Dang, son! Your reaction at the top, so raw, such joy, brought me to tears. Especially knowing what would follow so soon after.. Such a great ride. Thank you.
The raw emotion at the top. It truly revealed just how much relief you had that it was over. Knowing what can happen on that mountain. Relief, pride, joy, excitement, accomplishment, adrenaline, and then...horror and sadness, and feeling like it could have just as easily been you... I don’t know how you held together all those emotions at one time. I really wish it didn’t have to be so bitter sweet...you rode your ass off!! Congratulations!!!
After racing for years and with many trophies, I drove up the Peak last summer in a Ford Expedition, and, could not believe how sick this road is. I was scared to death in an SUV....I just cannot imagine the courage and strength these people have. Don't die before you have a chance to climb this mountain.
OMG what a ride! It is more like a MX ride how bumpy it is! Mad respect! And as someone already said, the reaction at the end is so RAW... it shows how much you put into every millisecond of that ride! Dang!
That was impressive! I wish in my youth I had the skill, nerve and determination to ride a motorcycle like that. His emotions at the top were awesome. Congratulations on the record. RIP Carlin!
Loved every minute of that roller coaster ride! From straight ripping and nailing the turns, to the butt pucker moments avoiding the guardrail, and what seemed like backing it down just a smidge on the bumpy top section. My favorite has to be the raw emotion once past the finish line. Love seeing Fillmore coming to congratulate you. Once you hear the actual time your emotions overtook me some and I teared up. I can only imagine the amount of focus that mountain demands. You can hear it in your breathing as all those emotions come out at once. Congrats yet again on an awesome ride and the new record. R.I.P. Carlin
It's amazing how you can come off from being so focused onto pure relief and joy so fast. Well deserved, and he looked amazing from my point of view when I was there.
In memoriam Carlin Dunne, the GOAT on the PPIHC. Fantastic ride by Rennie Scaysbrook. I rode the PPIHC on a similarly gorgeous day in early June this year, at a far more leisurely pace, that mountain is bloody scary!
Congratulations Rennie. You put everything on the line for this result and worked so hard. Totally understand if you walk away on top. Cheers from down under👍🇦🇺
I only learned Carlin existed 2 days ago and for all the die hard fans anx everyone that loved him im truly sorry for your loss he seemed like an amazing dude and one hell of a racer! This type of racing here is epic to say the least and its so full of passion m hooked for life!
Bloody knew you would do it this year bud. A massive congrats despite the lose of one of the elite, you done him, yourself and all the fans proud, keep it up!
Great Ride. Looked like a Handful coming into those Hairpins after the Big Squirt between them. The Aprilia sounded beautiful as well. After his previous disappointments it was good to see him get the record.
Great job. Interesting to hear you wanted a more compliant setup. I remember watching your reviews for motousa and cyclenews for the KTM Super Duke 1290 (and other streetfighters), and didn't realise how quick you were. Hearing a local accent in American content always throws me a bit as well.
I’ve just visited Pike’s Peak today. Last 3 miles had to take a bus, as there’s limited parking up top due to the construction of the new visitor’s center. We didn’t really do much at the peak still got super dizzy!! So Rennie, how the f... do You deal with pressure changes in Your ear during such a fast ascent? How about dizzyness? Amazing!! Kudos again.
OMG! This is truly emotional, knowing what happened soon afterwards! Nothing is taken away from Rennie's stunning achievement. Goddam that is scary even sitting here in my chair. 👍 But we will still remember Carlin and his potential time forever! 😔
10:23 Rip Carlin Dunne.Gone with the thing that he love to do.. Goggle it The hour without media: Pikes Peak Hill Climb shuts down press after Carlin Dunne's crash
Congrats on your victory Rennie! Outstanding riding. Fantastic camera positions too. I especially love the one on the left front corner. I got to watch intently to how the ohlins was behaving. Were you completely comfortable with the setting? I thought i noticed a few times when she wanted to start a little head shake as you drove out of a turn. Steering damper? LoL, I'm no racer, just a rider and enthusiast. That moment starting at 5:42 - great save! Thank you, and the whole team, for this video. My condolences to all who knew and loved Carlin Dunne. So sorry to lose a fellow rider.. RIP
