This was an excellent video. Thank you. I had never changed the oil in one of these before, and it was much easier to do than I thought. I like how the oil filter is up high and is accessible from under the hood instead of underneath the vehicle!
You’re welcome. I agree on the filter location, much better than oil running down your arm.
Thank you sir. Great video. You left no question unanswered. The caption’s really help
Glad to hear it! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Thanks for the video! Needed to change oil for a friend with this same year and model. One thing I might add, for any oil change, is to grab a flashlight and check around the filter/ filter housing with the engine running for any leaks. Good way to catch a loose filter or missing or extra o-ring before driving away.
You’re welcome. Thanks for checking in and great addition.
Thank you for the excellent video. I had avoided doing my own oil changes for a few years (got kind of lazy), but the second time I had the oil changed at the Chrysler dealer, (with only 17,000 miles on the vehicle) they really buggered the van. Driving down the highway a few miles after the oil change, the oil low pressure alarm came on; I shut her down quickly, and oil was drooling out the bottom of the van, and oil was all over the engine. The grease monkey had over-torqued the oil filter, cracking the housing. I had to threaten the dealership with legal action to get them to come out with a tow truck and get it off the highway. The van was then in the shop for three days, and when I picked it up, the battery was toast. Today, when I started to change the oil myself, I found the drain plug WAY over-torqued. I was afraid I was going to break the 3/8 drive socket with the long breaker bar, so I got my 1/2" torque wrench and 1/2" drive socket on it. It finally broke loose at 60 ft-lbs. Last time I'll go to that dealer! (although they recently changed hands, so hopefully they are training their grease monkeys now). Got Penzoil 0w-20 Ultra Platinum at Home Depot as cheap as anywhere (plus I had a gift card to burn!).
I feel your pain, it’s seems like the recent labor shortage has made this type of story more common.
I prefer to do my own maintenance but I’m a bit of a control freak. I don’t like knowing for sure what type of oil they are using etc. I’ve seen plenty of cases where the grade on the oil change sticker doesn’t even match what is required for the car. When confronted most shops just say that the sticker isn’t correct.
The Penzoil Platinum is great oil and now you won’t have to worry about a kid with an impact tightening your filter housing and drain plug.
Appreciate the refresher that I needed! Perfect video.
Glad it was helpful!
From someone whose dad never taught them anything about cars besides changing a headlight…this helped me tremendously this will save so much time and money. Thank you so much
You’re welcome, I’ll glad I could help.
Appreciate this greatly! This is the exact car I have so less chance I’ll mess up.
You’re welcome, good luck with the oil change 👍
Great video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!
Exactly how I do mine
I use ramps, drive on off, last oil change was 14 minutes start to finish. $35 for oil and filter, good stuff. Fram xg11665 and pennzoil ultra platinum 0w-20.
Just did 1,200 mile road trip for holidays, 33 mpg on highway, cruise @ 73 mph, smooth as silk. Oil still dark golden honey color.
I've heard some good things about the Penzoil Ultra Plantinum, but it seems like 0w-20 is always sold out at the store I go to.
What is your opinion of the oil filter up top in the plastic housing? I haven't had any problems, and its much easier to get to and produces less mess.
@@TheLawnEngineer yes it’s a plastic housing, very careful not to snap or crack, use 15/16, turn slowly and it’s good. Change o rings every time works good
@@TheLawnEngineer Amazon 0w-20 ultra platinum, 5 quarts, goes right to middle of dipstick, $24.97, buy several at a time. May have to wait if it’s not in stock and just buy it up once available
@@medjoolmaker I have heard horror stories, it seems they usually stem from the last person over torquing.
I like going to the store, but I should just order it. Half the time I go, the store doesn't have what I want.
Excellent video.Thank you so much ( I never would have found that *^$$# oil filter)
You're welcome, I'm glad it helped.
I have a 2018 same as ur video i just did my 1st oil change and after 5 quorts it was still a quort low but specs say 5 i put 6 and was rt on the spot
I trust the dipstick too. Thanks for checking in.
