  • Warren got this 1995 Mitsubishi Mighty Max pickup truck in trade for labor, and he loves it. It is a base model pickup from 1995 that feels like a truck from the mid 1980's. This truck is equipped with almost no options and every thing that it does have doesn't work. it does have a period correct tape deck, but it doesn't have speakers..."so I have that going for me". The Dodge Ram 50 was essentially the same truck with different trim and badges.

I have an 88 Mighty Max. The timing belt broke a few months back. I watched some UA-cam How To videos. Went to O'Reilly's and they had it in stock on the shelf for 28 bucks. Had everything off and put back together in about an hour. I'm not a mechanic but it was so easy to work on. Love this Lil beast. Coming up on 260,000 miles and going strong.

I have an 87 Max 4x4 manual ass kicker of a truck. Best $400 bucks I spent for years of fun and crazy destructive shit. I am curious though, can anyone tell me why people care to restore these trucks , honestly they have looked like cosmetic shitstorm since they began making them. Oh and it was in good condition from a one owner that used it for a daily driver till I purchased it and actually drove pretty decent on highway’s ect. Since I’ve owned it , abusing the living hell out of it here in Louisiana and still runs. Has taken a cosmetic beating but shit I don’t care. Hell its been Sunk 3 times with swamp water up to steering wheel , I’ll pull it from the shit, drain and fill all fluids, try to air out inside and the tough bastard will continue to crank up and take on some near impossible challenges of extreme Gumbo Mud , bashing my own trails ect. Freaking little tank

I love my 1994 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Sport Truck! 27+ years old, 285,000 miles, it's green, a 5 speed and still runs so smooth. Still looks good, too. I bought it brand new for $10,300 sticker price. Best car I've ever owned.

Had an repainted bright blue 89 ranger with gaudy rims Bought it off craigslist for 1200 bucks, put almost nothing in to it 5 speed 2.3 l engine, it basically had a body an engine, a transmission, headlights and some wiring to make it all work together. Best damn vehicle I ever bought. Steering was completely blown out and steering gear just bled fluid as soon as i poured fluid in the ps pump, so it was manual everything. Let my mom use it, she tore it up Left it on the side of the road and let some stranger take it without telling me till he had pretty much assumed ownership of it. Thanks mom ur the best

+Ruben Silva Make sure you do your timing belt & tensioner if you haven't already. I had mine replaced (original) at 135k and it was looking REALLY rough! Also, do some internet research on doing an ECM inspection - many years of Mighty Max had inferior-quality capacitors in the ECM that tended to leak electrolyte onto the circuit board as they aged. It's a known problem for these trucks, and it's better to see ahead of time that there is an issue so that you can either replace them (if you're electronically-inclined) or acquire a remanufactured ECM to keep on a shelf somewhere in case yours fails someday. My '95 has 147k now, and I hope to get 250k out of him.

My father had a '89 Mighty Max that I used to borrow to commute to school. Like yours, there was no option on it at all. I did put in a tape deck later on (with door speakers!). Man, I remember the manual steering....parallel parking was an upper body workout. Compared to modern pickups, it was primitive. But you know what? I'd love to have one again. It was simple, easy and inexpensive to maintain, and was reliable. Great video!

I’ve got a 1991 mighty max. My neighbor behind me caught me watching her doing yoga in her back yard and I covered myself by offering to chop down this huge pile of weeds in her back yard. She then told me there’s a truck in those weeds. I paid her $50 bucks and changed out the gas and it started right up and passed emissions. The only thing it needed was a slave cylinder. Everything else has been cosmetic. I put led head lights and taillights welded up some aluminum tube bumpers on the front it’s more like a cow pusher bumper . New tires and brakes. Rebuilt calipers and drum brakes on the rear. Rhino lined the bed added tie downs then a camper shell . New kenwood stereo and last but not least a do it yourself camouflage paint job that turned out pretty good but did take all day. It’s been a great little Pooh butt truck. I am having an issue with my clutch. My peddle goes to the floor and sometimes engages and sometimes it doesn’t. I just float the gears when it doesn’t so it doesn’t bother me but I would like to fix the issue when I got time. No a/c but the heater blows hot and everything it came with works. I wouldn’t sell it for 5k. Great truck.. maybe I’ll sell it in aNorway haha

The 2.4l FI models are much more powerful than the 2.0 carbureted. Mine did have power steering. I dropped mine and put on some black sporty 20” rims. Same color as this truck in vid. It looked awesome with new paint. Beautiful boxy 80/90’s.

Upgraded the internals of the original radio with a bluetooth amplifier, switched out the 80's Pioneer speakers but kept the grille, and I want to keep it as original as possible. I think these trucks are highly underrated, I own a 1988 4x4 mitsu mighty max with the 2.6 motor, the mightymax is a great truck daily driver all the drawbacks you mention in the video are what is to be expected in a mini truck designed in the late 80's, no toyota, mazda or nissan mini trucks of the era etc. will do much better in all categories mentioned, and I think they are worth a look if your n the market for a mini truck they get a bad rep from people that don't maintain them but as long as you keep up on maintenance and you will be happy.

I wouldn't mind to hunt one of these down when I got the cash.
I've been going though a hard time where I had to sell my 1986 Chevy CUCV M1028 former US military truck.
And I'm slowly getting back on my feet again, so in the future I really want to have a truck again because well trucks are useful!
I was browsing on a local classified site and seen a Dodge Ram 50, and it reminded me about them!
I wouldn't mind one of them, just a small economical truck, built very simple, nothing fancy fix it in my back yard. I admire basic vehicles!
Don't got the cash to get one now..... sadly considering how old these trucks are now I might not find one when I got cash in my pocket.....
I'm also in Canada I never seen one of these trucks badge as a Mitsubishi, I always understood they were Mitsubishi's when they were badge as Dodge's.
But idk if Mitsubishi never bothered to release this truck in Canada, or if it boils down to the fact that there is so few Mitsubishi dealers in Canada, none where I grew up.
And where I live now from what I understood they popped up abit over a decade ago....
But rather it be badged as a Dodge or a Mitsubishi I want to get my hands on one!

My dad bought an 87 new in that year. I learned to drive in it. Bare bones with A/C and of course we installed a seriously awesome pull out tape deck.
Here’s the best part it lasted more than 20 years and had over 250,000 miles on it when he sold it. I miss something simple like that truck.
It was my dad’s commuter and work truck. It put food on the table and due to some family issues got us across the continent five times. Never ever failed us.

137 hp, 5spd., and very light weight. It's fast once it's warmed up. Cold, it's better to take off in 2nd gear. Cornering is a real challenge, maybe lowered it would be better.

+bass guitar OMG yes, they corner so poorly... Then again, my '95 still has original front shocks and it's hard to find a good reasonably-priced 14" truck tire! I pretty much am stuck with "This is what we put on Corollas." LOL

    • @mitsubishikid1187
      @mitsubishikid1187 7 років тому +1

the lifters are an easy fix most people don't change their oil on time and this results in lifter tick, they tend to get clogged when lots of debris get in the oil, I know because none of my mitsus are ticking lol my secret frequent oil changes on time, and I never use fram or masterpro oil filters, they are trash, get a wix, stp, purolater, mobile 1,K&N.
Oil filter choice is important, the fram/masterpro units have cardboard end caps, and yes they get the job done in most cases, but get anything but them if you want to keep your car around longer
