Good to see Superfast Matt's double-ended Homewrecker holding up in such capable hands.
that thing lol. I wonder how many other wheels could be more comfortable but the designer changed them because they looked too good at stimulating the g-spot.
@@confuseatronicahahaha
@confuseatronica look up an aw11 shift knob... toyota definitely had something in mind on that one
Do these cars use some type of engine braking to help slow off high speed sections and roll the corners..that might be a stupid ? But it sure sounds and looks like it
The fact he was unable to down shift on much of the course, almost to the point of stalling, and yet to still win is testament to the rest of the car, and Robins skill as a driver. Great achievement!
Even he called it a messy run... makes you wonder if a clean one would have been the record
Where exactly did he not have downshifts!?
@@ShowingUStuff:16 for instance. Several other places. Sounds like some shifter issue. Very impressive driving 😮
@@crabapple1974 No. I watched the steering wheel the whole time, gears go down when he shifts down, throughout the course.
That sound u hear, like the gearbox is going to fall apart, is actually the unburned fuel from lifting off the throttle, combusting in the exhaust pipes.
In some other instances, his revs drop low, or low for that engine at least, and that may seem as if he was stuck in a higher gear than he should be in, but hes not; those were his driving errors, and that's what he meant when he said it was a "messy run"! The car was just fine, take another look...
Started having shift problems on Friday. Got a friend to get parts from sadev and fly in Friday night but unfortunately there is likely a bigger issue in the gearbox. Going into engineers corner robin was stuck in 4th instead of 2nd.
Won the event even after nearly stalling out 1/4 of the way up. This thing was a beast.
Here from superfast Matt’s video. Quoting, “Word is Ford spent 7 million dollars on the Supervan. I can’t help but think if someone gave the sendy club 7 million dollars they’d have the outright record and also 6 million dollars” and yeah for sure I agree
With all the gearshifting problems and still winning, this car must be an absolute beast!
The hairpins where there was hesitation, he didn't shift down enough and was in 3rd where 1st would have been ideal.
@@mattio79 He was pulling away in 1st every time from those hairpins, I think the car was having ISSUES going down gears
What a driver! The spirit of never giving up is showcased here in full effect
@@jama211eah, 1:10 is the best example I would say, you can tell that he’s not able to shift down properly because when you see the inside cam, he’s in first like 15-20 ft after the turn.
Any ideas on a possibility of beating the 7:57 record time with the fully operating car?
That you guys won the race on a limited budget and having troubles on the run itself, makes it even better. You did a great job!
Watching this with a fan blowing at me made it so much more realistic
4D
Which fan was blowing you??
Oh man, I want to do Pikes Peak.
Do it!
If you need some peer pressure, I'm your guy!
I mean the old you would have.... You used to be cool.... 😂 - Taz.
Been there. Done that. In Gran Turismo 😄
In the Ka with the doublewide tyres, I hope you mean.
@@katdaddy469Good old Gran Turismo 2! Too bad that they didn't added in GT7...
That anti-lag is violent! I love it. Looks like some time was left on the mountain with the shifting issues but good job yet again!
Thanks! Had the a anti lag cranked to 11
That plasti dip got shredded 9:13 😂 You’ll have to get Superfastmatt to wrap it in alcantara for the 2.0 version haha
I could scan the grips and mill new ones out of rich mahogany.
@@SuperfastMattUltimately it’s the drivers preference. Ask what they want and maybe use something stronger and/or wrap it in a stronger flexible material.
@@SuperfastMatt Mmmm... rich mahogany

Hard to believe that Ari Vatanen was only 2 minutes slower 35 years ago driving a manual shift car on a completely gravel road from the start up to the top….
I mean 25% slower is a lot even with the surface but those old runs were super impressive
Ari Vatanen?...Climb Dance complete with " scandi" flick..gravel road, sun in his eyes 👀 Legendary
I'm an old timer tourist going back to when it was mostly dirt and freaked out at 35 mph. I was then amazed when the Unser's did it in under 14 minutes in 1964...I believe it was a bit shorter (started at the lodge)....but that's to also say I CANNOT fathom that kind of speed on asphalt !
agreed... back in the day speeds like this would have caused me to need to change my shorts!
Gotta say, the event was a lot more interesting when it was a mixed surface race.
