    A car is really just an extension of one's own body, so it's about knowing where you are and how others will be around you. I think if you relate driving to walking, then the importance of self-awareness becomes clearer in a car.

      Yes, I remember my father also told me this. When the car becomes the extension of one's body, driving feels more under control and comfortable. Definitely needs practice especially for beginners like me😢💪

    i was told by my instructor to use the side mirrors mainly. when i was still a learner ive seen some videos that u should check the center mirror first so i did it on a lesson and he basically put his hand over it and said imagine this aint here. i was also told nothing about blind spots, checking the center mirror when slowing down or checking my mirrors after building up my speed lets say after i make a turn at a crossroad. i was also told that i should clutch down first and then brake when stopping (at all times), and when i asked him if it isnt better to brake first and then clutch down when revs get to a 1000, he basically said something like it doesnt rly matter. what i can also recall, i wasnt taught how to setup the seat properly, basically i was told to set it up so i feel comfortable and lastly, i wasnt told to also put the car in gear after im parked, only the handbrake. my instructors been teaching driving for 20 years and is an ambulance driver for 30 years, no accidents. i feel like the driving schools in my country, czech republic, are focused on people passing the test rather than preparing them for their new chapter in life as a driver.. been following u for some time now and in my free time i like to watch ur videos, for example the clutch down off gas thing is new to me as ive been told to come off the gas and then clutch down and also many many things to find here because u not only just say u should be doin something but u explain the reasons and everything, its interesting and entertaining also, u look like u rly enjoy ur job.. id love to got u as my driving instructor if i wouldnt have my licence yet

    Thank you so much for all helpful videos you made, James. I am practicing driving car but quite confused about checking mirror when turning right at T junction when you are in the main road. I imagine in a situation that when you want to turn right in the road ahead and you check central and right mirror. if you see a car behind is driving quite fast and signal right while you are a bit slow down to prepare for signal right to go to position to turn right. what will you do in that situation that if you don't signal then it will be too late. if you signal then you know the car behind maybe overtakes. should we wait for the car behind to see what they want to do? or should we go ahead with turning right? In the case of going ahead then what is meaning of checking right mirror when we turn right?

      @@ConquerDriving Thanks for the reply! I'm still a little confused: by moving away, do you mean switching lanes? What about when moving to the right or left on the street to avoid objects like parked cars as in this video? Are blind spots checks required then?
      As for junctions, do you mean when you're turning into a new street? So no blind spot checks then?

    Hey I have seen all the videos you have made on driving uphills. You demonstrate different techniques to prevent rolling back. But still, there's a lot more you can add to them. Preventing rolling back clearly is the most challenging part of driving, specially if one lives in hilly areas with dense population/vehicles, like I do. Can you make a video on a rather busy road Uphill, where in, there is Bumper to Bumper Traffic and you need to start and stop many times while the cars behind you are adamant on keeping no distance with your car at all? Haha, I know this is asking for too much, But I am honestly frustrated to not master this skill. All your hill videos have been on empty roads. Please make one while maneuvering busy traffic uphill. (without using handbrakes) Thank you in anticipation. :)

    I enjoy your videos although I've been driving for many years, but thankfully not in GB. Those narrow winding streets and roads would take a lot of getting used to. After decades of driving I've only had two accidents, one not my fault and the other was my fault. I made a left turn into a parking lot through a line of cars that was solid as far as the eye could see. I waited quite a while. Then I thought one driver was going to let me through as he left some space, but he didn't stop. I was 17. It was a minor fender bender. The other accident was caused by someone who made a left turn right in front of me. Same kind of accident, but different culprits, and many years apart.

    • @mrzadahmed4651
      @mrzadahmed4651 4 роки тому

      for left side judgement 1st park ur car in a road with a gap of 1feet from the marking of asphalt. then u need to find the point where that marking lines meets ir intersects in ur windshield. usually it intersects in the middle reference point in ur windshield/dashboard.stick a small dashboard toy (which u can buy easily in amazon or any shop) in that location. now if u see a car infront of ur car in the left side of that toy that means ur far enough to overtake the car. if the see the car in the right side of that toy then its not safe to overtake it. though is helpful for new drivers but exact judgement will come only by experience. and as ur driving a suv so i think the bonnet is visible for ur sitting position so i think its not very difficult to judge the car.

