Hoya addiction is real. 😂 I know i can't buy them all so I'm just trying to keep my collection diverse and not buy different varieties of the same plant. I did buy my gracilis, sarawak, and burtoniae bc of you. 😊 I still have several on my wishlist. I'd recommend hoya heushkeliana variegata and h. quinquinervia. I love mine so much! I bought those two because of wildfern. UA-camrs are dangerous for my wallet. 😂
Hey Claire! I love your videos and watch all of them! I am generally not very active in the comments but there are a couple of tings I felt like I should mention here for future reference. The hoya latifolia species has thousands of cultivars actually, so I would say there is no 'true latifolia', they are all latifolias. So your hoya latifolia (sarawak) is named as such because that specific latifolia came from the Sarawak region. You can add description of the specific cultivars inside the bracket, but they are not part of the hoya name. As for the hoya latifolia (macrophylla red), the 'red' would come from the colour of the flowers, and not the leaf colour. Like other latifolia cultivars, more light would sunstress the plant more where less light means less sunstress. Some cultivars sunstress more readily than others, for example hoya latifolia (sp. IV from WMZ) sunstresses more readily. On the other hand, there are actual macrophyllas in the world but the ones in circulation were studied and then reclassified as latifolia. So, for example, the plant you call macrophylla red is actually a hoya latifolia (macrophylla red). Similarly, the macrophylla albomarginata is actually a hoya latifolia (outer variegated). Also, the parasitica were also reclassified as verticllata, so the correct way to write the name for the parasitica black margin would be hoya verticillata (black margin). Loads of others like hoya acuta were also reclassified as verticillata too. I know it's confusing, but there is more that you learn every day in tthe hoya world. The 'cultivation names' are different to standard names and the growers generally come up with them. Take Susie Q for example, there is actually 'true' hoya susie q which is in fact a hybrid of hoya carnosa (outer variegated) and hoya carnosa (krinkle 8). However, no hybrid hoyas can be variegated, they will have green leaves to the best of my knowledge. The variegation on hoyas are man-made through chemical inducing/ radiation. The general guess in the hoya community about the 'susie q' in circulation is that it is just a hoya carnosa (outer variegted) with much more crinkly leaf, much like the structural difference between your and your mom's carnosa (krinkle 8).
The Hoya Caudata Sumatra is one of my absolute favorite hoyas. I LOVE the texture and prehistoric look of the leaves. I absolutely love the look of them!
I came across isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. It has been a game changer for mealy bugs! It’s easier and I find they are much more controlled after spraying.
I learned recently from a Plant With Roos video that the hoya bella albomarginata also goes by the name hoya bella anneke buis and that it is named after one of two sisters from the Buis Family that cultivated it. The inner variegated one is named after the other sister - hoya bella lida buis.
Hey Claire! I use rope type hangers for some of my Hoya like you have and I trellis my Hoyas up the ropes. My Chelsea is loving it! Just another option. Keep the videos coming!
Also, neem oil. It's amazing for mealybugs (& most pests). It's a natural alternative to pesticides - the layer of oil basically suffocates pests but ALSO prevents them from being able to eat once the plant absorbs the oil. Highly recommend giving it a go!
@@LadyMordhausas a preventative, I use Capt Jacks neem oil in a ready to use spray. When I receive a new plant, I spray each leaf, then wipe all the nooks and crannies using a microfiber glove. Every other month, I give the leaves a quick re-spray so any new growth is treated
Love your choices! Just extra reminder, the Mathilde didn't need more than reg humidity, and avoid mix soil or half perlite works great. Leave it alone once set up trellis, and it does great in a window.
I just love your videos! I have now started a Hoya obsession bc of u! 😂 I only had one, which is the Hoya queen. Love her ❤ I am now getting soon the Hoya rope and the crinkle 😊🪴🌱
Hoyas!!!! Beautiful Hoyas!!!! I love how you compared your hoyas to those online. So many varieties!!! All your hoyas look so happy and healthy. Well done!!! Is Hoya - Suzy Q named after Suzy Quatro. If yes, Cool!!! 😎
Would love a video on flat mites! I think that may be my current plague and I don’t know how to get rid of them!! Also!! I totally have a Pubicalyx Hawaiian, my new growth comes in that gorgeous purpley maroon! 😍
Lovely long hoya video 😍 So my fav's from your collection are your hoya sarawak and your hoya Wilbur graves, but they're out of my price range/very hard to get hold of so I just ordered a hoya macrophyla variegata cutting as yours looked so pretty 😁
I just ordered a Sarawak from a small plant business in California, not sure where your located but is was $35 and I have 3 separate cuttings in it ❤ CaliplantCo is her plant company name and her plants mailed in superb condition !!
