In Carroll Baker’s autobiography Baby Doll, chapter 17 explains what happened that night as they entered the Roxy. It’s an interesting series of the events that evening.
What a fabulous piece of HOLLYWOOD HISTORY. Mrs. Steve Allen A.K.A Jayne Meadows only passed last April 26,2015. She was 95. SO many great moments in this. Loved when Jack Warner says to Jayne,"Now eho R U ? Then Dennis Hopper w/ his date Joanne Woodward. And NATALIE WOOD about 18 & so stunning. Oscar winning composer,Dimitri Tiomkin , the campy Virginia Graham , had a show mainly about Celebrity Gossip called, "Girl Talk." She was a Golden Era Harvey Levin . Mr.& Mrs. ROCK HUDSON that's rare in itself. Too many more to mention. I think there's only 3 still alive, Joanne Woodward, Carroll Baker, & George Stevens Jr. Even the DuMont Network has passed. Where did U find this great video ? Thanks.
Thought Hopper was with Mineo? No, Woodward! before Newman proposed? and when Paul was with the first wife? Natalie with Henry Willson agent to Rock Hudson and RJ Wagner (the man Nat will marry..twice). Tiomkin legitimizes this whole lousy shindig. A genius. Did not see V. Graham. Did her show a couple of times. You were not allowed to say `orgasm`. I did a show a few years later, a radio show, where I say `masturbation`. If she heard it she must have had a fit! I was on the `Girl Talk` show not only with VG but Helen Gurly Brown. Mr. and Mrs. Rock Hudson. Very very rare. Most people will watch this and think Old Hollywood. They will have no idea of the subtext.
Jack Warner, G-d Bless him, used to come to premieres of all his films. AND he greeted guests. When I attended the VIP premiere of `Virginia Woolf` he was there at the gate. This piece of nostalgia is funny inasmuch as not only did I play my own small part but I know enough to reflect upon the tablet from a revisionist viewpoint. One, Hudson`s wife was meticulously referred to as `Mrs` Hudson. We know now Phylllis Gates was a `beard` and doubt the marriage was consummated (Phyllis Gates to Larry King shortly before she passed away (in poverty) Two, Dennis Hopper brings Sal Mineo whom Jayne Meadows thinks is his wife (Minnie?) Three, Elizabeth Taylor is absent. The only one who appears to notice (by her absence) James Dean is missing. Four, Jayne Meadows reacts to a comment about her husband Steve Allen `Oh he`s always working. even works on Sunday`. Allen had the reputation, unknown only to Jayne, of being one of the biggest philanderers in town. Five, there are two glam girls who make a brief appearance. The idea I guess is to give us all hope that one day WE could be up there. Merely an idea. The reality of who gets what is very different, very very different. Five, Carroll Baker is there with husband director Jack Garfein. Garfein was a friend for years but it was only arouind 2010 that I discovered he had been in a concentration camps (Auschwitz as a matter of fact) and was one of Mengele`s orderlies. Baker is Polish Catholic. Jack is Polish Jewish so the marriage is pure American myth. Garfein probably had a number on his arm. I would not know as we were not lovers. He was however, he told me so, encouraged to keep quiet about having been in Auschwitz. This is why for years and years I thought he was merely a nice Jewish boy from Great Neck or the San Fernando (not the song!) Valley.
I think she did the Hollywood premiere the following week EDIT: I Take that back -- just saw another newsreel confirming she WAS there... probably just showed up late like always and thereby missed the Dumont Broadcast lol
1956 was a great year for movies: Giant The King And I The Searchers Around The World In 80 Days Friendly Persuasion The Ten Commandments The Killing War And Piece Anastacia ...
What do you mean? OUtside the Broadway cinema where the film had its premiere!! Surprised to see Jayne Meadows doing the chat as I did not think she was a gossip hen.
Rip To All Those Who We're In This Movie, We Still Miss You All

The year I was born. Man I’m old.
And WHERE was the gorgeous Liz? She gave a hell of a performance in "Giant" and was entering her iconic period.
Where the rest should have been..grieving the death of James Dean....

Sad to know that James Dean didn't live to see this wonderful film. I think his performance was above all the rest
She didn't get an Oscar nom for it. She was great so I don't understand why.
@@elenamena5424It was a diffcult role. His best up to that point.
Very eerie
Very! I was the Holy Ghost. I am the Holy Ghost.

Bittersweet.
Giant is a directorial film.
Back when movie stars looked the part and not like a bunch of drug addicted homeless people like they do today.
True 👍 merry Christmas ✌🏻
1956 was a great year for movies:
Giant
The King And I
The Searchers
Around The World In 80 Days
Friendly Persuasion
The Ten Commandments
The Killing

Anastacia