    Hi Richard, I have gotten back to driving after a long break, and I am basically back at square one. I started watching your channel a week ago, and I cannot tell how helfpul it is for me. Back to this video though; may I ask you, what would happen on the multiple lanes roundabout, if you wanted to exit left, and wanted to change your line left, but there would be cars in the left lane? Would you have to end up driving another round around the roundabout? Thank you for your time, and I look forward to reading your answer.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  2 роки тому +1

      If you have a break from driving and haven't been driving for years it's normal to forget. There shouldn't be anyone on your left as they should not pass on the left, this is known as undertaking. If you signal early enough and assertively position yourself they're unlikely to pass you. If they do though, you have to go behind them or round the roundabout again.

    I failed my driving test today. I had no minors but the one serious fault I had was from apparently not checking my mirrors to exit the roundabout, which I definitely did. I am so frustrated because if I over exaggerated the mirror check I would’ve passed. I also wear glasses which helped conceal my eyes from the examiners point of view.

    Hi great video, very helpful. At 9.31 when you checked your center mirror to slow down for the oncoming truck it was safe to slow down as the car behind you was at a sufficient safe distance which is fine. If the car behind you was too close to safely slow down would you just maintain current speed to go past the truck? thanks

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  3 роки тому +6

      You always slow down when you need to regardless of what is behind you. Being aware of what's behind you just allows you to slow down more gently if you're worried about what's behind.

    As a visual worker sometimes, I suggest you will wanna shoot your videos in 60fps if you want to move your camera fast without motion blurs. But that will also show ability of your aperture and how low noise is your camera CMOS. Especially vehicles are quick motion things like sports and sport videos with fast motions always need more frequent frames fps and lower data compression rate (larger file size a.k.a. larger bitrate) otherwise screen will be quite laggy and blurry.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  Рік тому

      I often do the head cam at 60fps. But I render at 30 which is an error on my part. Most of the stuff I film is in 25 or 30. Having said that, it still looks blurry at 60 fps. If it was much better I would have an incentive to do it all at 60fps. I think the blurriness is caused by other limitations.

    • @ParcoLee
      @ParcoLee Рік тому

      @Conquer Driving Certainly, can't rule out some reasons other than frame rate, like transparency of you lens, contour capturing of your CMOS (most digital camera nowadays expose with CMOS chips rather than CCD). How your CMOS deals with light and colours, is another issue. HDR could also be a issue, you'll get a piece of blur in the brightest part and a piece of blur in the darkest part, if your shot gets both brightest image and darkest image in the same picture without HDR function switched on. Each professional camera is various, especially sport specific types like GoPro. I can't be sure if any or your cameras get the similar problem, but in most consumer cameras today, like the latest phone cameras, they'll auto run some real-time FX processes like "scene optimizer". They'll be turned on if you shoot your video in 30fps, but off in 60fps. That might possibly slightly slow down your actual capture frame rate a little. Will even slow down more if you shoot something moves very fast, high speed, which will be actually decreased into 20fps or 22fps of the files you've taken. So you'll see even more laggy screens. Some of your moving head scenes got likely such problems as far as I guess. And I know, if you wear the camera on your head, it won't move if you just move your eyeballs, unless if any very specific eyesight controlled cameras like Google glasses.
      If you really would like to solve with frame rate, but doesn't help even you've tried 60fps already, then AFAIK one more solution you could have a try is something like "oversampling". I did a lot oversampling in processing audios, sometimes photos too. You could try, similar basis, just shoot your video in very high rate if you and your cameras can, like 120fps, 144fps. Similar frame rate to which most modern gamers always require their computer monitor must do. After shot, do any processes as you want right still in this frame rate. Downsample back to 60fps after you believe you've already done everything you have to do, before uploading. I guess that may help a little bit, anyway, but you'll have to try my suggestion to know if it works. Think about the way how gaming streamers now capture their games and upload or even live broadcast. Most of their gaming scenes are more frequent than 120fps, but they'll only do 60fps max. on internet videos.