Thanks for this oil change video as well other videos, you have put on ur channel. From now on i am taking care of my wife's 2017 Chrysler Pacifica as well. There isn't much content available about this vehicle. Ur channel was the first i found so thanks again.
The biggest issue i have found so far is the mileage and occasional vibration/power loss sense on idling.
What mileage should we be getting in full tank (70L) in city? So far I am getting around 380km/ tank. Can we change fuel filter in these vehicles or they are built-in? Any other tips regarding better fuel economy and vibration issues?
Thanks
Glad you are finding value in my videos.
The city mileage is not good for these vans, we would routinely get 19 miles per gallon with city driving.
There isn’t a replaceable fuel filter.
Hey on your oil filter cover, can you see the o ring after you installed the new filter? Im just nervous about how tight to get that thing i mean we are talking plastic components on a part that is notorious for failure. I will post a video to show what im talking about
No, the o ring will slip down fully into the housing. You want to be sure the o-ring is in the groove just above the threads.
You are right to be concerned about over tightening, many people go too tight and crack the housing.
Do I have to use a jack and jack stands? I do not have either. Just curious if it is necessary or if it just makes it easier. Thanks! Great video.
Jacks and Jack stands are required, this van is very low to the ground in front. A set of ramps will also work.
Thank you great help
You’re welcome 👍, thanks for checking in
Very informative and straight to the point. So on my Japanese brand cars, I tend to go with their OEM spec oil filters. The Pacifica is my first American car. What oil filter do you think is best, would you recommend for the Pacifica? Mopar brand? And did you mean a new drain plug crush washer is recommended or the actual drain plug itself? Interesting they have the crush washer married to the bolt. Very helpful video. Thanks!
Thank you. Wix or Mopar are probably the best filters. I would point out that brand is not as critical as conventional oil filters. Conventional filters have bypass valves in them that have to work correctly to prevent oil starvation. This filter type is only the filter element and most companies do source a decent filter element.
@@TheLawnEngineer Got it. Thanks for the reply. 👍🏻
@@Mike_44 you’re welcome
can you do a video on where to put jack stands and hydraulic jack under the van
I don't have the van anymore; however, the jack goes on the pinch well just behind the front wheel. There is notch cut out of the rocker panel, to provide clearance (look underneath and you will see it). The best place for the jack stands are underneath the suspension a-arms.
Well done.
Thank you
Thx for video!!
By the way, how much in avarege is oil change cost in US? I am from Europe and have just spent ~250 USD for oil and everything. When I see how easy it is, I am thinking doing it myself next time
I would say around $65 if you take it to a dealer. I just ordered oil and a filter from Walmart and its $35 delivered to my door.
Young first time home owner you're teaching me so much! Thank you.
How do you know you tightened to 12 lbs. Do you just feel it?
I’m glad you are finding value in my videos. You should use a torque wrench to make sure you don’t over tighten. Once you get familiar with tightening you will notice the difference between the resistance of the o-ring and when the cap bottoms out. You want to tight just until the cap bottoms out.
@@TheLawnEngineer I didn't grow up with tools so I didn't know. I just picked up a click torque wrench . Thank you once again.
Same vehicle. I can’t remove the oil filter, it’s stuck, I have the extension and everything, taken it two places to change it and they won’t touch it in case they break it.
Idk what to do. Guess it’s off to the dealership.
Oh no, it was torqued too much. Unfortunately, I think someone is going to have to break it and replace it. The good news is, the rest is metal so you can break the plastic part and the rest should be fine.
Thank you
You're welcome, thanks for the comment.
You should add how to reset the oil change gauge
Great point, I should have included that
where do you also go to get oil, filter and new screw?
You can order from Amazon:

Hey sir on the pacifica rubber o ring on filter cap....does the ring need to be all the way up to the top flange? Mine is on the 2nd or 3rd ring down and I have oil seeping out of filter. Thanks for any help sir
Not all the way up to the flange, there is a spot just above the threads. You should check your plastic housing for a crack.
@@TheLawnEngineer thank you sir...
@@marine052520031 you're welcome.
This helped out a lot, but now after the oil change I reset the oil life my mpg color went from green to yellow. Hopefully you can help me out.
