    Pomparo Firpo was what professional wrestling was all about. An absolute legend who is so very underrated. I saw him wrestle the Original Sheik at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Probably in '72 or '73.

    My dad always told me and my cousin about a wrestler he used to watch growing up named "Palm Peril Purple". We thought he was messing with us, and could never find anyone or anything to validate it.
    Mystery solved.

    Pampero Firpo, with no doubt one of the most underrated ring workers ever. Despise his size and limited English level, he was so tremendous, scary and tough competitor...

      Limited English haha. he holds a Master's Degree from Kent State.

      Richard Brake I heard that firpo is very intelligent. He's like George "the animal "Steele acts like an idiot in the ring but in real life a genius .

      Richard Brake that was kayfabe. He graduated from high school in Argentina but never attended college. He never worked as a professor either. He is multilingual though (Spanish, Italian, Armenian, English, Greek, Portuguese, Russian) and well read.

    Firpo's promos were incredibly believable, with that voice like a cement mixer full of gravel. Today guys take acting classes and use comedy writers, but they don't scare anybody FOR REAL.

      AMEN. When I was a kid, the Kiwi Sheepherders were absolutely feckin' TERRIFYING. The Bushwhackers was a silly comedy act loosely based on a wild-ass tag team that barnstormed the American South and left TOTAL CARNAGE in their wake. Same thing with The Sheik. If you watch I Like To Hurt People, that scene where the Sheik has Terry Funk bent backwards over the drunk rail, jabbing him in the head with that corn-dog stick. There's five rows of people crabbing backwards over the seats just scared shitless of that old man. The Great Kabuki was scary, too. You're right, nobody's scary worth shit nowadays. Marjorie Taylor Greene is scarier than any heel on WWE.

      Yeah, sometimes opponents, sometimes tag team partners. I remember one tag team match from way back in the 70s where The Sheik, Pampero Firpo & Abdulla the Butcher were matched up against Dick the Bruiser, Bobo Brazil & Big Tex McKenzie. It was total carnage!

    The lead announcer is Chuck Marlowe, who worked for WTTV, Channel 4, in Indianapolis. Marlowe played right along with the wrestlers, and I recall him once sounding totally serious as he quoted a rumor that when Pompero Firpo took off his boots, his feet looked like animal claws.

    The first time I saw him I was about eight years old and he was wrestling for the LaBelles in LA and he was, if you can believe it, a babyface and just like in this video whenever anyone made a grab for his hair he went berserk. In fact, I can even see a little bit of Taz in him due to the short stature.

    Firpo appears smaller than he looks. Mind you with this is the first time ive ever seen him wrestle prior to just photos he easily reminds me of later wrestlers like Jeorge Steele, The Berzerker and Taz all rolled into one.

    Firpo was on WWA tv a lot. Not too much on the circuit tho. Maybe Indy a time or two. He was in AWA and Chicago. Luce indicated DTB and Firpo was coming and coming soon. We never saw it. Gary Vallon also went as Jay Vallen. Same results! Either Bruiser didn’t know how to develop talent or didn’t care. This should have been 1969.

  • @MrHmg55
    @MrHmg55 11 років тому +1

    This must have been around 1968 or '69, right? By the early '70s, Valiant was already in the WWWF and turned heel.

    • @markbutler8126
      @markbutler8126 7 років тому +2

      MrHmg55 even earlier than that Jimmy debuted about '64 or '65 and that would be about the time Firpo was wrestling for the Bruiser in Indianapolis.

    • @RasslinRelics

      @@markbutler8126 Jimmy didn't start until May of 1967. Firpo didn't come to Indy until late 1968, or 1969.

    Valiant jobbing to Firpo the wild 🐂 bull...and Valiant made to look like a inept, blonde-mopped, sissyboy...I only wish Firpo would of punished Valiant in a camel clutch, Valiant finally submitting to it, and Firbo refusing to release it for a good lonnnng while after...nice close-up camera shot of Valiant's suffering/begging facial expressions...and Firpo's cocky, gritted teeth expression of total alpha satisfaction
