I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level. - Спорт
Diawa Fuegos are light, super smooth and they are salt water rated. I have four of them and couldn’t be happier especially since they are less then $125.
thanks for sharing!
I 2nd the Fuegos. And I am a Shimano man for 30 years. I have 4 Fuegos and growing. Drag is so smooth. Hooked
I think they are underated as an inshore reel too, a lot of people go with a stradic or saltiest but the Fuego is the deal for the money💪🐟
I third this, the Fuego is one of my favorites.
I have a Fuego since 2016. I’ve used a lot the first two years. The reel is still smooth like the day I bought it. Shimano spinning reels. Never again.
Hi Matt , I enjoyed your comments on the Abu Garcia Spinning Reel. I recently purchased the Revo STX - LP 8.1 for my topwater / upper water column applications and have really liked how it has performed. The dual braking system it has is outstanding!!
I have had other Revos as well, and I plan to purchase this new spinning reel now.
Great to hear!
I purchased 2 of these reels last week. I get them today. My decision to purchase was based on a UA-camr on another channel. So glad I saw your channel. I subscribed. Looking forward to trying them out. Thanks for the info.
good luck fishing!
Nice vid!
Lews Speed Spin series and many other spinning reels they have are epic! Had a fifteen year old size 200 that I wore out, sent it in to them and they fixed it and send it back🏆
thanks for sharing
That’s what won me over to Lews , customer service is top notch ! Their Carbon Fire Spinning reel is a steal at $70
Great video. Good to give people good advice about options at various price points.
agreed!
That abu Garcia Revo x I got from you at the giveaway while back now. Is my favorite spinning reel I have at moment. I didn't start buying any mid to high end gear till about 2 yrs ago, I just used mediocre bass pro combos. After buying some diawa & Shimano mid-high gear. There's no going back for me. That Revo x for what it costs is an excellent spinning reel , I think. I absolutely appreciate it & use it every week , multiple times!
Glad to hear you are putting it to work!
I have a pile of the old revo reels from years past and they are really great, especially for the price point. I don't have any of the new ones yet, but I certainly have my eye on the SX for both baitcast and spinning. The SX is hands down my favorite baitcast reel so I am very interested to see the upgrades.
They are nice!
Oh man! I just bought a new reel last week! Would have definitely tried this out! Next time I need one, I'll check it out. Thanks!
give it a try next time!
Thanks for the info!! I’ll check them out! 🎣🐟🎣🐟
you bet!
Awesome review of those spinning reels, I will check them out!!!
Thanks!
You turned me on to the REVO sx and so far, I love it
its a nice reel!
I love my new Revo SX! Drag is very smooth! Got it replace my Shimano Miravel, cause I was not happy with the the drag.
thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking of treating myself to a nice spinning reel for once. That price isn't too bad for the quality you're talking about.
i think a high end spinning reel is nicer to have than a high end baitcaster
I have a variety of spinning reels but I prefer Shimano Stradic and Sustain and am well pleased with their performance. Starting out I always fished Garcia Mitchell reels. Years ago when I had a Bass Boat I always used Garcia baitcasting reels. There are Pros and Cons with all reels. Good Luck in the Future and Stay Safe. God Bless.
thanks for sharing!
I have mostl all Shimanos but been converting to Daiwa. You seem to get better bang for your buck with the Daiwas and they sometimes go on sale. Shimanos rarely do..
I'm a big fan of abu Garcia spinning combos and bait caster combos and rods and reels
me too!
The Zata series is phenomenal. Havnt tried the baitcasters but the spinning reels are clutch.
yep!
Thanks Matt
you bet!
Not sure if I missed it in the video but what size reel are you showing/ do you recommend for a 7ft medium rod with around 6-8-10 lbs line
It’s a size 30
Good video, good review
thanks!
Love my revo x bait caster, looking to up grade or add to the arsenal, thanks for the video.
you bet!
Hey, Matt. Nice video. Which size is that in the video? Do you recommend a 30 or a 40 size for a 7' MH (fast) rod? (for 8 or 10lb mono/flouro).
