FYI, "Blooper Surfing Safari" is a reference to "Surfin' Safari" by the Beach Boys which is theorized to mean "hunting the perfect wave" not an actual safari.
"It's out of the player's control which [quarterframe] will take precedence when landing from a jump" Skill issue, it's fully deterministic... as long as you know exactly where you started your waterslide, how you accelerated during it, which frame you started to hover, and how long you hovered...
I have things to say about this video 1) The editing is good, the shot were the guy is seated in a seat and the camera zooms out across the blooper room was really cool (at 10:55), very creative 2) The humor is actually funny, not like a "pleasant" funny, more like in an "actually funny" way 3) The subject is obscure but also interesting, involving many well-known speedrun factors such as TAS, checkpoints (stapple of race games) and glitches 4) I was surprised at 0:50, the voice is EXACTLY as I imagine this Pianta's voice to be. It fits exactly how I imagine it
Sick video Trey, i know it sounds kinda silly but i always blown away by how cool the Y turn to the loading zone was when i was younger. The little subtleties in movement make SMS top tier
Really love your unique style of editing, and really enjoyed learning more about the history of this level (shoutouts to packattack). It was cool seeing my old 2014 time pop up too, I remember both me and Scrap trading WR on that level multiple times back in the day, and I think he was the first person to sub 20 seconds there. Good times! Awesome video as always, looking forward to the next one!
It's called a "safari" because "Big Daddy" is a hunter of the most dangerous game of all. He claims his trophies by luring unsuspecting tourists into the death trap known as blooper surfing.
the editing on this is absolutely beautiful, oh my god... every little detail is great. like, you didn't have to make the letters in tas rotate, you could've just moved them in straight lines. but you did it anyway ...except the lack of captions. youtube has a feature that lets you generate captions based on a script, you should use that
The editing in this video is spectacular, I love these documentary style videos you do, whether its about greater concepts like entire categories or ILs like King Boo, Pianta Rescue, and blooper surfing. Always a joy to see these pop up.
Haha Noki Doki coming in with the save every time. he helped me learn how to mod Sunshine, and that's how I learnt about the blooper checkpoints myself. I like to help spread that knowledge to new runners. :)
I figured out on my own that pressing forward on the blooper makes you go top speed. Mostly because I was a kid and it made sense that you'd press forward to forward. When I read guides about it out of frustration from repeatedly dying in Rico 6, I had no idea what they were talking about with the different speeds since they were all the same to me. I didn't figure out what I was doing for the longest time. Literal years, probably upwards of a decade, went by before I finally figured out that you don't actually have to press forward on the blooper to go forward. You can imagine how happy I was to try that on the slow one and not immediately die when I hit the wall, and, you know, actually have some control over the damn thing.
"Surfin' Safari" is the title of a Beach Boys single and their first album. It's a travelogue of popular surfing spots in California. I feel pretty confident that the name of Rico 2 is a Beach Boys reference
I think of each of the bloopers as ice cream flavors! The strawberry blooper is the fastest and the most popular among your friend group! The vanilla blooper is the most… vanilla… and the mint blooper is (although the most unpopular) undoubtably the best!
dude you are an insanely good and creative video editor. this is really good content. please keep your personality and high quality up. thanks for this.
I wondered why UA-cam recommended me a Mario Sunshine video out of nowhere before I watched this ....And then I heard the hot wheels Velocity X music and went "yeah this video was made for me"
As someone who loves your Pinatas In Trouble IL video, I cheered every time Fech was mentioned! Also, absolutely love your editing/presentation style in the last couple of uploads!
I personally always knew to pick the green blooper, but that’s because I grew up with the guide that told me the stats. Funnily enough, though, it only mentioned the control stick speed ups for green specifically. Speaking of secret info that the guide just told me, while my interest in speedruns stops at watching these technical breakdowns, the guide mentioned how I could theoretically reach Pianta Village the second I drop into Delfino Plaza for the first time. Never pulled it off, but getting that info there instead of just speedruns locked it in my head as something I want to do someday. Edit: oh, and there was an entire section of screenshots of Mario sleeping in funny spots. Ending with Mario under water with the glitch with no further context.
These videos are the best. So entertaining and I learn stuff I never thought I would want to know, but here I am explaining all the cool things I learned to my friends… keep up the great videos!!
“Oh it was weegee? Okay never mind. I believe it” lol that’s a great line.
And then Mario shows up angry and brandishing, having FoundYourGun
FYI, "Blooper Surfing Safari" is a reference to "Surfin' Safari" by the Beach Boys which is theorized to mean "hunting the perfect wave" not an actual safari.
Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted them to turn this course into a Mario Kart track.
20 years later, I still kinda want that.
So funnily enough, there was a custom track for the blooper race in Double Dash created by tarsa129 a few years ago!
It's been a custom track in MKWii since 2016, created by Atlas, and just a week ago Waltz made a new port with updated visuals
That'd be amazing, i wish nintendo would do that.

My genuine reaction to the green blooper being able to speed up:
“That’s so fucked.”
Me who didn't know about speedup and always chose the purple blooper because even with that, the time limit is barely achievable:
Love it when people leave the bloopers in the final edit
i just got the joke. 6 minutes later.
@@WD_RatLadI didn't get it til I read this comment section again, wp
Honestly when I wrote this I did so fully acknowledging that the joke would very easily fly over most people's heads
@@clarfontheyit’s funny because the devs never intended for the joke to be up there in the first place
I wonder how long it will take someone to explain the joke.
"It's out of the player's control which [quarterframe] will take precedence when landing from a jump"
Skill issue, it's fully deterministic... as long as you know exactly where you started your waterslide, how you accelerated during it, which frame you started to hover, and how long you hovered...
Noki really out here like, "You're just not trying hard enough 4Head" 😭
I will never get tired of going down the rabbit hole that is Mario Sunshine's spaghetti code.

