Filling Squire's shoes had to be the toughest gig for any bassist. The guy was a giant in every sense of the word. Yes kicking ass here, obviously loving playing together again. RIP Chris.
as a "kid" i can agree that a large portion of modern music is bad, (ex. payboi carti, drake, taylor swift), but there are absolute geniuses such as Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole in the lyrical sense and Kobo Kanaeru, Hoshimachi Suisei, and ado in the vocal sense.
@@notRowan61thank you I like older music too but that doesn’t mean modern music is horrible, even if stuff like Taylor swift is not to my taste I see why people like it, even if it is torture to me
Whilst the performances of Anderson, Rabin and Wakeman are superb.... the hero of this performance is the bass player. He has captured the spirit of Squire's playing (and vitally singing) and remains humble enough to let the lead players shine... but really he's nailing it in every way, while remaining a 'side-man', which is an incredible balancing act. I really hope ARW, move beyond the main three-guys and embrace these other guys as fully fledged members of Yes and get them involved in the writing of new material. They've seriously earned it. Just my view.
Lee Pomeroy - great player. He had played with ELO (Jeff Lynne's) Friday night in Philly for their last show of the tour, then played on Sunday in L.A. (N. Hollywood) at the Whiskey a Go-Go with Yes (ARW). I've seen him with Steve Hackett many times too. Nice guy in person - on stage, always smiling and bouncing around. Plays guitar, bass, and adds great vocals. I heard him play a bit here that Chis always threw in from one of his bass idols, Larry Graham Jr. (Sly and the Family Stone). 4:09 ish.
Chris squire wore a cape too sometimes I saw yes live in 1998 and he wore one and he was so energetic playing that Bass - he was a legend and bass master and integral to that magical yes sound
This lineup is fantastic. The interplay with Wakeman, Rabin and Pomeroy is so good! Jon sounds as amazing as ever and the drummer is so tight. This is so great!
Seems like a really nice guy too! I wish ARW would do an entire album of new music. I love Rabin as a musician, composer, etc, but not crazy about his singing voice. It's very good, but there's something special about guys like Lynne and Anderson.
Absolutely. Pomeroy has also been the bassist for Steve Hackett, ELO, Rick Wakeman's British Rock Ensemble. And if you've heard his compositions outside of 'Yes' - it's clear to see that he is an incredibly demanding task master. Pomeroy more than adequately fills Chris Squires' shoes.
The bassists name is Lee Pomeroy . You can find this excellent musician playing with Jeff Lynn’s Electric Light Orchestra, Steve Hackett and others, meticulously recreating the “recorded” bass performances of these Hitmakers and their music. He is definitely in the “First Call “ level of guys doing this. I’ve never heard him play a note that shouldn’t have been there.
This lineup sounds absolutely amazing, really, really tight, Trevor Rabin is on fire 👏 And the cherry on the cake,,, Jon Andersons voice, I was never a huge fan, until I heard this particular incarnation of Yes. Bravo 👏
So great to see the well deserved praise for Lee Pomeroy. Awesome player and even more awesome guy. You can tell he is enjoying the heck out of this gig, though he has worked with Rick previously. As a guy who has seen this tune live somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 times, to the point of beating the rush to the exits to get to the car, I have to say that Trevor has breathed new life into the tune that has been expectedly static for 45+ years.
Hey let's give some credit to the young man on lead guitar that was only 17 years old when this song came out. That should indicate the age gap with these guys. Trevor plays that old stuff like he wrote it. No, I'm not going to compare him with S Howe. No, no, no. But listen closely because there is no comparison. You know who nails it. Trevor is truly a guitar genius & more. Okay, I admit it, I am a Rabin fan. I lost my interest in YES in 1972. I turned 18 and I went to all rock, all the time. Louder is better, still. I became YES fan again with the release of 90125 & I noticed the young new face of their new guitarist and the music and lyrics really captivated me & I felt I could relate to some of the songs. I was a new fan for the Rabin-YES years and I remain a Trevor Rabin fan today. Thank you, Trevor for sharing your gift with the world.
Yup, I went to see them premiering Close to the Edge at the Crystal Palace Bowl on my Honda 50 a good 50 years ago. I guess my appreciation has improved over the years because I probably enjoying this more, even listening on my old iPad’s internal speaker 😂🍾❤️
I like how the bass player kept Squire's tribute to "wanna take You Higher". Classy and subtle. This is so much fresher and inspired than what the "other" Yes is doing.

Anderson’s voice is untouched by time. Beautifully preserved. Always been a huge Rabin fan and what he brought to the band. Great to see him back. This version of Yes do a great job.
Maybe you and the other fans who enjoy this don't mean it as a slight to Howe, but Rabin absolutely does mean it as a slight to Howe. if you ever meet him, just ask him and he will tell you.
I'll never meet them, of course. I don't understand these rivalries. These people are (among) the best in the world. I just accept each for what they are. This band certainly looks like they are having more fun than the Yes band, and the music is much "fresher.". I'm glad these 3 get along so well. And all of them made it into the Hall of Fame. Too bad Squire passed away before that.
Rabin and Howe have always gotten along and Howe wanted Rabin back in Yes around 2004/2005. (It's true that Howe didn't like sharing the stage with Rabin back in 1991 during the Union tour, though.)
I completely agree with you, Sanford. I'm one of those 'old' starting in the 70s fans who actually prefers Rabin's style! Steve noodles too much. I hated his silly lick at the end of "Awaken", but I'll stand up and fight for Steve over "Gates of Delirium". I guess I have split loyalties. (ha ha)
It was the offers of this old wild world > to live, to share, to occupy, to have fun and to live together. Unfortunately we have been so focused on the era change that we haven't had the time or the consciousness to organize, but the spirit is still there 💃🤠
I could be wrong, but it looks like Trevor Rabin is tearing up with emotion throughout the song. I don't blame him, this is just pure magic (And he's a very important part of that).
I wish this iteration of Yes had continued on and done studio albums like was originally the plan. I've never fully gotten over the way Howe's Yes treated Jon when he fell ill back in the 2010s--replacing him with a cover band singer and continuing on without him, not bothering to wait until he got better. Having said that, Howe's iteration's new single The Ice Bridge is some of the best new material from the Yes moniker I've heard in many years, so hopefully the Yes legacy can still live on by making relevant music again.
Anderson couldn't handle the rigors of touring, and face it, his new song offerings weren't really "current"-sounding. Howe chose to move on - mistake or not. I'm a huge fan since I was a teen in the early 70s, and with the possible exceptions of Howe and Wakeman, they all should have retired by now. Still, ARW are playing some great music.

There is no "Yes" without Jon Anderson. Wakeman is a King on the keys, hence the robe! Rabin killing it! I wish the sound mixer would have bumped up Pomeroy's bass a little more. This is the true Yes band with ARW. They sound amazing still.

I almost had the pleasure of seeing Jon Anderson live in my home state but unfortunately, I couldn't convince my mom to take me to the show(I was 16 at the time, she always told me that she grew up with this stuff and didn't really need to see it again!)