30 and I’d recommend it
I use Vanfords right now . Drag, Gear ratio, and line twist control are important to me . Matt how is the Revo’s line twist control ? I know allot of reels had the cross web wrap to help prevent line twist . I also untwist line before each fishing trip on spinning reels .
they work great!
I’ve been Bass Fishing for 55 years now and I actually have more spinning reels than bait-casters for the first time ! Most times I have 2 drop-shot rigs and 2 Shakey head rigs and 2 soft stick bait rigs 1 wacky and 1 conventional . Plus a jerk bait tide on one !
I’ve been looking at this one at the store a few times but it’s hard to put down my Daiwa’s. Maybe one day I’ll give Abu a try
go for it!
Whats the differences between the revo 3X and the revo 3SX all i can find is a couple of bearings separating them same body design gears drag.
i believe its a different gear system
I love the Pfluger reels personally!!
sounds good!
I have a new Revo rocket. Drag is terrible. Glad you got a good one.
Sorry to hear that
I have the Revo SX baitcaster, really like it! I find it casts very well, and durable enough to troll for lake trout and walleye.
thanks for sharing!
Been fishing Daiwa reels for a while now and thinking about trying a couple of the winch spinning reels for spybaits and ultra light crankbaits
they are nice!
I have 4 size 30 Revo rockets for spinning, 3 stx and a zenon for baitcast. The stx is great, the zenon is the best reel I’ve ever used and imo the rockets are right there with the Vanford for less money
i use them all in my tournaments!
@@MattStefanFishing I will be as well starting next month when bass season opens here in PA😃
Those reels look slick! I think Abu Garcia knocked it out of the park with this one.
yep
🍺Matt. I’m glad you like the Revo SX. Confidence plays an important part in a anglers overall productivity on the water and that is nicely priced.👍Are you allowed to and or would you try a reel that is not Abu Garcia? Same question about rods (Only MHX?) Lastly I could be wrong but I believe the MGX’s are currently $349.95. The Zenon which is over an ounce lighter has a carbon handle and a carbon fiber drag system is $549.95. I believe that is currently Abu’s highest end spinning reel. 🤠
I have used lots of other brands over the year nad at the moment am very pleased with my Abu's. They discontinued the MGxtreme this year to make way for the Zenon. both retail for about $550. I havent used the zenon spinning reel yet, but absolutly love the zenon baitcasters. As for rod blanks. I have a few non MHX blanks that I build and use, but love my MHX blanks!
@@MattStefanFishing🍺Understood. Perhaps I’ll try again someday.🤠
I have 2 of them and love it
nice!
How are these comapred to the Rocket? Was about to buy a rocket but cant find if just the spool is bigger or the entire reel is bigger for the 3 models....We dont have any locally to compare.
they are both great spinning reels
im trying to decide on this revo3 or the shimano vanford. if you was to chose which one are you taking? i was also thinking if im gonna pay the 269 for the vanford. then i should just get the zenon x spinner for 299. hard choice !!
I love my zenon
@@MattStefanFishing perfect, i actually picked up the zenon x last night. thanks buddy!
Got a previous gen Revo 2X spinning reel!
Works just as amazing as the new Revos, but came at a lovely price of 60 bucks
Great to hear!
Is that a 2500 or 3000 size? If the smaller, have you ever tried going to a larger spool?
I prefer the 3000 size
What rod is that you have paired with it
It’s a custom made MHX blank i build
What size is the reel and what rod you have it on?
its a custom built MHX NSJ-871 rod with the abu Garcia Revo SX 30
I had two of the black and red ones and the drag broke on both I hope these are better
these are completely revamped
Have you tried the revo alx theta?
Nope
Looks nice
its a great reel!
Hello,Abu garcia revo 2500/3000 its the difference is in the size of the reel itself or are they the same size with different performances, thanks for the answer and greetings to you and all fellow fishermen🎣🎣🎣
different spool size primarily
I'm a huge fan of the abu revo x gen 2 reels. So now they are discontinued you can find them at half price in some places and ive been buying them as i find them. I have 2-3 in each of the spinning models and a few baitcaster. Im a spinning reel fan. Rarely do i use baitcasters. Im a die hard finesse fisherman. But i have had my eye on this new revo sx. I might have to pull the trigger on it.
they are great!
