This live television drama was performed after he returned to NY after having filmed East of Eden, but the picture as yet had not officially premiered- that was not until March of 1955. He looks wonderful here- his face is full fleshed from eating better, and he's wearing nice clothes. He is very comfortable in front of the camera and his eyes- as usual- are intense, underneath which are those famous dark circles. Good upload, restored to better than original visual quality.
MONIQUE THOMAS THANKS for your insightful information. His appearance in this film clip...as in all of his other film clips and movies... makes it more interesting to watch...he also has lots of male devoted fans...including me...R.I.P. JAMES BYRON DEAN
Monique, thank you for the info. Jimmy does have so much more confident now than in his previous television plays. When I saw Barbara O'Neil listed in the credits, i knew the name but it didn't immediately come to me until I saw her. She played Ellen O'Hara in Gone with the Wind and the hypochondriac wife the Duchesse de Praslin of Charles Boyer in "All This, and Heaven Too"....the big star was Bette Davis. I always thought she had such presence on-screen as she does here.
Pretty engaging stuff! It’s cool to see a short drama like this live, it’s probably close to what watching a theatre play with James would be like. Of course I wanted to watch it for him, and even though it’s hard to attach yourself to characters in shorter dramas like this, he comes off likeable and charming as always. I think Kurt Kasznar and Gusti Huber who plays the couple Alex and Della deserve credit too, when the investigator is questioning them or when they’re deciding what to do with the bracelet, you can see them passionate and nervous. I think I would’ve liked the section with them deciding what to do with the bracelet to be stretched out a little, and some more character development, but overall pretty good, one of the better TV dramas James Dean’s been in. I haven’t seen them all yet but another favourite of my shorts James was in is “Something For An Empty Briefcase”
A different hair style. I think he just cut his hair for this tv show. Thank you for the upload. Love his performance. I didn't know that he played a waiter, and i'm a waiter too, that was so cool...
Remarkable writing. I'm amazed at the quality of acting, not only from James Dean but all the actors. Its good to see him playing something other than edgy, troubled youth. We witness lives dulled by wealth, some to the point of bickering while common people intermingle, dedicated to their tasks. Then something happens that causes those most dedicated to question each others' honors. The story is taut throughout but at intervals pulls back just enough. I'm sure it had viewers in late 1954 glued to their TV sets. Not me, I was one year old! In the next seven years that followed I came to know that popular tinkling piano melody. Many musical artists of that era had their renditions of it.
He does 'force' emotions sometimes, but was definitely a natural, and certainly had charisma. I think he would have become one of the greats. I guess we'll never know, as he will forever be remembered as an icon of misspent youth.
I've seen pretty much all the television footage that has surfaced along the years and i can guarantee he had it all and was on his way to become truly great, he put so much great work on tv and he hadn't reach his prime yet, he died at only 24 and Brando started out in movies at 26/27 already. I agree with you that he had some forced moments, but he also had some moments that were just plain masterpieces, like in Something for an empty briefcase or The Dark Dark Hours, He was going to be a master of the craft within a few years
James Dean here playing his customary character. The rawness of youth struggling to acustom itself to the maturity the world demands. In this story presenting it in the context of Dean as a vulnerable young man working as waiter in the dining room of an elite resort. Where being a good waiter is considered an achievement on the level of receiving a Nobel Prize.
James Dean and Kurt Kasznar were both wonderful. Kurt was born in Austria, was Jewish came to the USA during the 1930's. served in the US army during WW2. He has a long, successful career in many movies.
Lea Vohn UA-cam can be a magnet for lost vintage film clips, movies, and videos. THE MODERN WORLD HAS TRANSPORTED US TO LOST AND FORGOTTEN TIMES...Thanks, You Tube
This was not written by John Steinbeck tho. That's the difference. Nobel Prize and Literature winners simply deliver better stuff: “And now that you don't have to be perfect, you can be good.” ― John Steinbeck, East of Eden.
James Dean Has Reached Immortality, Forever Remembered In His TV Shows, Plays, And His 3 Movies. The GREATEST ACTOR EVER.
I love his smile, it's so childlike. He looked amazing on b/w tv but nothing can compare to the color of his eyes on technicolor.
Agreed!
Blue Eyes 👍🏼😎
There's a colorized version of this show here on YT, check it out, much better to watch
@@fernandomaron87 Would you be able to provide a link for that? I’d like to see it, but i can’t find it anywhere. :)
I wish we had quality acting and shows like this today
I agree. This is genuinely enjoyable and interesting television
They wrung SO MUCH drama out of the most innocuous things, I felt. The "2nd hand" stuffiness of the conventional 1950s sort of got annoying
I've noticed early James Dean was HEAVILY used for upholding the status quo in these televised plays. There's quite a few of them on UA-cam.
That old fat man displayed some UNASSAILABLE chops at the end, though.

