The thing with Guts (he's from a manga called Beserk) is most of his story is so overwhelmingly dark that any anime adaptation obv has to scale it back and censor or often times it will just skip over stuff. I'd say the general opinion is every anime adaptation of Beserk is not the best in terms of staying true to the source material. However, if you guys are one to read definitely give the manga a read. If One Piece didn't exist, I'd say Beserk or Vagabond is my favorite all time manga.

The Berserk manga is full of so many beautifully drawn panels. They’re full blown paintings of black and white. Absolutely gorgeous art.

Berserk is peak fiction literally... Its inspired thousands of many other amazing story's out there. Elden Ring for example gets a lot of things and ideas from Berserk's world and Elden Ring is considered one of the best games created.