Lew's KVD 300 is very good at $ 150. Very economical reel. Super smooth drag
thanks for sharing!
I am used to back-reeling big fish but looks like manufacturers are eliminating the switch for that in the newer designs.
i think you are in the minority when it comes to backreeling and will probably continue to have a hard time finding it in new version spinning reels as companies/anglers go away from it.
Fuegos, Tatula LT, Miravel, NASCI, and Sedona. I guess you are an Abu man. To each his own.
stick with what you have confidence in!
What size do you use? 30? Thanks, love your videos!
30 is my preferred
Brother, please please please, the next time you have the chance to get your hands on a lews custom light spinning reel 300, please give it a try. Best spinning reel I’ve ever used for most freshwater applications for under $200!
thanks for sharing!
I like Shimano Exsense. Batman reel smooth as silk. Refuse to buy Abu again they hosed me pretty good on two bait casters. Fyi they for sale
thanks for sharing!
Abu is absolutely on my radar now… I bought a zata bait caster for the soul purpose of beating the crap outta it. It was cheap enough for me to buy and figure maybe 2 years in the marshes, cut my losses when she breaks and do it again. That bastard is still kicking, and kicking strong with basically no maintenance. So, now I’m considering a 300-400 Abu for swims/glides. If anyone’s run’n Abus for big baits, which model did they pick… and how long have you been beating it up??
I like the zata's as well!
just lost my revo sx when my kayak flipped.on me...😢 used it for half a day and loved.
oh no!
what rod is it paired with in this vid?
MHX NSJ-871
@@MattStefanFishing TYYY👍✨️✨️✨️
TW just acquired some VanStaal. I think the no bail of a ZeeBass makes sense. Why do you need a useless bail?
thanks for watching
The $100-200 price range for spinning reels has some true heavy hitters that are going to be hard to beat.
lots of good reels in that price range, but i havent used them all so i cant speak to them unfortunately
Oh man! I won a sales contest at work and upgraded my old pflueger presidents to daiwa regal LTs. $59.99 each😂
nice!
What SP do you use? 30?
yep thats my preferred
Lews Speed Spool at $100 is a very good reel and the Lews CarbonnFire is a steal at $70
thanks for sharing!
I know its good if you caught all them carp and cats And you endorse good enough for me. Appreciate Getum
we have abused them haha!
I’ve been throwing my jerk baits on my spinning gear all season so far. Gotta say, I’ve been preferring it over my medium casting combos. Buddies give me crap but I’m getting more bites 🤷🏻♂️
stick with what you are comforatble with
@@MattStefanFishing Definitely brother, Not sure why i'm seeing more success on a spinning combo. Maybe its the retrieve speed?
I was a daiwa fanboy....i have had a few bad experinces with both low end and mid end stuff. Im shying away from Daiwa and am leaning towards Abu just because of the nostslgia factor. I am just confised as to where each reel sits in the lineup. I could tell you where Shimano and Daiwa spinning reels are in their lineup but know nothing about abu
id recommend going to tackle warehouse and just reading about each abu reel. I honestly dont think you can go wrong with any of them.
@@MattStefanFishing I'm in Australia, I think I have an idea now. I just checked the abu website
sold!
awesome!
I like your video. I personally don’t like this reel. You right this reel never break the bank . This reel is bird nest. I have couple Abu reels. They all bird nest. Don’t know why. I am using 10 lb braided line or 10 lb fluorocarbon line.
Sorry to hear that
Have to stay with the daiwa but like the revo
stick with what you have confidence in
@@MattStefanFishing thanks for your good tips and videos matt
I love the Abu spinning reels. I upgraded a bunch at 1 time so had to keep the $ low, and went with Revo X for anything 6# and under. Orra S for heavier line. They were the best drag for the $ at the time and worth every penny. I still look for Orra parts and spools on E-bay to stock up for my estate sale...don't tell my nephews I said that!
nice!
Bought that reel. I used it a few times and didn’t like it. I replaced it with the new Daiwa tatula lt mq. I’m selling it brand new for $100. The new Abu Garcia bait casters are amazing but not a fan of the spinning reels
thanks for watching
Shimano makes the best reels. I have 4 Stradic reels.
shimano makes nice spinning reels
Daiwa and Finn nor yep
thanks for sharing!
