the pacing in the first 500 episodes is pretty good in my opinion and the animation and art styles in the first 500 episodes is some of my favorite of all time, then from 520~ to 750 its not that great but not as bad as you may hear but the production value picks up at around episode 750 and then REALLY picks up at 890 with top tier animation

    • @bigfloppaenjoyer4837

fax lowkey they couldve done better with the animation at dressrosa but it was still great at some occasions like kyros's fight against diamante that had pretty good animation but then we move to a fight like franky's and senor's and it just goes downhill

    • @AgeofJP
      @AgeofJP 10 місяців тому +3

I honestly can't say the anime got any better after 890 just because the animations did, because with that exact change in style they also became it's own entity...Toei doesn't adapt "One Piece" anymore in almost all of these standout moments but rather create what I like to call "Toei Piece".
One Piece isn't Dragon Ball yet Toei tries their best to make it that, with over the top feats that simply aren't canon anymore, literal beam clashes, an abundant over-usage of visual effects and distortions, and goofy sound effects literally taken from DBZs sound library...all of which are not One Piece but Toei-original additions for the sake of self marketing (it's no longer "we want to give you One Piece" but rather "check out what our animation team can do") and to excuse not fixing the most glaring problem which is the pacing...which is no better now than it was at it's worst (Dressrosa), in fact even worse in a way since previously they dragged everything out but now they do that and additionally intertwine filler into canon material (which wasn't an issue since they entered the Grand line)
But now many people seem to not care about it as they are so distracted stroking their animation-boner. I get it, the scene look epic...but that's literally it. Is that worth sacrificing a faithful adaptation for? And if you think it is, can you really claim that you truly care for "One Piece"?
In my case they absolutely ruin the story for me...the story I love the most and follow for 20 years now since the first episode premiered in my country.
It's like I've been a catholic One Piece-ist my whole life and now I'm witnissing how Toei created a protestant movement that takes a huge dump on all the values I cherished in it to propagate *their* ideas in the name of *our* Lord Oda

@@AgeofJPbro you are trying to disguise yourself as “woke,” I get what you mean by “toei-piece” but it in no way takes away from the world. You can still be involved in one pieces deep storyline while enjoying fights with spiced up special effects. Oda himself has stated he’s not the best at drawing fights especially as he gets older. I think it’s cool that toeis taking the reins a little and adding their pizazz to it. The filler can be terrible at times I.e. Prometheus saving big mom in the water. The wonderful thing about how Oda's villain writing is that, like ya'll mentioned in the video, Oda takes the time to allow fans to know how the villains become the way they are. At the same time though, while he gets you to understand how the villains came to be, he does it in such a way that you understand, but you don't excuse their actions. Like Doflamingo, it makes sense why he turned out that way, but you still don't give him a pass for killing his own father. And without spoiling anything, Doflamingo is not an isolated incident. He's certainly one of the fan favorites, but almost all of the villains get their time to shine and we learn what makes them tick. And that's not even getting in to how much work is put into the other non-villains of the series. Excited to see if you guys take up the journey; it's well worth it once you make the commitment.

What you said about watching/reading it at your own pace is so true. Lagging behind for a few episodes is an easy thing to catch up on for a shorter series, but one of this magnitude? You're only priming yourself to lose interest if you try to cram as much of it as fast as possible, bc you're not giving it the attention and time it deserves. Hell, One Piece is in my top 3 favorites, and I've had times where I go off it for months or over a year even, and come.back to it later to catch up. If you start from episode 1, and by the end of Arlong Park you haven't realized the potential and why people fell in love (and why Superman is the only comic book that One Piece has NOT had more lifetime sales than, for an idea of how crazy that is Superman started in like 1939 and One Piece started in the 90s) then you won't like it. I just binge the last two arcs after everytime a new arc finishes in the anime. So excited for Wano! Setiously, take the anime/manga at your own pace. Some parts you will need to step away for a minute to digest then other times you are so excited for what happens next you can't help but to binge.