    Hi Richard, I notice there's a few comments on this video about blind spot checks. I'm based in NSW Australia. Any time we diverge a car width, a blind spot check is required. In your video at 15:43 you only check your left mirror to move across. Do you not think a left blind spot check is also required here?

    For anyone thinking you will need less lessons by watching videos on UA-cam, you will be wrong. You need actual lessons in combination with videos and theory work. Driving lessons are unique to each pupil. I'm taking lessons right now, and can say the actual lessons are pretty tough in manual. I watched hours of lessons and although they helped, I still need to physically practice the manoevers. One of my lessons solely practiced on parallel parking and roundabouts. I did parallel parking maybe 8 times to get it right in one actual lesson.

      You need 3 things to be become a good driver. Knowledge, skill and confidence. The videos help with knowledge and can help a little with confidence too.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  4 роки тому +1

      Press it a bit and wait, there is a delay. Some cars are far harder than others and some are just impossible. If it's impossible to give a small amount of revs, you will need to get to the bite point with the smallest amount of revs possible. Once at the bite point, don't increase the gas and the revs will come down.

    Amazing video. Sir one question when exiting roundabout lets say if you have too much traffic jam on the other side, and ofcourse you would need to break while doing that, do you need to check traffic behind. Usually while exiting roundabout we need to speed up, but then you realise other side is traffic jam or pedestrian crossing, so you will break as we don't have much time to check center mirror for behind traffic what do you advise in this situation. I was stuck in this because if we go slow, my instructor is why slowing down while exiting roundabout, if breaking then why harshly breaking without checking center mirror.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  2 роки тому +1

      You have to ask yourself this question. If you need to stop does it matter what's behind you? In my opinion it's best you focus ahead and slow down for queues as early and genlty as possible. Worrying about what's behind may delay your braking making you beale more harshly and causing more danger.

    when turning left - check middle mirror (to see what's behind), then check left side mirror (to see if someone is overtaking you, etc.)
    when turning right - check middle mirror (to see what's behind), then check right side mirror (to see if someone is overtaking you, etc.)
    notes: check briefly using your eyes, utilize peripheral vision, keep mirror checks updated (in case anything changed after you checked it earlier)

    • @ConquerDriving

      No, as you're at speed. The blind spot is more for when you're parked and others don't expect you to move.

    do you have any tips for how I can get back into the habit of checking more often? I was really good when I started learning pee-pandemic but my instructor changed when I picked it back up again and we haven't gone back over mirrors like I asked so it's fallen out of routine, I still check them but not as much as I should, and not as much as I need to in order to pass. I just don't remember in some situations if I'm focused on what's ahead like at roundabouts, I remember when I'm signalling to go to a junction but I don't remember when going round parked cars and I sometimes forget my left mirror more than my right. I just keep being told to just remember next time but I need to get back into the habit, I have my own car to practice in but I'm a bit lost on how to form that habit again so I don't miss any. Is there anything you teach new learners to help them get the habit drilled in?

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  3 роки тому +1

      Driving a bit more slowly will give you more time to think and check. Your instructor can remind you but mostly it needs to come from you. But generally speaking, if you're struggling with something, doing it more slowly normally helps most things.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  4 роки тому +11

      Overtaking cyclists is a video I need to do. Only overtake when you feel confident that you have enough time, be patient, follow and pass with enough distance that if they fell off you wouldn't hit them. Use a lower gear for more acceleration.

    when u changed to the left lane to leave the roundabout (15:40), isnt it better to stay in the right lane and leave the roundabout from the right lane for the exit and change to left lane later in that exit road, changing lane in roundabout is riskier. (and if I do, will it be a fail in the test?)

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  2 роки тому

      It depends on the roundabout and traffic flow. But on test you should be following the road ahead which is normally the left lane. As people are less likely to pass you on the left when you're on a roundabout that is an ideal opportunity to change lane, however if there are cars next to us we will leave in the right lane and change later.

    • @ConquerDriving