It’s “fishing elbow,” not tennis elbow, and I have a bad case after this weekend!
haha!
F**ck fuego, were going there untill i tried a Revo sx. Wow, such a nice handling spinning reels. Not like anything abu has made before, they are insanely good feeling.
They are nice
Yes they are. Nice to finally being able to buy a ABU reel and get the best feeling reel available, again. I live here in Svängsta so have been feeling a bite ashamed using anything other than ABU.
Matt, I've watched you build rods but haven't seen you balance a rod before you glue on the butt cushion. Do you? I balance mine and it makes a big difference with fatigue. Try it on your next build, I find a couple washers in the butt before you glue it works for me.
Im acutally not a huge fan of adding weight. I prefer to position the handle to balance it better
I don't believe you. You better send me one so I can test it for myself. 😉
hahah!
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
I only own and use one spinning reel….Diawa Kage. I can’t stand the wind knots!! 😂😂
thanks for watching!
I'll stick with my Daiwa BG 3000.
stick with what you have confidence in
Kind of looks like the old 300 real
has some similar characteristics
$175.00 is waaaay to much to spend on an egg beater. As a matter of fact it's to much to spend on a bait caster these days. Lots of inexpensive reels available. Shimano, Daiwa, and the other big name reel manufacturers have jacked the prices up so high they've priced themselves out of the blue collar market.
May need a new job or hobby, fishing ain’t cheap 😂.
its not just fishing reels. I drop more than that everytime i go to the grocery store now....im bleeding money it feels like
@@db9818 Flippant replies like yours D B do not help this channel.
@@chrisduffy2737 pulling your chain man, lighten up. Also Diawa and Shimano have quality reels in the $100 range.
@@MattStefanFishing right! Family of three and I fork out around $400 a week, we eat good but four yrs ago it was half that.
Still beyond my price range even at $170. I use spinning gear 1% of my fishing time and would rather spend that kind of money on a new Curado. I do completely understand your needs as you are making a living with these tools. I do appreciate your videos though.
I would have to agree with you. I really think MOST people will maybe go to about $100. Anything over that for a spinning reel just seems to much for the weekend angler. 🙂
thanks for sharing!
@@bobpayseno7481Man. I would have to disagree with you. I’m less than a weekend warrior but I like to be comfortable with my gears. A good spinning reel is a must have if anyone fishes with a spinning rod. Losing fishes due to incompetent drag frustrates me a lot. Plus, if I use a low budget spinning reel that is heavier than a good spinning reel, I risk injuring my wrist and tiring out my hand after using a heavy low-budget spinning reel.
@@Unspoke
That’s fine- everyone has their own opinion. I have found very good spinning reels that are light and have lots of gears and are very smooth for under $100. I think if you took the time to poll 100 fisherman, you would definitely find your view is in the minority.
@@bobpayseno7481That may be true that my opinion is in minority. However, I prefer spinning over baitcasting and I bet the majority prefer the opposite of me. It’s fine. I find that it’s all about find what makes fishing enjoyable for you. I just think that it’s get on people’s nerves moreso than they realize.
The 1st minute and a half said a TON about why I watch your channel!!! You've got channels that are pushing the crap out of 500$+ rods and reels that's unreasonable for average anglers and I feel like they're pushing away new anglers! The newer fishermen thinks they have to get the absolute best but don't realize it can be done with budget friendly equipment!
thanks! I appreciate the support and can only afford the high end stuff that I use since I'm sponsored by them. If I wasn't I would be using the middle priced stuff like the REVO SX . I would just feel ridiculous promoting $500 reels when i cant even afford that.
How long do you really feel that $170 real is going to hold up? . At the end of the day they all do the same thing the only difference is the drag and how solid the real as long-term. This whole video is kind of bullshit. Almost every fishing reel on the market is 8 ounces are above there’s only a couple that are below that so weights really not up for comparison
Hahaha
I’m sorry but nothing ABU is legit. It’s pure trash. Durability is just not there.
I have 5 Abu's and love them. JMHO.
i respect your opinion but completely disagree
