Dave please hear me when I say this... your rambling is literally one of the best parts about your channel... you are just being yourself... no editing... just you being you in the moment... it is endearing and one of the things I admire most about you and your channel.
I have the WH-10 v3, the DS2, an Orange and Marshall amp, and I’m proof it’s not the equipment that makes you sound good. You’re videos truly inspire me to play and get better. Appreciate you.
In addition to your music being beautiful, your music is important. I cannot tell you how many times I've turn your music on my big, loud af, sound system and just blasted it to get my mind right! You and I both have our mental health issues. I just wish I could help you the way you help me. ❤️
The wh10v2 is my absolute favourite wah. First of all its the Frusciante wah so awesome! (I know he uses a v1) But second I bought mine on 13th February 2011. I was on the way to buy a valentines gift for my then girlfriend and went by the local music shop to get some strings. The guy working there went "Yo you're a frusciante fan right? Well look what we got" Well it did not have money anymore for a valentines gift. So I ended up writing a song for her (without the wah she knew what a wah was and that I did not have one). Ten years later I still have the wah wah xD No, before anyone asks the break up was not wah related. As for the bypass switch I don't mind it. But I wish the bass/git switch and bypass would be switched. I use the mode switch quite a bit so the larger one would be nicer for it. The bypass I probably just leave where it sounds best
Dave you are 100% correct about the foam pad that pushes the switch down being rubbish. Mine came and didn’t work so tried lots of dealers to get a replacement but Ibanez don’t do it as a part So I bought a packet of those little clear domed plastic feet and stuck it on top and it now works a treat . They come in packs of loads for a couple of squid so your future proofed.
I had a V2, but I loaned it to a friend who moved kind of suddenly and I've been shocked at the priced those things are selling for the last couple of years. It does sound there's a bit of a power loss in the V3; I dunno, it just doesn't seem to hit the amp quite as much as the V2... But for $149.99 and free shipping it'll do. Thanks Mr. Dave. This was all the endorsement I needed.
I think they added the true bypass switching to give it bit more flexibility when you try to pair it with a fuzz - buffers before vintage type fuzz dont work at all, maybe this switch allows you to experiment with the signal chain bit more. Or maybe its just a nod towards people with big boards that need true bypass to reduce drop of highs, having all true bypass effects. Awesome wah anyway, I stand by my v2 despite the volume boosts :) It just has THE tone mr JF put in my head a long while ago :) Thanks for yet another awesome video!
I am influenced by AC/DC and Rory Gallagher. Angus said that in the early days they used to use pedals but people in the audience kept unplugging them... or a pedal would fail just as the gig started.. so they started to keep the set up as simple as possible. Traditionally, I only use one pedal (BD2) but most backlines use Marshall amps without reverb.. so I added a reverb pedal.. then a compressor for boost... then a phaser for texture... see where this is going?....
@@crabbtrixexp no, no Crocs with pedals! You get carried away and put the button through the sole of your Croc and then fall down with your guitar on, nope!

Can you do a video covering EQ pedals. After some deep diving online I’m coming to terms with how versatile they are. Your vid on the rotovibe convinced me to get one and it now has a permanent spot on my board. I’d love to see a vid from you on EQs
Surely the volume jump is less with the buffer because it's buffering the signal when it's not engaged. True bypass is giving you some sound loss when it's off so the jump is bigger when it's engaged.
Bypass modes are about when a pedal is OFF-that is, it’s being Bypassed. So there is neither True nor Buffered Bypass when the pedal is clicked ON, because the pedal is NOT being bypassed. In Buffered Bypass mode the Input signal is routed through buffering circuits-but not the pedal’s main processing circuits-then Output to the next pedal. In True Bypass mode, the Input signal is routed directly to the Output with no processing at all, Input and Output are identical.
phew just turned you tube on and there's the main man Dave with another HAUNTING tune, the control of the wah pedal s brilliant Dave i have one and its fun but watching you with in dreamland is brilliant m8
Hi Dave love ur playing, so emotional. Just a quicky; u said u loved the Ibanez wah, but the Vox is ur general all rounder? I am in wah pedal confusion of what to buy. My brain is scrambled by reviews and availability of wahs. I love Ibanez but cry baby and vox both big names are poking their noses in to my brain as options. Any thouights? Thanks man ur the real deal!