@@flurpoidtbf, 364 days of the year the asphalt makes it a much safer and more durable tourist destination. taking away the gravel kind of ruined our fun, but I imagine it has prevented a fair number of accidents over the years.
@@tissuepaper9962 They paved it because the silt from the road base was getting in the creeks and causing fish populations to drop and town water systems to clog. It was pretty much a question of pave it or lose the license to operate. (The road and it's facilities are run like a ski area; it is a private company with permits from the forest service and state.)
Not really. Asphalt is tore up, not maintained despite tries and people only think asphalt comfortable is funny to me considering the comparisons over 40 years. Sierra Club would demand to have people pave the moon if they could then not answer to consequences is one of my jokes after witnessed much.
Bummer that it didn't go as well as planned, but still got the win!
There were some parts of your run that scared the hell out of me just watching it! I was wondering why it sounded like the Wolf was choking during some of the turns, now I know. You, your car and your crew are amazing to manage a win without being able to down shift. I put Tri-Y headers, Gibson performance exhaust and a cold air intake on my 2001 Tacoma, 3.4 liter 4x4 Xtra cab truck to improve performance and fuel economy. I always drive it in it's optimal power range which of course means down shifting as needed. So for the Wolf to push through without running in its power range at crucial moments is just mind blowing. Well done! I loved this video!
Thanks!!
Even knowing you finished, biting my nails here at 1:15 and and a few other spots in suspense haha Cheers for sharing and glad to see you and the team at the top once again, and in better conditions weather wise even if the gearbox wasn't playing how it should 😀 - Taz.
Came straight to this video after listening to you’re ‘tuned in’ podcast with robin today, was so glad to see a mostly trouble free run get put down and Robin blast his way to the top of the mountain! Truely mind boggling stuff!
I have no words to express how cool that was. Just... the perfect combo of an insane speed, out of this world driving skills and a beast of a car. Congrats on first place! Well deserved!
didnt expect to see you here stratzenblitz lol
I had to check the playback speed twice to make sure I wasn't watching this in fast forward. Holy shit
I remember when a large portion of that race was on dirt 🙂
Very impressive driving skills Mr Shute!
My 2001 Highlander loved that dirt part. hard for me to breath at the top maybe it was the wife chocking me had her foot on the dash almost all the whole way. You get to the top and its hard to straighten your fingers out.
This race isn't the same without the dirt section.
@@kyledavidson8712 Agreed.
You guys are clearly good at building a time attack car. Pikes Peak is no joke of a course and to win so many times is incredible. I'd love to see what you could do for the world of rally cross.
My kidneys are aching just watching this. Great driving, nice to see good weather was on hand.
WOAH I CAN ACTUALLY SEE THE RACE NOW.
THANK GOD THE LIVE COVERAGE WAS JUST INTERVIEWS THE WHOLE TIME LOL
They really need live on board feeds to cover this race properly. I understand doing this with the elevation change makes it trickier but someone smart should be able to make it work.
You could cut to the stationary cameras intermittently but the onboard view is what lets you know what is actually going on in the race.
I'm friends with Kyle Heyer the main host for this year's broadcast and he said that the helicopter camera had issues so they couldn't use it for broadcasting. Apparently plans are in the works to make everything .ore robust for next year with more investment into TV infrastructure.
@@82zkartracer nice good to know! For what it’s worth I thought he did a good job. We just needed a lot more racing action lol.
Amazing run. He also left a good 10-15 seconds on the course due to some missed shifts in the hairpins. This run could have easily been sub 8:30? Amazing.
Car had some issues, wasn't his fault.
thats what I said but not with the same jargon! glad to read I wasnt just adding a naive opinion..
Not like I could do any better, but I think he left at least 30 seconds on the table. Wasn't pushing it, with car problems, errors, and general care not to crash. 10 runs back to back in perfect conditions with no car problems and it could be a 7 minute run,.
@@mjodrexactly loads of time lost. And yet still winning. Really shows that he's got the mountain to himself and is in need of a challenger
The thing doesn't like going slow lol
Just superb!!! Well done to the entire team behind this car!!!
Fantastic run, despite the low speed problems. Wish the weather had been this nice in 21' when I was at the race.
I went last year, 100th anniversary and Ken Block was supposed to run his brand new Porsche built specifically for Pike's Peak, the Hoonipigasus. His car had problems and he didn't race that day, and it was like 200ft visibility and below freezing with on and off rain. One of the drivers went off course and it took over 10 minutes before anyone even realized because he hadn't made it to the next checkpoint. Very disappointing, especially considering Block's fate earlier this year.