I started watching Bleach in 2006 and it lasted until 2012 if my memory serves me right. Now Bleach is back again after a decade of waiting for the last arc. Something has changed in those 10 years. Technology, execution so it's still the same story but a little something different.
I watched Naruto from the beginning of the premiere of the second season aka Shippūden from 2007 and watched it until the end and so until 2017. 10 years of watching. Boruto I'm not able to watch because it's something different. Different times, different atmosphere. One Piece I started watching in 2013-2014, I don't remember exactly. I still watch it to this day. I've been watching One Piece for about 10 years now. I'm not old so Dragon Ball I started watching as a child when it was aired on one of the channels in Europe. We even have a saying that at 3 or 4 pm in the afternoon there is silence outside and zero movement because everyone was watching Dragon Ball on TV. I watched it in the 90s, then in the 2000s as a teenager, and I still watch it today when a new season comes on. Unfortunately, you can see some differences in atmosphere and art style. It's really one thing to experience the fate of the characters with bated breath when you wait a week for an episode, and it's a little different to perceive the work of art when, like, for example: my buddy watches 30 episodes a day.
Just like I guess some people watch soap operas that last decades like The Bold and the Beautiful. They get to live with the characters and care about their fate. Such a journey, wow. All this anime are fantastic. I am often not critical, and I am rarely disturbed by anything. I accept the plot and everything in the anime as it is. I often see people criticizing anime, attaching themselves to the smallest details. I just have it so that I accept many problems. Maybe it's some kind of defensive reaction so that I don't spoil my perception of the whole thing.
I often hear the opinion of people that he did not like the later seasons, that this anime ended with the first season. After that, it's a different story.
I treat the work as a whole and rate it as a whole.
    --------------------------------
OP is one of the most interesting adventures I have come to know. I'm watching events unfold as my favorite characters develop. And I like most of the characters. Usually when I watch anime I like more than 90% of the characters. I root for anyone who doesn't annoy me. It's amazing what emotions these episodes can bring out in a person. You keep your fingers crossed that no one dies, that certain characters finally stop suffering. Then when it's all over you breathe a sigh of relief. We laugh at their jokes, cry along with them, and feel such inner anger when something bad happens and feel such feigned heroism when someone manages to win a tough battle. Something beautiful. And all the girls so beautiful ;o Fortunately, I don't collect pillows with girls printed on them. I'm just a regular dude that really like watching anime.
    --------------------------------
I already like the manga less due to the fact that it doesn't have a great soundtrack and amazing and wonderful Japanese voice actors. These people are amazing. It doesn't surprise me to say that unfortunately Japanese people work too much, they overwork themselves which is unfortunately part of their culture. But the results of their hard work can be seen at every turn. In my country (Poland) we dub cartoons and animated films like Shrek. We are famous for incredibly high quality dubbing but we don't get behind anime because simply due to the big difference in cultures it never works out well. You simply have to be Japanese to get it right. Just like our The Witcher (video games) blend perfectly with Polish voice actors. That Slavic atmosphere will never be conveyed by an actor speaking English. The difference in culture, it's not a matter of skill because there are talented voice actors in every country. That's why I quite critically (I gave 7/10) rated One Piece live action on Netflix. It's an okay tv adaptation but i can't feel the Japanese spirit and atmosphere in it.

I check out a lot of reactors who watch One Piece and one thing I've noticed is that very few of them do not like it from the start. That is, most reactors are pleasantly surprised by how good it is to start with because a lot of the fandom keeps saying "if you can get to episode x then it's good" but no, it's good from the start. It just gets _better_ - and that's what people find out when they start it. That and no-one is prepared for the insane charisma that Luffy has. Every one is like "wtf, who is this guy, wait, omg he's dumb and hilarious!" XD

@@Maybehaha755 This girl has absolutely watched it multiple times and while it has some slow parts, watching the eps back to back in a group is fine and fun. It's only when you watch it week to week that the pacing issues really bother you.
Fillers are better than most, the music is lit, the Voice Acting is so good and watching the styles of the anime change over time is a lot of fun. If the worst thing you can say about the anime is that the pacing is wack in some areas (and let's be real, it's really only recaps at the start of eps and few slow parts in the 500s and 800s that are the big issue... out of 1000+ eps) then you talking crap if you're calling it bad.
The anime is great as a whole with a few weaker bits here and then way later down the line that aren't even that fucking bad.

the anime is literally unwatchable at one point, onepiece has something worse than filler, its padding and its unbearable. not to mention that the animation dips a lot here and there, plus the shitty soundeffects they keep reusing, the onepiece anime is inconsistent as fuck, it is nice at the start and then at the end of wano but it IS that bad.

No-one watches One Piece for the animation, of all things, first of all.
Second of all, the 5-10 slow episodes do not ruin the rest of the experience of the anime. Like, seriously, it does not take much to skip forward past a few small parts if you're that fucking impatient, but on my 5+ rewatches I've never felt the need to because _It's Fucking Fine_ .

For Better or For Worse was a daily comic by...some Canadian lady. I liked it a lot, it showed up in our American newspapers.
but, it was real time about this fictional family. the characters aged, stupid plots got introduced, by the end, there was this 30-35 year old story told daily with the same family, the kids had grown up, the parents were retiring.
One Piece reminds me of that in some ways.

You don’t need to know everything when you start One Piece. Just jump in, and ride the wave. It’s better not knowing so you get a genuine reaction. My advice is read the manga. It’s easier to catch up if that’s what you want. Also I feel like the east blue saga is better in the manga format. I could be biased though since I’ve been reading the manga since I was in 4th grade. I’m almost 30 now lol. Anime, and manga is cool. One Piece is the only one I follow. You two should check out the new live action trailer. The show looks great, and frankly that would be a great starting point. 8 episodes starting off, and it’s a whole new story. Of course it’s One Piece, but the live action is meant to tell the story in a new way for non anime/manga people. I can’t wait personally. I’m going into it viewing it as a whole separate series. The world looks amazing in real life. I really think the Netflix live action is going to be a hit because it’s a unique world we’ve never seen on television/movies/streaming. Netflix knows if it’s a hit they have at least a decade of content.
