I've never had a bike yet that didn't have a kick start. I never bother with the electric start on my XS-650. If I ever got a Harley, it'd probably be a Sporty, and I'd definitely want this!
Idle speed is too low for the Sportster Evo motor. According to the owner's manual and the factory service manual, the idle speed has to be +/- 1000 rpm's to maintain oil supply to the oil pump or it will cavitate and starve the engine of motor oil. the SLOW "Potato-Potato" is for the BIG EVO motor. The new EFI Sportster's won't even let you adjust the idle speed down lower than it is supposed to be. There is a reason for this. I have a 2005 Sporty and its relatively smooth, FAST "Potato-Potato" is very pleasing to my ear. Other than that, this is a great video and it makes me want to install the kick start feature.
Glad you enjoyed the video. As to the idle speed, the pump is gravity fed so the oil is always at the pump, I have monitored oil pressure at low tick over speed and there is certainly sufficient to keep all the bearings fed and the hydraulics pumped up. I've raced Sporty's and you'd be amazed how much punishment these little motors can handle, a little potato potato isn't gonna kill it :)
EFI with a Computer? Loved the start. Used to have a Kicker on my W650 along with Electric Start. Great back up for when the battery was low. Could always keep moving. Now I have a XL1200 2019 and thinking about this.
The later rubber mount sportsters don't have the convenient cartridge gear box and it's a full motor strip to access the box and for this reason I don't think they offer a kit.
@@andyforbes-buckingham1183 Ouch! I could see something like that although I suspected the engine diagnostic by the computer to be a stopping point on an EFI Kick Start. Maybe when I have a grand and 7 hours to do a full engine detail take down.
I have a 2016 48 Sportster and I wanna save some weight on it, what van I remove or swap out with something else? Is a kick start kit going to save me weight if I remove the Electric starter and all of the stuff with it?
original kick starters were infamous to kick back destroying your legs. remember the sportster knee?? this works in a different manner, does it give the same problems??
This kit is like the big twin style kicker. The problem with the ironhead kicker is the slipping from running a long shaft to the left side of the bike. The shaft will sometimes flex therfore messing up the gear mesh. This kit is entirely on the right side of the bike. Do NOT order the Chinese kit. Led sled offers lifetime warranty for there products. In my opinion its worth the extra cash.
i wanna get one itll go wit my sporty chop project but $1k is steep im not gonna buy junk its my transshaft unfortunately the only reliable kit is ledsled for 1k
Thanks, we drilled the sprocket cover and turned down a spacer. Its just a case of bolting it on from the inside of the cover then. The outer spacer required a slight angle on it to hold the foot peg square but its just a bit of trial and error.
Just bought a 1992 Sportster and I'm stripping it down hopefully into my dream chop scoot anyways does this kit work on sportsters from the 90s? Anything helps bud
Not actually undertaken the work on a later model, the earlier models have the advantage of a trapdoor transmission whereas yours would require a full engine strip to access the gearbox, it would make the job much more time consuming assuming the parts are compatible.
The kit was designed for evo Sportsters with the cassette style transmission, the later Sportys require a motor strip to access the trans, the output shaft is different also so this kit will not work on later models.
This kit is designed for the earlier 5 speed box, the cassette style, the newer Sportster require a crankcase split to access the transmission and the gears are different.
i wish ya would have did a video on how to relocate the mastercylinder and foot peg

How did you relocate the rear brake master cylinder?
Great video. Could you please share how you maintained the mid controls and mounted the master cylinder? Thanks in advance!

i lowered mine on my carb its a slow potato when she starts but as my sport warms up the idle speed does too no issues for a long time

hi, wondering what the exhaust is that you have on the bike
I think it was a Cycle Shack system from CCI, I don't know if they are still available
When kick start is instaled how about electric start is stil function to start or not?
HI! beautiful kit!! what about belt to chain conversione? it this a must to install the kit? how can I clean a chain with the exaust in front??
No you can run it on belt drive also.
sweeter n juicier than fresh summer,, hey man “ mustang” tank 4.5 gal,, my 67 sporty,, 185 miles, 24 tooth cruzer
what do you think about the new V Twin kit for 2007 and up sportster? it needs to disassemble the engine to replace the main shaft...
Can you make a how to install jockey shift with foot clutch video?
did ya need a press to put the trans shaft in?
did you mount ur rear master cylinder back there? or is it just hanging by the linkage

I've done a few now and I've had no feedback from owners about savage kick back

What exhaust kit!!!!!!
that engine rumble really makes it an iron horse
Did you remove the electric start?love the kicker, its a good anti theft device these days 👍
No the bike retains the electric start, you could however remove it if you wanted to.
cool.

nice man! gonna install this on my sporty soon I was wondering how you mounted those mid controls on ?

did you have to put a different ignition in it for kicking?
Buonasera va modificata anche l accensione?
do you still carry the battery and electic starter. or that got rmoved for weight and more coolness?
On this bike yes, although on others we have stripped it out.
sorry just another question: electronic does remain the stock one or do you need to change advance/timing switching to dynaS or similar modules?
No this bike is on the original ignition, stock timing.
Just bought a 1992 Sportster and I'm stripping it down hopefully into my dream chop scoot anyways does this kit work on sportsters from the 90s? Anything helps bud
As long as it's a 5 speed pre rubber mount the kit will fit it so yes it will fit your 92. Good luck with the build!
@@andyforbes-buckingham1183 So this will not work on a 2014?
@@decadantdog4444 I think not, the later bikes do not run a cassette style gear box, and the output shaft is different.
@@andyforbes-buckingham1183 Thanks
How to purchase it?
does the kicker get in the way of the mid controls?
No its fine
i will get one next year for mine and an autoclutch for my wife sportster. i been looking at rekluse.
If I run forward controls will I still have to DIY things?
Depends where your master cylinder is mounted, if it's on the gearbox sprocket cover then yes you will as the kicker and spring will be in the way.
Can you install a kicker on a 2017 IRON 883?
Not actually undertaken the work on a later model, the earlier models have the advantage of a trapdoor transmission whereas yours would require a full engine strip to access the gearbox, it would make the job much more time consuming assuming the parts are compatible.
Andy Forbes-Buckingham So, not worth it.
Led sled rigid frame kit for 2017 iron 883 possible?
Thats really for you to decide, depends how much you want it!
Yea...well all i gotta do is push a button to start my bike.😎💪
This will work on evo sportsters up to '06? Anything past has to be done a different way right?
The kit was designed for evo Sportsters with the cassette style transmission, the later Sportys require a motor strip to access the trans, the output shaft is different also so this kit will not work on later models.
@@andyforbes-buckingham1183
Awesome. Thankyou
It is possible put a kicker in a electronic injection fuel system Sportster
This kit is designed for the earlier 5 speed box, the cassette style, the newer Sportster require a crankcase split to access the transmission and the gears are different.
so, you dont need any battery anymore, right?
Given that the ignition is a battery excited system the bike does require a battery, you could however run a much smaller option.
I love it
Cool
I don't think my 1981 Ironhead sportster would be able to have this done.
I think not
Andy Forbes-Buckingham - Confirmed, the way the engine/trans is designed it will not work.
No the ratchet gear sits on the end of the output shaft that goes through the 5th gear, the 4 speed tranny is totally different.
$1,000 for one of these....IDIOTIC!
There are alternative kits out there which are cheaper but I couldn't vouch for their quality
You get what you pay for. Cheap isnt quality and quality isnt cheap
Coolness is worth it no matter the cost