@@Herpaderp10 The big plus of being there in 21', with the finish line being at Devil's Playground, you could bump into and chat with drivers until the parade. Really fun having guys like Dan Novembre and Randy Pobst pull up camping chairs and watch the race with the fans.
Hoping we get this track in Gran Turismo one day!
Seriously!
It was in Gran Turismo 2 !
@@DavidCaudry Came with a Suzuki Escudo, Pikes Peak edition too if my memory serves me correct :)
@@DavidCaudrylol kindof that version was super short and honestly had very little similarity to the real thing. Also PS1 graphics 😬
It was in Dirt Rally
Time always on the table, but always on the limit. Love this car so much! Can't wait to see what updates yall come up with!
I'm more a fan of the single long shot of the entire run from start to end, but still very beastly and impressive!
Been a couple asks for a single shot. We can upload one with just the main camera too.
@@thesendyclub might as well. It's free views lol
Glorious, keep up the great work Robin and co. at The Sendy Club! You guys are legends!
Great fun watching this run! 😅
We used to go camp at Devil's Playground each year to watch the race and imagine running it ourselves. That was in the 1970s, when it was still a dirt road at the top and they were still running motorcycles as well.
The cop was there at the 8:59 mark to give Robin a speeding ticket.
You can actually hear the anti lag getting less aggressive during the pass. Epic drive!
That's a handful of a drive! I am always surprised by how much of the course is driven off-acceleration...that and those formidable drop-offs!
Thats wild how rough the paving is at the top! Congrats on the win!
It's terrifying to think of racing on that road. They have to do road work / repave every couple of years due to the sheer amount of erosion that happens from all the snow melt. Just a few weeks ago there was over 5 feet of snow at the peak
@@wyattsmith5875 Yep, I was up there exactly one month ago. It looked like the middle of winter.
Freeze/thaw does that. It's why the road was unpaved for so long
Absolutely gorgeous !!
Furiosity level: above and beyond call of duty
Car performance & grip: yes
Overall sensations: goosebumps + 7
You guys are insane. 👏 Awesome work and awesome achievement, again !! 👏
The car is so fast that it made up for the sketchy bits Robin had in the run, and you still won!!
Great work on figuring out the turbo lag with air injection system!!
Thanks for the ride from old New Orleans !
Have you ever experienced sitting in a race car, on the track with a professional race driver behind the wheel YOU KNOW, THIS IS INSANE FAST!!!
Truly an amazing run, drove the hell out of it!
Absolutely amazing, the way this car shoots up the side of a mountain…”It’s a Rocketship!” (Piloted by an incredible astronaut)
W😎W! Thanks for the ride!! Totally Wicked!! 🤯
Such an amazing team of people making this car possible. The solutions thought of on the fly are mind bending. So glad this machine exists!
Thanks Robin, that was cool.
Those views of the cliff to one side and screaming along the "knife" edge is one of the greatest views in all of motorsports! These divers are amazing to do that.
Loved every second of it.
Al Go Rhythm. Matt sent me.🤠 Send it boys.
I didn't realize the road is that rough the last couple miles at the top, wow!
What a rush, oh man would I love a chance to drive that car!!!
That car sounds really satisfying! And acelerates so hard! Congrats !!
Just watched as I ate breakfast before work... I need to re -prioritize my life. Just imagine the energy flowing thru the body after doing something like that , it's gotta be one of coolest things a human can do , riding a open cabin rocket ship built in a garage up a mountain as fast as possible razors edge ....so so cool
Truly an amazing run, drove the hell out of it!. Just superb!!! Well done to the entire team behind this car!!!.
Thanks!
This is so awesome, Pikes Peak truly is one of the greatest racing events ever.
Agreed, It's such a pure form of racing.

Doesn't come close as to when it was all gravel IMHO
@@delrcr05 I do respect your opinion, but I think it does, while before the part gravel made it interesting, the way it is now make it special, there's no challenge like it in the world.
BTW, I do love both, but I do prefer the way it is now.
@@derka_jamesno pure racing is direct competition not time trail.
So good, so cool. I love the racing. Pike's peak is a National treasure and an Icon of "Run What ya' Brung".