I too have a Macrophylla Albomarginata and I love her. She was my birthday gift this January year and her growth really took off in April. She is looking magnificent now
I love the Hoya retusa, it looks like little green fireworks on my window, it is such an easy trailing plant, It is growing easily and had no issue so far.....
I have my hoya mathilde on a trelis in the window sill and it is the easiest plant. I own her for about 6 moths and it flowered already and when I bought her, she had almost no roots. So I think it will do amazing things for you. ☺
Lovely hour of hoya deliciousness, thank you! I've recently caught the hoya bug hard and got a bit of a cuttings haul. The caudata sumatra was one of them and its the one I'm most nervous about! Its currently in my cabinet where other hoyas are doing well so 🤞
My Carnosas has soft and fuzzy tendrils too.. They're dark maroon brown in color and the fuzz goes away as it's hardening off. :) Beautiful Hoyas you've got! ✨✨👌🏻👌🏻
I’m definitely in my Hoya era right now! Love, love them! With the Khroniana Super Silver, definitely treat for pests but maybe it’s not getting enough water? I would try putting in semi hydro and pop it in a higher humidity situation until it bounces back, obviously if pests aren’t the issue! I’ve had to do this with a few of my Hoya when they started looking kind of shriveled and dehydrated like that
I loved seeing all the Hoyas and noticed that I have several of the ones you mentioned. Definitely give your black margin more light and you may notice more consistent growth as well as the return of the black margin. Mine loves its west facing window, trellis and stakes.
Would love a video on how you’ve been propagating your Hoya. I recently got a Hoya Matilde splash and a Wilber graves and I’m terrified of trying to cut and propagate them. I don’t want to end up killing the whole plant
I had to stop watching so I could talk about trellises. 😂 Here are two things I’ve done recently that I love, and that don’t look like a standard trellis: 1) I have thrifted lots of wooden and bamboo embroidery hoops of various sizes. My large carnosa is in a hanging pot. I suspended an extra large embroidery hoop halfway between the hook it’s hanging on and the pot, so that there is a floating circle all the way around the pot, and I trellised all the vines on that. I love the look of it. I have a small shepherdii in another hanging pot, and I just rested a smaller embroidery hoop on the soil of the pot so the circle hangs primarily below the pot. That one also looks so good to me. The long leaves dangling down give it an almost dripping effect, like I painted the circle with a brush that I hadn’t dabbed off properly, and so there are little rivulets of paint all around. 2) I placed my large pubicalyx pot in one of the wire baskets that are meant to hang outside with a moss liner and wound the tendrils around the different spokes of the basket. I’ve had That basket for a while to try using as a trellis, but it took me a long time to figure out exactly how I wanted to use it. But I love it! It creates kind of a whirlwind effect around the pot. Something I intend to to in the future when some of my newer hoya are ready for trellises is to put them on some gnarly branches and pieces of driftwood I have. I’m really looking forward to that.
Yay! A hoya video. I very much enjoyed it ❤ I have a lot of these on my wish list as well. I have 2 HUGE carnosas on my balcony, its the main one they sell at the nursery in my area. I recently found an importer of hoya so i've been making a list.
I'm being won over - I thought i didn't appreciate Hoyas as a genus because I'd only seen ones that looked really dry or matt but these all look so lush and shiny. I think I will be embracing some to try
Love all your hoyas 🌱🪴 I've also was heaving problems with my bella getting dehydrated and sad it turned out the rots where not existing any more 😢 I suspect a dry rot so I took lots of cuttings and trying to reroot , good luck with your xx
Love your hoyas!! I have a lot of the same hoyas and I love them. I really want a bella and a elliptica!! Right now I am loving my retusa and it's cute little blooms also I think the fishtail is amazing.