It’s actually insane you guys didn’t know the exact locations of the checkpoints for so long wow
i had been sayin this before they were published
Its an above average day when there's a new video from AverageTrey
Yeah, big w here
Should've included a blooper reel
there’s definitely a next time
ew you want to reel a blooper
The green blooper actually being the best blew me away. I had no idea that the speeds actually worked like that!
This editing is insane, keep up the fantastic work!
love how the back of the GOAL banner is just a y-axis reversed texture of the front
I think the safari part of the name comes from The Beach Boys song “Surfin’ Safari”
I can't believe you got a giant rat to do the pianta voice
Why is Trey still in jail with Mario? Come on, guys. We gotta go post bail for him.
idk there's pretty chill vibes in here tho
I got arrested too.
For trying to post bail with counterfeit coins.
I am appreciating the largeness of the area, respectfully.
the edit at 10:57 is sick
Sick video Trey, i know it sounds kinda silly but i always blown away by how cool the Y turn to the loading zone was when i was younger. The little subtleties in movement make SMS top tier

oh yeah I couldn't find much on the early history of blooperless ILs aside from what I could find on cyberscore and those few runs lol
The name blooper surfing safari is likely a reference to The Beach Boys song Surfing Safari. You may redirect questions to them XD
Editing and extra tidbits of knowledge were actually insane.
It's called a "safari" because "Big Daddy" is a hunter of the most dangerous game of all. He claims his trophies by luring unsuspecting tourists into the death trap known as blooper surfing.

Your videos are charming and energetic yet chill and understated. Legit in love with your delivery
next episode being "Rico Reds Risky Random Race"?

Why does trey not have more subscribers? Hes a friggin god among men.
Your editing is so good, keep it up!
Trey, this content slaps. Please keep making it
No wonder these were so hard, they were set in the Secret Level World.
You go to great lengths just to talk about Pack Attack.
Wait, every Trey video is a pac-attack video? Always has been...
I love how long y'all went just "feeling for" the checkpoints lmao.
Insane how committed you guys are for a game thats Over 20 years old
Agree with all the comments praising the writing, pacing, and editing of this video. Pure joy injected directly into the forehead.
Awesome! Didn't think rico 2 would actually have this much lore lol
the quality and editing of this video is off the charts! very well made
It seems obvious now that i think about it but i had not really realised that the ridable bloopers are just reworked SM64 kooper shells.
This editing is so funny
Mario games committing actual murder on you for losing a race was always the weirdest thing, but thankfully Odyssey got rid of that
Loved this video and the deep looks at Sunshine missions! I first played this game nearly 20 years ago and I never knew about any of this blooper tech
this video reawakened my blooper crashing ptsd thanks
The editing in this video is spectacular, I love these documentary style videos you do, whether its about greater concepts like entire categories or ILs like King Boo, Pianta Rescue, and blooper surfing. Always a joy to see these pop up.
i get so excited every time i see a new video from you! thanks for another good one trey!
Another banger surfing video for us surfing dudes. Thanks trey
Can't believe a message I sent in 2016 would get featured in a trover vid you love to see it
You probably make the most well edited videos on this platform. I’m dead serious your videos are amazing
Haha Noki Doki coming in with the save every time. he helped me learn how to mod Sunshine, and that's how I learnt about the blooper checkpoints myself. I like to help spread that knowledge to new runners. :)

I really love your videos man I crave good sunshine content

i love the editing everytime you were just chilling in a chair, great stuff
Was literally just binging your videos and you uploaded this, amazing
I have been binging your content again lately, so this is some great timing. Please, I crave more. I could listen to you talk about SMS for days.
i loved this very well edited episode , thank you
The Large Father of Blooper Surfing needs to make a comeback in the next Mario game.

Trey you're editing skills are going through the roof, keep it up mate
Holy shit Trey, seeing you chill in the levels is so much fun haha

Who would've thought there would be so much to learn just from a blooper surfing minigame lol Incredible!
These videos deserve way more views just for the quality of editing alone.
so glad trey gave up narrating and let bounceyboy be the one behind the camera for his videos
Good work, Kao
video has some absolutely surreal editing, good stuff
#1 Best dinnertime youtuber
Never thought I'd see the 20XX nomenclature for anything that didn't involve the Fox Melee Promised Land, but great video!
20+ years and I just find out now that the different colored bloopers have different innate speeds :0
dude I seriously love your editing style
Super interesting and crazy stylish presentation
One day, we will squash those quarter frames 💪
Great video as usual. Always learn something new.
_Unironically I do like your voice. Give us more of these specialized vids, they're fantastic Bud! 🤘😎💜_

heck yeah fantastic video as always

I still eagerly await the day when AverageTrey upgrades his title to BeyondAverageTrey. Great stuff as usual.
Trey you're the best speedrun UA-camr atm and you made the right choice with the shaved head bearded look. keep it up brother man.
Great video Trent. Keep it up!
I love your longer videos, but these do feed my hunger quite well indeed
You activated my trap card! Your life points will now drop below sub-16.
At least I assume I was hearing the life point counter from yu-gi-oh
YUP lol
I'ma comment this quickly, Squid Games! That is all.
IS THAT A SPLATOON REFERENCE 🦑🦑🦑🦑🗿🦑
SQUID GAMES AIN'T NO GAMES‼️
That was a phenomenal video. Thank you so much.