That’s interesting, I haven’t heard of that. I would disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes to reset things.
you need to go into you uconnect and make sure its in mpg and not km. That what happen to mine when I got an oil change.
We are looking at a 2019 Limited tomorrow at our local dealership. Should we pass on this van? Are Pacificas junk?! We are trading in our 15 Grand Caravan. Thx
I would say they are just ok. The biggest issue is the transmission. You can mitigate the hard shifts by resetting the transmission control module but it’s something that needs to be done about once a month.

Was there supposed to be a spring between the oil filter and the plastic cap? I was doing an oil change on mine and my ‘19 Pacifica came with one..??
PS: Disregard, I realized the spring goes up top maintaining pressure to the oil filter from the plastic cap.
Thanks for checking in 👍
@@TheLawnEngineer Sure thing, hope you’re enjoying the Tesla. 👍🏻
@@Mike_44 I am…no oil changes 🙃

I wonder if you can help me, I have a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica. I have researched and looked all over the Internet for something that shows me where my oil dipstick is I've had three people look for it nobody can find it and it's not right in front of the engine with the big yellow circle thing. Two other people have looked for and they can't find it either please help
It’s definitely the yellow circle at the front of the engine. Likely, the stick has broken off from the yellow handle.
You should be able to remove the broken piece from the tube with a small needle nose pliers. You can then put a new one in: 04593604AA Oil Dipstick 4.0 for 2008-2010 Chrysler Town and Country, 07-08 Chrysler Pacifica, 07-11 Dodge Nitro, 08-10 Dodge Grand Caravan 4.0L Engine Oil Dipstick Fluid Level Indicator Oil Dip Stick a.co/d/hxU495Q
@@TheLawnEngineer there is no yellow circle anywhere. So it’s not under any cover? I am a leg amputee but I will try my best to go look at it tomorrow thank you
@@brendamasonakagrandma6412 then it might be as simple as someone forgot to put it back. There should be small metal tube sticking up in the front of the engine where it slides in .
@@TheLawnEngineer ok thank you
hello. where is the fuel filter??thanks.i am fromm Germany
Great question, I can’t even find one for sale. I’ll have a look on the vehicle and see if I can find anything
With respect, there are multiple positions where the O-ring will fit. Two of them are wrong and will result in major oil leaks. Only one is correct. Some UA-cam research will show which one it is. Cheers.
Yes, many ways to put the o-ring on incorrectly…only one right way.
I live in israel .. very hot +30 +38
Maby for my pacifica better 5w30?
In general, it’s best to run the highest viscosity that will flow properly through the oil passages. You should be better with 5w-30 but the only one that could truly answer is a Chrysler design engineer or someone who has tested the engine with 5w-30.
Easiest video on the internet
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
First!!
Gold medal for you!
How did you change the Oil change warning signal on the dash display?
Without the vehicle running, turn the ignition on. Use the controls on the steering wheel to navigate to the oil life menu, hold ok to reset.
What jack do you use??
Just a quick pump floor jack, remember to use jacks stands with whatever jack you use.
@@TheLawnEngineer I wanted to know the capacity of the jack to get.
@@rhaydsouza0912 mine is 1.5 ton capacity. I would recommend 1.5 ton or greater.
The oil filter is on the top and the dip stick tube is on the top. It's a perfect opportunity to never have to even jack up the car and get dirty. Just extract it with a vacuum pump like the mityvac and call it a day. Piece of cake. Better yet get a 20,000 mile oil filter like the Fram Ultra Platinum and you can change oil without touching the filter for at least 2 oil changes.
Yes a vacuum pump is always an option. Thanks for checking in 👍
0W-20 for this engine is joke. It's to meet fuel efficiency benchmarks from the EPA. This engine needs 5W-30 for longevity.
It is definitely for economy. In general, the best viscosity is the highest that can be circulated properly. The trouble is, the oil passages and pump are designed for the specified viscosity. I’m sure 5w-30 is fine for all non-arctic climates.
@@TheLawnEngineer thanks for replying!