I considered ibanez wah (too agressive) but I settled on the dunlop's gcb95 cry baby and I'm happy. With respect to the buffer, I think it's there to be switched off if running a fuzz pedal after the wah (with both wah and fuzz turned on). Fuzzes don't like low impedence signals and a buffer will turn high impedance to low impedance signal so that signal is preserved for long cable runs. Fuzzes like a direct guitar signal to work with.
I had a v2 and what made me sell it was actually the tone loss and not the volume jump. What I was expecting from the new bypass switch feature is for the True Bypass mode to actually remove the tone loss issue, preserving my signal as is when the pedal is not engaged. Did you notice any difference regarding this?
the inspiration I get to to pick up the guitar and play comes from Dave every time. does it sound anywhere near as good, no would be the answer but I'm having fun with it n that's all that matters . keep on keeping on Dave . u rock buddy 👍
I love the engage of the V3. Once you know how to lean into it, it engages fine, you kinda have to give it a push, but because of that tough switch I rarely disengage it when I don't intend to!!!!
I like my WH10V3, although I'd prefer if it had a bit more sweep and a tad more agressive low end growl. I don't hear any volume jump in my WH10, in fact I'd wish more volume from it. Maybe I don't get the volume jump as I use wha as the last pedal in my chain and hit it with overdrive or distortion. Out of curiousity have you ever tried a Boss PW-3 and if so how do they compare to the Wh10?
let me know if your switch gives out, my switch gave out after just a few weeks and had to send it back to ibanez for repairs. they put a different switch entirely on and cleaned the pots. right now i'm working on getting the pots cleaned again and using your video which is very helpful. although it's hard to tell how much is coming from a dirty pot or just the pedal being badly built.

dave you MUST try the wilson effects ten spot 2@!!! i just got it a few days ago after having so much trouble with the v3. I spent 150 for the v3, another 30 getting it repaired, and now the pot isn't working right. so if i sent it in for repairs again it would be 200+. but for the same price i got the ten spot 2 which is a clone of the original circuit! it's in a metal casting, super heavy duty, adjustable treadle, you will LOVE IT and it sounds just like a v1. slightly different but 98% there. i have a demo vid. it sounds way closer than v2 or v3! and they have another version which has extra settings, plus they sell replacement pots for the original wh10, which you can't get anywhere else! you simply must try!
I have this pedal. If you only play John Frusciante stuff, ye, it's the best, but... if you want to expand your style and still use the wah with the depth at 10 (for the sweep) for clean and with other drives regardless of their placement in the signal chain and don't want to contantly run a compressor (I use a keeley 2-knob as a vol limiter with almost no compression) to tame the volume jump - you need to add a volume pot. I sent mine last week to remove the bypass/buffer switch with a volume pot to see if it works. I really love the wah but I'm not constantly playing nasty distorted stuff (as it is intended with this pedal) so I really needed the mod. Cheers
To anyone that may be interested: I have been using the pedal modded with a volume pot and it’s basically the perfect wahwah now. I can now tame the volume jump with the potentiometer with no issue and can run it without a volume limiter after and the sweep at 10.
Dave, I have a question for you: I bought the V3 last week and I'm unable to turn it off from the switch, even when standing up and putting all my weight on the toe part of the pedal. Is there anything I'm missing? I even returned the first one I got thinking there was something wrong with it, but my second one is the same.