The difference between a hoya pubicalyx and a Royal Hawaiian purple is the bloom not the leaves. The Hawaiian purple has purple flowers 😉 I have two "non" Hawaiian and my new leaves come in a deep purple maroon color like yours... just an fyi😊 also, light levels can affect the bloom color, so maybe the plant you showed with different flower colors has different light on different parts. If you, look it up, hoya macrophylla has been re-classed as lattifolia. Maybe this will help you research yours more effectively? You have some gorgeous hoyas, thanks for sharing ❤
The planthobby started with syngonium because they are beautiful and grow so easy. But after several thrips attacks the anthuriums are now favourites. Never had any pests on them and such stunning leaves.
You mention chopping and propping plants to combine them into a 'full plant' quite a lot, and I wondered if you've ever noticed that that might inhibit growth? I'm not sure if that's just a myth I've heard
You should listen to the let’s talk Hoya podcast it answers all your questions about Hoya krohiana/lacunosa. It’s actually very complicated and you cant necessarily tell by leaf shape 😂
when it comes to botany, it is all about flowers, foliage doesnt really matter as much as flowers in identification of plants, especially similar plants.
Oh my Hoya's are a magnet for Mellies. I do not really care for them. They are stringy and grow so slow. Great job on keeping your healthy! Yours looks great. A BOBBY POT lol
She Claire, I love your videos! I was just today gifted a ton of rather large cuttings of different Hoyas! I am on the mission to figure out what they are. I was told, but they weren’t labeled. I am a Hoya new by, please wish me luck!!!!
I twist my mind around every time I’m trellising. From the TOP is the answer. And plants do sense gravity, so it actually makes sense. Hope that helps.
Hi Claire (and Yoli)! Aoife (and my dog Izzy) from Dublin here. firstly thank you so much for your videos, only discovered your channel recently, absolutely love it! So helpful. Just wondering if you have any particular tips for a Hoya black cat? I literally got one today it’s just a two leaf cutting so I want to give it the best chance possible. Thank you 😀
I've actually only just got one, but the standard callistophylla loves bright indirect light, high humidity (not essential but will help), warmth and a good balance of nutrients
Your Lacunosa Supereskimo looks a bit thirsty. Lacunosas like slightly more water than other hoyas. I would bottom-water it at least once so that she has a good drink. Unles you've checked with your finger and the soil is moist.
I am just wondering: aren’t there any beneficial mites or bugs to use against flat mites and mealy bugs? The beneficials against thrips work amazing for me 🤓
I wonder why Suzy Q is wound clockwise around the pole. Did you not say they need to go anti-clockwise? PS, do get the variegated Burtonii sp. aff. They are cute!
It is pretty easy to find but I love my Sweet Heart Hoya. I have an actual cutting with a node and I am waiting for a new leaf. I just got it so it may take a while. Suggestions on water and light?😊
@@jcb5280 thank you. I have been waiting for it to dry out between watering. I tend to overwater. So I’m trying to avoid that. Thank you for the tips. I think it needs more light than I have it in right now. I just don’t want to stress sun burn it.
Hi! I have the variegated Hoya Macrophila, it’s in a filtered window. The leaves get absolutely HUGE! I have leaves the size of my hand. It is root bound and doing well like that. I also put it in a terracotta pot.
Hello Claire! Where did you get your cabinet from? I’m in the US so I may not be able to find the exact one. If I can't obtain the same one you have, what do I need to look for when choosing a cabinet?
How on earth do you get Suzie Q to flower? Mine is a couple of years old, doing well, receiving plenty of light but hasnt flowered once :/ Do they require a darker period in order to bloom?
My lacunosa silver does the same as your krohniana silver. I did put it in pon but it staid the same. Now back in soil it grows and flowers but many leaves are shrinkled.
I have a Hoya that I have no idea what it is. If I send you pictures on insta do you think you and the community could help me out...? I've recently got into Hoya and I will take this moment to take the first step and admit I have a problem...I'm up to 25 in 6 mons. Videos like this fuel my addiction, no worries, I'm not mad about it. Your videos are always a joy.
Can I ask, do you use drainage holes for your semi hydro hoya? If so how often are you watering? Thinking about transferring some of mine over and was wondering how best to deal with the watering situation x
I don't have any drainage in the containers I'm using. I feel the reservoirs fairly shallow (usually at least a cm or two below where I pot the roots) 💚
So I googled it because I just got one as well-it suggests that the krohniana splash is the same as the lacunosa? I don’t really care too much because my goodness, what a beautiful plant, but I can see how not knowing exactly what it is could be frustrating.