That was crazy scary! Had me on the edge of my seat! 😳👍
Just superb!!! Well done to the entire team behind this car!!!. Oh man, I want to do Pikes Peak..
The Van being only 7s slower was the MVP
This run is the best thing happening this year ❤ incredible congratulations to the entire team 👍🏼🏁
you have become one with the machine, and conquered the mountain.. that was a beautiful thing to watch!
out of curiosity, are there any clips available of just the forward facing camera for the whole run...? I would watch that.. and then watch it again..

We can put up a single cam edit too
@@thesendyclub that would be epic! please do.. 🤘

Beautiful driving!! Congrats!!
The car is so good that, despite all the problems with the slow corners, he was able to set this incredible time.
That is badass. It would be cool to see a real time graphic of the speedometer. Great vid.
I've driven it twice in: 93 Toyota 4x4 and an 18 Mustang GT. Both times it gave me the willies on some of those corners and edges where it looks like it drops of the world! At the hair raising speed of 25 mph, I couldn't help gripping the steering wheel way harder than needed. Even watching the video I got a little tingly!
What an absolute Adrenalin blast it would be driving a savage beast of a car like that up a track like that! AWESOME!!
I've made the drive several times as a tourist but wow that's awesome even with shift issues the speed was amazing
Glad to see that it wasn't even a clean run. A few parts where the engine was bogging out, a few sections (like Devil's Playground) where because of public safety he could've push harder, and other section where he was being a bit conservative. So I'm sure he's looking forward to future runs with this rocket ship! Congratulations Robin!
Now this is a race that gets my adrenaline going! So much more interesting than going around in circles. 😅
wild ride...nice job!!
Very impressive! Car is quite a handful😃👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
absolutely awesome video footage!!!!!...well done to Robin the driver, brilliantly driven!!...amazing drive, and that car sounds sick!!!💥👌... love those popping / cracking sounds !!!👌.... fantastic driving it made for a great watch!!!. Many thanks for sharing it!!!..
Congratulations mate!.. cheers 🏁🏆🍺🤠🇺🇸🇬🇧
Those “no guardrail” parts are spooky!
No fall zones
I had no notion that the course was that long and that high up. Awesome
Where can we see a build breakdown??
It’s high up on our todo list.
Good to see someone drive like they have some balls. Well done
1:20 SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED. Absolutely mental, mate. Superhuman.
That dude was hauling the mail.
Awesome drive! Would be a dream to drive Pikes Peak!
Just Insane! Congratulations!
Thanks!!
Insanity never gets old! ❤
That was an impressive wild ride. Well done. It was interesting to see how the elevation affected the turbo so much, and how long it took for the boost to build, and how violent it was when it did. Could see how you were working hard to maintain boost.
That coverage was better than the full day of the “official” Mobile 1 feed.
I wonder what it feels like to do all this. Catching a glimpse of a helicopter following you in the corner of your eye, the pressure of this being the only shot till next year, the forces the car puts on you for the duration, the lack of oxygen etc
What's the helicopter for because the coverage by Mobil 1 didn't use it. This is the best footage of the race I've seen this year
Absolutely beautiful lines and understanding of the track.. Don't know what happened when it was like he pull a kill switch (I'm sure it was the vehicle) and a couple (engine?) bobbles but the way he danced with the course was absolutely incredible!! And the onboard, as well! Love seeing true masterminds of the course.. This man will almost certainly break the all-time records, if nothing else, fuel wise.. Those electrics are coming fast, HOWEVER, driving skill really makes it, all things being equalled.. And, often times not... Great video!! Thanks!
Nice Ride, ...thx
WOW! That car does everything in all capital letters!
Epic brave run mate well done
those straight cut gears are orgasmic
that was freeking awesome :)
Full opposite lock coming out of the hairpins, what a lad!
Look at the snow! Amazing.
Love that Yokohama Advan livery and also incredible climb
I’m watching this while in traffic on pikes peak🙌
I drove that same road in a Toyota Camry doing about 20 MPH. At that time there were no guard rails and I could see the road shoulders drop off into the abyss. I was freaking out the whole time--no clue how this driver did it.
Here from NotAsFastMatt. This is so absolutely wild to watch. Congrats.
Crazy reaction time from the driver! For him to drive at such incredible speed
I've driven that hill with zero pavement, and zero guardrails. Never gonna do it again.
it appears to be fully paved now . haven't been up there for twenty years
