      Klingon High Command: General Martok, we have a mission for you.
      Martok: I stand ready to serve for the glory of the Empire.
      Klingon High Command: You must lay siege to a Gorn colony encroaching on our territory.
      Martok: Child's play. I could do it my sleep.
      Klingon High Command: Then we need you to infiltrate Romulan space and capture a D'Deridex battle cruiser intact.
      Martok: Breakfast had best be ready and waiting for me when I return.
      Klingon High Command: Then we will need to fend off a Borg incursion threatening our outer borders.
      Martok: I'll decorate my flagship with their skulls.
      Klingon High Command: But first we need you to deliver some bad news to your wife, Lady Sirella.

      Not only that, but his history and his origins are also just as interesting. Most higher up Klingons including Worf were among the nobility and higher houses, but Martok was not one of them. He had to actively put effort to gain his position and many respect him for it. His ideologies are also vastly different because he doesn’t hail from any of the corrupt houses even to the point where once he got the chancellorship, he kept insisting he doesn’t want it, but that’s exactly what makes him perfect for the role.

      Well to be fair, in the Klingon mythology, the first Klingon male needed a female companion before ever even thinking about killing the Klingon gods and turning the the afterlife into a napalmed war zone. That right there should inform you of how powerful Klingon females are.
      It’s like with the crocodile: the female is the larger and more aggressive of the two sexes, and is more than happy to kill a male trying to make advances on her if she doesn’t like him.

      I don't think that would be necessary. What we really need is more DS9. That show gave us the coolest cardassian, ferengi and klingon-focused episodes of the series, along with the bajoran, dominion, trill and federation-centered episodes. That's what was so amazing and unique about that show: By making its setting stationary, they could focus more on the regular characters and places, just like its competitor, Babylon 5. I'd have loved to see two more seasons of DS9.

    Martok really is the greatest Klingon we are ever shown. Came from humble beginnings, rose through the ranks to eventually lead the Empire, removed the corruption that had plagued it, is honourable but without the recklessness that many other klingons exhibit, he cares for those under his command and about the Empire itself. He respects and understand theKlingon alliance with the federation, he is wise, and shows respect to all those who earn it - even Nog when he stood up to him. He is humble and shows respect to his allies and will always have the backs of those he calls friend. He didn't care about worfs dishonour he inherited from his father, he only judged the man he saw before him.
    Martok truly embodies the very best of the Klingons. He shows us what they could be if they tempered their aggression and purged their corruption but still held true to their warrior culture ideals. Even when they prepare for Worfs wedding, he understands that the others are not klingon and may not be physically able to endure what they go through, but respected their desicion to do it for worf.

    The scene at the DS9 airlock when Sirella arrived spoke volumes.
    It's probably the first time in nearly 3 years that Martok has seen his wife, since Martok was apparently abducted by the Dominion prior to the events in the Season 4 opener "The Way of the Warrior".
    She comes off non-plussed... commenting about Martok's waistline & graying hair.
    Martok responding without missing a beat "My deterioration is proceeding apace..."
    And yet, still glad to see her as she's headed off to meet Dax.
    Part of me wishes there'd been some backstory to Sirella... like Martok meeting her parents.
    Was Martok's father-in-law in the Klingon Defense Force also? Or a politician?
    Did he approve of Martok's interest in Sirella?
    Martok's wedding... was there drama?
    I bet even a novel on the subject would be an interesting read.

    As a man who has been married before, I can understand Martok's position. I dont think he's pussy-whipped. Spouses do have boundaries....or should. Its the man who should enforce them.

    Worf declaring something as "prejudiced and xenophobic" really doesn't sound like him. It sounds more like something an ivory tower Federation-born citizen might say. And Martok seems to gently rebuke him without getting angry. In fact it seems Martok is of both Worf's and his wife's mind in this episode, expressing both without fully favoring one.

    Worf does have a sense of humor, but because he was raised by Humans and is virtually the only Klingon on his ship or DS9, hence a lot of cultural mishaps occur around his stern-ness. Martok on the other hand has been around Klingons (and married) in a great house for many years-no misunderstandings of what is funny :)

    Klingons raised by Russians won't necessarily give the result you expect. Some become introverted, dour, stoic philosophers with a knack for the odd timely zinger.

    I wonder if the reason why Sirella doesn't like Worf has to do with some prior history with the House of Mogh.

    • @TentaclePentacle
      @TentaclePentacle 2 роки тому +1

      sirella doesn't like worf because worf is not much of a klingon. Plus worf messed up their son, took his knife and dishonored him.

      It's probably to do with the kind of Klingon attitude that sees Worf and there's a remark about his "child's uniform" not that long after.

    • @BrotherDerrick3X
      @BrotherDerrick3X 5 місяців тому +1

      @TentaclePentacle a number of Klingons have said that Worf wasn't much of a Klingon. They have one thing in common. They're all dead.
