They're both great actresses. What amazes me about Meryl Streep is she can play any type of character known to man. Her duplications of accents is just as amazing as her acting.
Oh yeah, I remember when people heard Cher was going into this movie, they thought it was a joke or something. This turned out to be a breakout performance that showed she could transcend her public persona as the long hair flipping ex-wife of Sonny Bono. I forgot I was watching Cher. She should've won an Oscar for this. It's a shame that Cher kind of just disappeared after Moonstruck.
I absolutely love this movie! This and Mask The Rocky Dennis Story... Cher is a amazing in both movies.. I love Cher and Meryl's chemistry in Silkwood.. What
I'm crushed that I can't rewatch Silkwood and Mask now that I'm older. I really am grieved by the loss of these absolute masterpieces. Not shown in the US.
SAME HERE!!! I've been DYYYYING for both Silkwood and Mask to get added to a streaming service or UA-cam, and they never are, ever. The whole world is missing out.
I have got the soundtrack Lp to this classic movie and I can honestly say that it's bloody fantastic, this is featured on it along with Amazing Grace. beautiful score, terrific movie ✴✴✴✴✴
I always felt Cher's award in Moonstruck was a consolatory victory for not winning in Silkwood and not nominated for Mask. At least it was for Best Actress instead of Supporting Actress.
Lisa Foos they killed Karen because she knew too much and was gonna expose the lie that working with plutonium was safe and i strongly believe that the real dolly ...whose name in real life was sheri ellis was a mole for the company how else would k-m get such pertinent info so soon after it happen ?? If karen had got rid of sheri i garentee the company wouldve become clueless til she sold the story to the ny times killing her only delayed the inevitable the plant was shut down a yr after she died...rip Karen silkwood
this was a great role played by Cher. She stole every scene from Meryl Streep. Very, very impressive. And it was not usual to have a gay character in a major film. But Cher nailed it.
This drama is based on the true story of Karen Silkwood (Meryl Streep), who works at a nuclear facility, along with her boyfriend, Drew Stephens (Kurt Russell), and their roommate, Dolly Pelliker (Cher). When Karen becomes concerned about safety practices at the plant, she begins raising awareness of violations that could put workers at risk. Intent on continuing her investigation, Karen discovers a suspicious development: She has been exposed to high levels of radiation.
Throughout this whole movie, Karen and Dolly have this silent understanding that Dolly is in love with Karen. I know this part of the story is fictional but my heart breaks for Dolly :( Great subtle acting by both of them
People in Oklahoma don’t ever , would never pronounce formaldehyde, “for-mal-dee-hide” the way they did. They do however pronounce it, “ for-mal-duh-hide”. With drawn out emphasis on the, “duh” and “I” in hide, for instance. As to whether the southern twang is as thick as they represented, that depends on where the listener is from. People from Oklahoma laugh when they hear the accents used. I’ve always admired Meryl for her accents in her movies. After Silkwood I then had to question how authentic any seemed to people from the regions represented .
I know what you mean, I've asked every person in OK too - none of them say it that way. And I'm sure it wasn't Mike Nichols' choice to go with that pronunciation in order to make fun of Dolly's girlfriend and thus establish a bonding moment between the 2 characters. 🙄
Where did you get that chic? You did very good in this movie, there is an epidemic in this world, we should all relate to; currently, I am working on planetary defense. I wanted to chose you, but your outfits were too skimpy-It should be conservative. But, you have a power in your acting and the world should be appreciative. Lisa
They even today in pictures they appear together look like an old couple. Cher thanked her specially when she won Oscar 1988 and Meryl blew her a kiss back.
Climate change...environment...water...geology...poverty...workers in manufacturing plants - do you Xer and XYZers really know know what this movie is about.
The movie was not accurate. For example, the "Silkwood Shower" never happened. It was put in to help make the power plant appear even more evil and give a phony credibility to the suggested ending. Nuclear Power is the cleanest most efficient way to get power than any other. We've come a long way since the 70s!
@Freline Go blow it out your pie hole! You came in way too late and you can take your bitter snide remark and shove it up your personal plumbing. When you're telling a so-called, "True Story", and the one scene that anyone remembers or takes away from that movie is a totally made-up, never-happened event, or as you put it, "artistic license", it goes to show that without the BS added into the facts, they didn't have a movie that was worth watching. As for fiction becoming an urban legend, now folks actually believe that this "shower" scene happened in real life, because people are easily led like sheep. The power plant was made out to look more sinister and evil than it really was. The whole story was ginned up to reflect a negative political opinion and position on nuclear power. The sooner you come to terms with that, and the sooner you get yourself educated with facts, the better of you'll be. Watching this movie and claiming to have seen a "True Story" is a lie, just as watching news networks like CNN or MSNBC and claiming to be properly informed by legitamate unbiased news sources is also a lie. Just stating the facts. Try introducing yourself to them, see how wise you finally become. Start now, maybe by your 80's you might catch up to me, but I doubt it.
I miss movies like this. It will never be like this again.
They're both great actresses. What amazes me about Meryl Streep is she can play any type of character known to man. Her duplications of accents is just as amazing as her acting.
Thanks for the upload. Meryl Streep and Cher are brilliant actresses and this movie shows their talent.

One of the most beautiful Meryl Streep scenes ever!
Cher should've won an Oscar for this role.

She did win the Golden Globe! She's so fantastic in this

I absolutely love this movie. Cher was perfect in it.
In real life, Karen and Dolly were really great friends. I think that Cher and Meryl did a good job translating that to the screen.
They're really good friends in real life too

Hey but you can get it online. Infact, I can send you ths masterpiece.
Not shown due to Kerr/Magee company. I grew up in Okla. That company is/was very powerful with lobbies and endless cash.
