- Researchers have found out just how risky sleep deprivation is. Studies have shown that sleeping less than six hours a night could increase the risk of suffering a heart attack by up to 50%, an 11% higher risk of hypertension and a 50% higher chance of an early death. Almost a third of Americans said they are sleep deprived. Meanwhile, Asians sleep on average six and a half hours -- 30 minutes shorter than most other countries. Dr Stijn Massar, a research assistant professor at the National University of Singapore's Sleep and Cognition Laboratory, shared more about sleeplessness in Asia.
Kudos to the producers for getting the point that by intervening on improving sleep, multiple health and wellbeing goals are also targeted and met. Very compelling graphics.
Congrats Dr. Massar. I'm proud to call you my friend and study mate...kind regards from one of your early Guinea pigs that left you surprised in one of your early experiments on mental fatigue ;-)
However, the organisers were informed a month before the event that the application was cancelled after NLB reviewed the manuscript. Consequently, the book launch had to be held at an alternative location a day earlier.
"We embarked on this journey to capture as much as different voices as possible because we, we believe that, as we develop, we should have this, ability to discuss and debate, even if our views are, different." Yee Jenn Jong WP
The book launch of "Non-constituency Members of Parliament: What’s Next for the Scheme?", co-authored by Yee and Loke Hoe Yeong, was supposed to be held at the Central Library on 19 July.
"And I thought that, you know, a library would be the best place for that because it's a place of knowledge and discussion as we want to evolve the way Singapore should progress" WP