Amazing Hoya collection. The globulosa i love it was on a hunt for it for ages. And I happen to met a planty friend who was getting rid of it. Got it as a two leaf cutting didn’t do anything for a year and this summer just burst with many new leaves. Which i was so happy about i think it was being neglected before. The Hoya Obovata Variegated i think i got a bad cutting didn’t do well and kept giving me wonky new leaves and variegations didn’t stay. The Hoya Wayetti variegated i had no luck with that one leaves kept staying limp and then just kinda shrivelled and died. I do want to own the Kentiana instead which is more pink in colour. Wilbur graves still want to own one with lots of silvery variegations. Hoya Mathilde is a cute one the splash one is even more amazing. Is such a fast growing. Hoys Krinkle 8 is s good with i love it looks like it has abs. Hoya Krimson Princess is my favourite. There are more good ones still you should get.
The super silver krohniana can be difficult. It likes more moist substrate, high light and hot humid conditions. I don’t grow mine in soil. It is in perlite/ vermiculite substrate but might do well in pon for you. The way it looks tell me it may have some root rot so I would inspect the roots. I hope it will do better for you.
Did you ever figure out what was wrong with your super silver?? I had the same issue with my regular splash one and she was also a HUGE plant (at least 5 feet long) and mine had dry rot/regular root rot 😢 as soon as I chopped and propped the entire plant, most of it plumped right back up after she got her roots back!
Hi Claire, absolutely love your hoyas video. Re the Wilbur Graves, do you know whether its a Russia or China variety. Thank you so much for all the info and experience. Peace
I love how you included the instagram footage and your reactions to the pictures and videos as well!! That was an awesome touch!!

Nice bit of information 👌🏽 👍🏼
I just watched that vid too!
I thought the Inner variegated is called Luis bois
How do Hoyas get named?
46:27 I had a Hindu Rope that looked like that. When I repotted it, it bounced right back. I think that the roots didn’t like the original soil.

Here are two things I’ve done recently that I love, and that don’t look like a standard trellis:

I’ve had That basket for a while to try using as a trellis, but it took me a long time to figure out exactly how I wanted to use it. But I love it! anti clockwise from the front of the plant or from the back? and how does the plant know which side is the right side?

Love it❤
Hey Claire, amazing hoya collection! I also love hoya❤ where do you buy your hoya from? (I'm also in the UK) thanks 😊
I just got one today! It was at Lowes and unmarked so now I know what it is!
Is that the Regular size of the Palmella (Treleaf) trellis? Thank you, love the video!
I would check the roots of that lacunosa. It's thirsty but can't take the water. Probably root rot.
I am obsessed with my caudata sumatra…. I have been trying to learn about the other caudata’s 💚🌱
@@TheJungleHaven ooh tysm I will do the same and not stress about it any more x
I have four hoyas: a reverse variegated kerrii, carnosa compacta variegata, australis Lisa, and wayetii tricolour. Mealy bugs! OMG!
I agree. It looks like root rot. Definitely check the roots.
Mine is growing fast in pon!
I’d love to try Soil Ninjas soils! They don’t yet ship to Canada 🇨🇦 😢
Hi Claire and Jolie. TFS
It's spelled "Suzie Q" not "Suzy Q" which is probably why there weren't any results for it. Super cute hoya regardless ☺
Great hoya collection ❤
Have you heard of a hoya curtis?.
I just got one an thats what everyone is saying it is.
It has tiny leaves an splotchy
I had several graciles cuttings and they all fail and rot in no time. got 2 alive and trying to keep them alive in pon but 0 growth
Hi Claire, absolutely love your hoyas video. Re the Wilbur Graves, do you know whether its a Russia or China variety. Thank you so much for all the info and experience. Peace
You should have your mum on sometime so we can meet her! And I would love to see her conservatory! We don’t really have them here.
I have a parasitica splash, but when I tried to look into it I think it was renamed to hoya verticillata?
Did you get rid of your Ondulata Red?😊
Trellis video please
The Hoya Pubicalyx Miami has pink flowers and the Royal Hawaiian Purple has darker flowers
Do you have a video on how to use the semi hydro
Top 25! 😆
