Late nights: Bad for health? BBC News Review

From my experience in school, most students are night owls. I'm the opposite. I love waking up at the crack of dawn and commuting as early as possible. Early in the morning, the landscapes are amazing. In my country, nights are a bit dangerous and you're prone to be robbed and suffer chronic injuries. I'd better live in peace.
Yes, it seems to us that lots of students like to stay up late. But... we're not sure if that's because they're night owls or just because they have left their homework until the last minute! 😂😂😂
@@bbclearningenglish 😂 maybe both

@@bbclearningenglish the second one describes me!😅🤣
@@bbclearningenglish haha At this moment, we are likely to have amazing power.😁😁😁
Any one watching this at midnight? 😂😂
Almost midnight 😂

It's me 😭
Yep😂
I'm a medical student, and although I know that a night owl has more risks of chronic diseases than an early bird, I still am a night owl. Because I have to learn a big knowledge from medical university, I don't have time and I can't wake up in the early morning. It seems to be so fun when a doctor advises patients don't sleep too late, the doctor does it oppositely.
Do you think people should have more control over how many hours they have to work or study?
@@bbclearningenglish absolutely
Wow that's awesome your opinion on this type of thing that makes sense ❤️💃✍️🙏
@@bbclearningenglish yes I always thought so. Curriculum should consider what is required to be a doctor specifically. I see a lot of doctors end up studying a lot of stuff for exams that actually could have been relaxed.
Also it should be realistic to their schedules rather then trying to stretch themselves to fit in
Clearly you're not a very smart student. There's no evidence to support your claim regarding chronic disease. Do your research.

It's been almost three years that I lived as a night owl, soon I suffered from chronic insomnia which even made my mental health down. It's prone to depression and sleep anxiety . But now I'm trying to sleep at 10 pm and making a habit to be a morning person...always do Yoga and meditation at evenings. It works!
So do i and proud for you
@@khunthuraaung rgt! Doing yoga is really effective. BTW/pleasure to meet a burmese (hee") and looking forward to seeing u at another video of BBC learning english.😉
good to hear that haha
How can I sleep earlier If my work is still pending :((
hi its been a year i hope you recovered , wishing you well
Several years ago, I was an early bird. I woke up early in the morning to exercise and go running. At that time, my health was extremely good, both mental and physical. However, I am gradually addicted to social media, like TikTok and Facebook, so I almost stay up late every single day. I realized that I was deteriorating in health. I frequently have headaches and become sedentary and stagnant in my leisure pursuits than I used to. Now I am endevouring myself to break my bad habits and lead a healthy and balanced life.

I used to be a night owl, I stayed up all night and slept in the early morning. So at that time, I always felt exhausted and suffered from chronic diseases related to my stomach. But now, I have changed my routine. I sleep at 11 pm and wake up at 6.am. Then, I ride a bike for 30 minutes, eat breakfast and enjoy a cup of coffee. I decided to avoid anything prone to my life. Because of that, my quality of life is amazingly improved.

When i used to a morning person,it forces me to sleep early at night.I already knew that i won't get prone to chronic disease, but by and by i shifted my time of sleep to late nights in despair, then i started and were keen on watching series more and more and felt enthusiastic, and then whenever it is seen I'm fond of myself as a night owl. Irrespective of what i cannot go back to the time i were.Even though i tried so hard to get through because i was fed up with staying up late as a result, i started eating like a horse and drinking like a fish as well.
Good video, as always! Thank's for the work you've done
When I was a student I used to stay up late, but now I need to wake up early. My job requires being a morning person

Even though staying up late is prone to some chronic diseases, I still think I can do my work more effectively and creatively at late nights. It may sound a bit ironic, but it works for me !
Besides, I reckon that being a night owl or an early bird may not be as considerable as assuring that you have adequate 7-8 hours of sleeping for a day. For those whose jobs require to work at night such as flight attendants or doctors, their biological clock must be flexible.
Very good examples of the phrases in this programme! One small correction - "Even though staying up late makes people prone to some chronic diseases."
I don,t think so because night,s major function for humans is rest
People who do get rest during night tend to have good health compared to night owls

Thanks a lot with my heart💛
1.Mary is a vip of abc night club and night owl is the best description on her.
2. It is accident-prone if driving after drunk.
3. It is a chronic problem if nobody pay attention on a city hygiene.
Than k you
I’m usually a morning person since it brings me a lot of energy and a positive mind during the day. However, I can turn into a night owl when it is getting close to the final assignments. Staying up late helps me finalise the deadline better due to the cramped feeling and the high anxiety level that pushes me to work on the research and course concepts faster. Moreover, the quietness from midnight to early morning is a golden time for me to have my best focus. But I have to admit it’s not a strategy I would recommend to anyone. And I am still working on balancing my timetable to become an entire early bird, so that I don't have to constantly stay up late at night to the next morning.
Thanks for sharing.
Interesting topic, Neil.
Amazing way to teach🎉💐💐
Nice video. Thanks a lot 👍

The video is very good !! Thanks
This channel helps me lots in learning new words
😊 We're very happy to hear that. 🤔 What new words did you learn?
From studying in the university I haven't slept too late. I usually wake up at 6 o'clock and do exercise everyday.
Sounds like you have a good routine. Tip - 'lately' is an adverb which means 'recently' - the adverb we use here has the same form as the adjective: ' I haven't slept too late.'