Hi Dave! Thank you for your incredible work. I have a question: I need a WH10, and i found a used v2 at a good price. Should i get it or spend more to get a new v3? I want the John Frusciante tone (obviously haha)
OK, so maybe I should not need to say this, but Dave, with a Wah, playing the Oswald Strat? That alone could be classified as a kind of click-bait when you think about it - I mean who didn't sprain their fingers trying to click this link as fast as possible? Welcome to Dave's World of Wah - where ears are made happy, and G.A.S. is a natural emergent property of the whole process LOL. Simply beautiful playing Dave, many thanks, and the Wah seems, to my less than Wah-aficionado ears, like it does the job quite well.
Hey Dave, do you get a clicking sound when rocking the pedal back and fourth? My V3 engage button clicks as I use the pedal and I feel like that shouldn’t happen
Hey Dave, not too long ago I got a WH10 v3 brand new (thanks to you) and loving it. Just today I saw a couple of listings for some used v2 even cheaper than the v3! Would you recommend me getting one for 100€? You say on the video that there’s only about 10% difference but I never played one and I know the v2 is your favorite afterall
another problem i had is the cushion they put above the bar that hits the switch doesn't stay glued. even after sending it for repairs and getting a new switch, the cushion fell right off. i think it might have had something to do with the switch giving out, but i can't be bothered to deal with that little pad. and it shouldn't make a difference. but yea let me know how the pedal does down the road! i'm really disappointed but i love the sound.
“I love the switch I keep messing with it….it’s not yours Dave, stop it” 😂😂😂 Dave is this pedal a fine substitute for the original? I’m a JF nut but wondering is it really worth sourcing and original if this gets 90% as close?
From what I can hear in the video, I wonder if the Bypass/Buffered volume jump difference is more of a tone issue. I've got a feeling that the Buffered mode sucks part of the higher frequencies and therefore the True Bypass shows a lot of treble. Great video as always Dave! I'm thinking about buying it now that it's not out of stock or anything (never had the chance to buy the previous versions of it), but I'm not playing as much as I used to so idk hahaha
I like this video , unfortunately my wh 10 v3 is best friends with dust that i forget to clean up , i got back to crybaby classic. Btw buffer on v3 is noticeable if it is only buffer in chain ,to me my experience with my v3 when wah is on then its not matter where switch is ,i think it is less strong than boss buffer pedals. If i remember i had mine on 11 clock gain. Most fun on bass mode. Your guitar looks brutal Dave.
Hey dude - the buffer/true bypass switch will only affect the bypassed signal. You should try leaving the wah off and A/B the bypassed tone - buffered vs true bypass. The volume jump will seem different because it's the bypassed tone which is changing! :)

Hey Dave what sound effect do you use to get that spaced out effect. 🙂 love this intro
Its the mel 9. :)
@@thedavesimpson thank you sounds lovely trying to find a similar sound on a zoom
That intro is phenomenal, I'm really chasing the frusciante tone, is it a good all round pedal or would I be better off with a cry baby for my first
Its a good all rounder.
Yay
god the sweep is so incredibly dark on these
youre guitar looks like John Frusciantes 62 Strat in Sunburst! impressive
i like your socks :)
Is the v3 as much of a diva as the v2?
Hello Dave! Happy you're doing well. (I think your sock needs a bit of pre amp...)
Hey dude - the buffer/true bypass switch will only affect the bypassed signal. You should try leaving the wah off and A/B the bypassed tone - buffered vs true bypass. The volume jump will seem different because it's the bypassed tone which is changing! :)
I'll give it a go. Cheers muchly. :)
Cool intro!☺
love u
Ye wah? - stop pedalling dodgy puns, Dave!
So wich switch has the less volume
jump ?
On this end, the volume jump was not as severe when you flipped the switch. Though there was a jump in volume, it wasn't as harsh.
0:35 these three notes, I thought you were going for Elton John's Lion King song.
How do you make your backing tracks?
Looper.
I actually took the padding off being stupid and i kind of like having less pressure to use the switch.
