My maternal grandparents' names were Walter and Dorothy. Grandpa was a WWII vet, and absolute hardass who was shot in the neck, taken prisoner by the Germans, escaped, hid out in France for a few months, and made it back home to his wife. This movie makes me think of him a lot. He died pretty young (63 years old), but he was still the toughest man I've ever met.

My dad fought in WWII and The Korean War. In 1969 he had to use his Colt 1911 to defend himself from a guy that was going to rob him at a Red Light in The Barrio. He was hauling Hot Asphalt at night. Drivers were getting robbed at Red Lights, so my Dad started carrying his Colt on him. One night it was Foggy, and Dad stopped at a light. He saw this guy cross over his trailer draw bar and he was sneaking up on the drivers side of the truck. Dad pulled out his gun and when the dude popped up next to the window Dads Colt was pointed right at the dudes Forehead. Dad asked him if he needed anything? The guy said he was wondering what time it was. Dad told him it was time for him to get off his truck before he Blew his Fucking head off. The guy didnt say a word. He jumped off the truck and started running the other way. True Story.

No words to describe the legacy of Clint Eastwood. Made his debut in the 1950s classical period of Hollywood and continues making films well into the 21st century - the age of mobile phones, broadband internet and social media all of which he did not see till 60 years of his life. Many of his contemporaries have passed away especially the music director Ennio Morricone whose bgm made him the legend.

This came out in 2008. I remember 2008. Seems like yesterday. But the character arc of this protagonist is that he's a cranky, unhappy old man. He says racist things to everyone, including the Asian woman in this scene, but has the kind of fundamental moral code also displayed in this scene. It's a similar story arc to Matt Dillion's character's in the 2004 movie Crash. It's too bad the political center has disappeared, and so many Americans like this Eastwood character were swayed to the right, to support extremist white supremacist politicians, instead of moving left, to progressive, anti-racist positions

He fought in Okinawa then again in Korea .One Saturday (1973),I was 8 ,we went to a gun store . In a flash he pushed me out of the way and pulled his 45 on two guys that came in the rob the shop . He and the store owner disarmed them & pistol wiped them before the police came .. I mean they tripped ! He said that he did it in case the judge did not dispense justice . Never had to repeat himself & spanked me when I deserved it …kept me on the straight and narrow . Thanks dad!

But you’re right about what she’s pointing out… they perpetuate ALL the “stereotypes” they say we have of them! (Again) that kinda proves that they AREN’T STEREOTYPES!!! It’s about their attitude and just plain ungrateful nature…do they really think they’d be better off staying in Africa? That civilization created slavery!!! They had more of a chance being enslaved…had they all been left there! White men died by the thousands to END SLAVERY yet they still are ungrateful for that sacrifice and their freedom… they wake up “offended” and live in the perpetual pity party…and will guilt trip their way into every situation they can! The three young guys were met with someone who would not hesitate to pull the trigger, yet he showed self control, thereby controlling the situation with that .45 auto. Hopefully they took a valuable lesson from this incident (even though it was just a movie).

In real life they would have surely been strapped, and as old and slow as he was in this scene it wouldn't have taken much to overpower him before he was able to pull his weapon. He was just way to close. If he was another 50 feet away then sure. He probably could have pulled this off ONLY IF they didn't have guns too.. it was just unrealistic honestly

@@zebduffey5698 That's film. Do you realize how bad the shots would look if he stood a safe distance back? They wanted close ups and angles with all the characters in view. Do you watch all movies like they are documentaries? You should see how bad ass this guy named John Wick is.

The scene is all wrong. Clint Eastwood wasn't even there when Scott was saying "bro"... Clint Eastwood arrived to the intersection AFTER the bro scene happened. Movie mistake.