CO native here... BTW, the drop-off at the corner at 06'20" in the video is called The Bottomless Pit. If you go off that one, you have time to call someone love before you... well...
Do you think the organisers decision to permanently remove bikes from the event was right? Or do you feel that the riders know and accept the risks so it should be their choice like the Isle of Mann TT? (Sorry for the loss of your friend). I think painting the corners an alternating black/white pattern, some air crash barriers or catch nets near big drops, and running more free practice could help make it safer for bikes, but the sand/dust getting blown onto the road will always make the traction vary in unpredictable ways.
Those front shocks are amazing! Gearing and suspension played a huge part in this epic ride to the top ,great riding skills and a little luck always helps though
Has everything switched off but map on the softest sport. Glad I'm not the only one who finds this a nice smooth map! Not sure why the brake reservoir is on the left though?
I noticed that about the reservoir as well. But, that wasn't just in the Sport map. If you watched some of the older videos, there is a guy that that flew from Italy to build custom maps for him. Having just been in Steamboat Springs, CO, I get why. The altitude really saps power. I was having to wring up the RPM's considerably to get the same power, and there was lag - which the guy from Aprilia solved for Rennie. No way he would have that much engine braking like Sport mode generates.
That was for the thumb rear brake. The map says Sport, but in reality, it was all custom. We only had it in Sport as that was the map that got the custom treatment. The ECU was actually a Marelli unit from Italy with a custom throttle and engine brake map.
@@snaphook31 I actually had more engine braking with the custom map we made with Nicola from Italy, but it was only from 9000 rpm to 5000 rpm to help pull me into the corner. From 12,000 rpm to 9000 rpm it had less engine braking and more freewheel, which helped straight-line braking. -- Rennie
@@cyclenews That's really interesting and so dialed in. Thanks for the explanation. BTW, I'm the dude from the Indian place in Buttonwillow that was in town for the Aprilia Racer Days. :) It was great following your progress and that was one hell of a run. Cheers.
How fast could an Indian 750 or Harley Davidson 750 Flat Track Racer Motorcycle with a skilled rider like Jared Mees go on this course? An upright riding position as compared to the road racing leaning forward position.
Exactly My Friend , nice ride , But slightly narrowed Flat Track bar's , I can See IT . Lap Record I didn't know You could get a Lap at The Peak ! How Fast was Your Pass ! Definitely some Rarified Air at the Top and What a View ! We Will Return.
Damn he’s fast! I ride a 1000 and no way could I get up there that fast, for one I’m to big and heavy! Weight keeps me from racing, but not stunting, and I’m a mad scientist on a sport bike, or any bike for that matter! So I know skill when I see it and man this cat can ride! I don’t know how he comes off those corners so hard my bike would go crazy trying to get on the throttle at that much Lean angle even with sticky warm tires! I would love to just cruise to the top!
Dang, son! Your reaction at the top, so raw, such joy, brought me to tears. Especially knowing what would follow so soon after.. Such a great ride. Thank you.

Breathtaking. Sketchy road. RIP Carlin. Congrats on your win and record.
Pikes Peak event needs to be brought back. This is phenomenal. Thanks for sharing.

10min 25 secs into the video is rough, glad he made it through - what a run!
I think that's exactly where Carlin lost control and went off

Christ almighty Rennie! I don't know how you do it. Every corner looks the same AND you have the altitude to deal with! 😯💥👊🏼💥

5:42 got tight, I've seen one of the runs where someone goes over the barrier.
Great rider. I would have dropped it making that turn where he didn't do the second downshift and had to correct
That was actually him who came off in that corner on a KTM 1290 Superduke a year or two prior! :D

I'm confused. Where on a bike can you put balls this big on? Are their special saddle bags to hold them, or just sling 'em over your shoulder?
His Aprilia says"OK, OK, Well i know. Please don't beat me sir."
Daddy would have been very proud!!
scary moment at 10:19!!!
