’ll get used to the language issue. You can try the dubbed version but the emotion is not the same. It’s actually very good for a dub because most of the actors do the English dubs. But it’s still not quite the same as hearing the Swedish. I watch a ton of Scandinavian tv shows because the writers are just so damn good so I barely notice anymore.
    9. Someone in the comments of another reactor’s video explained that Simon is pronounced like sea monster minus the ‘ster’ and that’s exactly right.
    10. It’s a horse stable.
    11. We don’t know all the details of how Simon and Sara ended up at Hillerska. You may have missed it but when they were getting on the bus Sara says she doesn’t want to get held back another year because she’s afraid to go to school. In one interview, Lisa Ambjorn (the writer) explained that Sara is a year older than Simon but she was held back a year because she was bullied and missed a lot of school because she was scared. So her and Simon got scholarships to Hillerska for some reason.

    • @EmberC
      @EmberC 2 роки тому

      1 -> foreshadowing

    • @EmberC
      @EmberC 2 роки тому

      11 -> Sara has Asperger syndrome, she was bullied in Marieberg, so probably their mother asked if Hillerska (nearest high school) would accept Sara and Simon. They did. So, Simon is there only because of Sara. He is not actually happy there. But he is pragmatic. He thinks that if I am here, I should make the most of it (getting good grades for his future life).

    -if you check the netflix subtitle settings, you'll see there are two for english: the regular subs, and the closed captions. the latter include the english dialogue because they're for the hearing-impaired (the two are slightly different in their translation of the swedish, though, so be aware of that)
    -"non-res" means they don't board at the school, they live at home instead
    -we don't actually know if they're on a scholarship or not, because school in sweden is free and they don't board, so why would they need a scholarship? but it's never outright mentioned, so who knows
    -sara helps out at the stables because she likes horses, but i don't know if it's ever said it's a job, or if she does it for school credit, or if she just volunteers for fun
    -yes, they're looked down on because they're not rich (i don't think they're technically below the poverty line, they're just working class, unlike all the rich kids at school)

    • @EmberC
      @EmberC 2 роки тому

      Lisa, the head writer, said they are not scholarship students. Sweden provides free education but boarding needs tuition fees. That is why Sara and Simon are non-res kids. Sara was bullied so they ended up at the nearest school to their home (which is Hillerska) other than their old school (Marieberg, which Sara was heavily bullied). Simon is here, at Hillerska, to protect Sara.

    You are right Wille is a bit outside of the elitist mentality.
    Yes Simon (Omar = singer) has a great voice.
    True the races are diverse, they are looked down because they are working class kids. Yes their dad is an addict.