Oh, that he lived!!! He could have been Hollywood's great actor!!
brilliant to have these kind of things uploaded, many thanks
Hello Charlie my sweety has the same surname as yours Richard ison

James Dean 4-Ever!
His acting style was so ahead of its time! However I think the live recordings made it seem more realistic as well with slip ups.
James Dean R.I.P we will always remember you gone but never forgotten 😔
James Byron Dean is my favorite classic actor, who was in three movies and tv shows.
These playhouse short stories are excellent! Enjoyed very much! James Dean fan for sure!
Dean exudes confidence. Once again, the show stealer. He's also pulled out more chairs for people to be seated than any other actor in history.
He does 'force' emotions sometimes, but was definitely a natural, and certainly had charisma. I think he would have become one of the greats. I guess we'll never know, as he will forever be remembered as an icon of misspent youth.

He was a great actor I remember him so bad he died so young

But best known for his role on LAND OF THE GIANTS....
James Dean war symbolisch für die Revolution der Jugend gegen die Erwartungen der Erwachsenen.
superbe james dean
1950s tv was brilliant . James Dean looks very young in this ' must have been b-4 east of Eden.
No! After Eden :-)
He wasn't smoking as much most likley
I hear it stunts growth. @@tardisruthwood2772
I think he got this gig because of East of Eden.
@@budbrando that's a myth, childhood trauma, stunts growth
Handsome 💕💕💕💜💋👍🏼😎
All that talent gone too soon! I always wonder what parts he would have played instead of other actors.
He is so cute love this thank s
Watching in 2023 ,
It makes me sick that we lost out so early
Even as a waiter HE screams cool
Thank you for uploading!
I didn’t expect to enjoy this so much; such dramatic tension, fine acting, and a pre-fame James Dean- what’s NOT to like!…
Ooh Jimmy🦋
I don`t think i`ve ever seen Jimmy so happy.
i dont know if i would call it happy, he looks very vurnerable
don't think he was acting. just being cool. like nobody can. he had that.
he was so cool than i am die
What do u mean?
cool film
The Acting In This TV Show Is 100% Better Than EVERYTHING Out Now Days.
Amazing. Be good to get the 1080 or even 720 version instead of the 144 pixellated version though.
Dean had cut his hair by himself during this recording, no joke
Billy Shepard do you have any other memories?
The same Sam Hall who wrote the Dark Shadows screenplays.
would have liked to see the commercials
Which commercials ?!
Holy crap, the curtain lady sounds, acts and kinda looks like my English teacher! It's uncanny!
I've learned the people I cater to prefer hotels were the lost is found very quickly.
Dean must have made some good funds on TV.
Sad loss....Alec Guinness should have stopped him more earnestly when he had the chance...even though he wasn't a knight then...We all lost
Enjoyable
Leave it to a woman to get you in trouble like this lol. James Dean was a cool cat.
These r Morality show's aimed at youth for those rich enough to own a TV. Probably 10% of population.
I want to be loved like she loves Alex

I bought the DVD's :-)
The phony accent's embarrassing. James Dean is great though. Very natural.
Wäre er nicht verunglückt,wär er heute vergessen.
I doubt it.
Is that Zero?
Reminds me of brad Pitt
Dean had a flat back of the head.
can you put sub please ? ^^

i idolise Jimmy but this has to be one of the weakest most boring scripts ever..really difficult to watch imo

Besides JD acting was terrible
You mean over-dramatic acting by the other actors? Yep.
Wow this is really bad!
