I came to faith in a Calvary Chapel who hold to a dispensational understanding of eschatology. I’ve since became a confessional Presbyterian and just smitten with the reformed view , especially taking into account a biblical theological understanding and it’s redemptive historical understanding of scripture . The continuity and clarity of scripture has just come alive in a new way . 🌷

I was taught dispensational theology at a Bible college but always felt it was filled with errors. On absolute essentials , historical Reformed and Lutherans differed only on the Lord's Supper during first 100 years of the Reformation. Overtime, both sides drifted off from original creeds/confessions as false teachers entered both denominations. Read first 100 years and you will ask "what in the world happened to my denomination?" :-) I am a Presbyterian btw.

I was raised to believe that the Left Behind series are fairly accurate and non controversial… now I’m trying to study other perspectives. It’s very very hard to even understand how other perspectives fit into the Bible. It’s not possible to read the Bible with fresh and unbiased eyes. Thanks for making this process easier for me!
Prof in college said that since Satan never knew when Christ would return, Satan must work really hard to constantly have an Anti-Christ ready to go for whenever Christ returns.
Very clear and refreshing presentation! The lighting looks good to me by the way. I tend to agree with all of your views, except for the intermediate state after death. I understand that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord". That is for those that are saved. For the lost, I believe to be absent from their body is to instantly be at the judgment day. Once we pass from this world in death, we are no longer subject to the dimension of time. So that when we die, we are instantly at the end of the world. It's like when Jesus told the thief on the cross "this day you shall be with me in paradise", he was saying that as far as that thief was concerned his next awareness after death would be paradise. No intermediate waiting place. Time, or the "5th dimension" is only part of this physical realm earth.

I grew up Christians reformed . After years of studying the bible for myself I understand the bible literally and seeing our globalist building their Babel empire and control . The bible make more sense under Calvary chapel churches. As long as your born again I see you in heaven !

Yes you can. I am part of a reformed church plant and we have many different believers in regards to that. There is no exclusion for someone’s “mill” view. Now you should expect to receive many suggestions and scriptural references to challenge that position, but hopefully is done lovingly and gracefully. Plus it will either sharpen your position or change it.
That is def a good start. Ask yourself what the different “mill” positions entail though. They really tell or depict how a person reads the Bible in accordance with the definition of Jesus’s return, reign and last days especially regarding his kingdom. I suggest learning all positions. Personally the Preterist reading in regards to the new testaments understanding of Covenant theology and Israel’s eschatology is the most consistent way of reading things. Then learning how to apply that in the new covenant reign of Jesus. I am not a Full Preterist in which the believe this is it and there is not a 2nd resurrection and end of history.
I have listened to many sermons and read many different positions in regards to how people read the book of revelation and the Bible as a whole. That is our battle of the day. Gary Demar and James Jordan are some of my favorites. James Jordan can be a bit controversial in certain reformed circles but I do believe they will help you get the best possible overview of the Bible plus get you to begin interpreting the Bible with the Bible on a grand scale.
The first Horseman of the apocalypse is said to have a bow, but no arrows. In Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance we see that the word bow has been translated from the word toxon. And they tell us that toxon means a bow as a simple piece of fabric. The first rider also wears a crown. What is another word for crown? Corona.
Can someone decipher this in terms of "mill" for me: "We believe in the personal, visible, imminent return of Christ to remove his church from the earth (1 Thess 4:16-17), before the tribulation (1 Thess 1:10, Rev 3:10). We believe Christ will then descend to earth with the church to establish a millenial kingdom (Rev 19:11-20:6)" That is from my church's Statement of Faith. I find the eschatology stuff confusing. Five hundred years ago, a group of Roman Catholics took issue with some foolishness being perpetrated onto their parishoners. It grew to a fever pitch. One leader began questioning the validity of certain NT books (James, the synoptic gospels.) Another began to react to bible texts on water baptism, and decided to drown the upstarts. Yet another was upset that his authority was challenged, and had his oppenent tortured and burned over a slow fire. In the ensuing years, as many as 15+ million people died in Europe.- the Reformation!
Calvinisim is a soteriology system, Presbyterianism is a Christian denomination which includes the calvinistic soteriology system and a elder managed ecclesiology. of course what i said is super simple, there are mores stuff but for now i think this could be a small good answer.
Just a comment on disparaging pre-millennialists: Pre-millenialist don’t change their view of pre-millennialism as the world unfolds, just how world events might fit the expectations. That is quite a bit different.

Proof of a pre trib rapture pay attention to the cloud and Clouds Jesus appears in. Act's chapter 1 verses 9 10 11 cloud. Luke chapter 21 verses 27 and 28 cloud. In Revelation chapter 1 verse 7 Jesus is coming with the Clouds.This is the second coming of Jesus. God bless.......
I think that you might need to read Matt 24 and think partial preterist view. Jesus did say that ALL these things would take place in the generation that He was speaking to. Otherwise I agree with your view on your Amillennial optimistic view since I believe that God is sovereign every moment of every day and that all the Elect will be saved through out the entire Church millennial age. All these things refers to the judgment on Jerusalem, not the second coming. Coming on the clouds of heaven refers to Dan 7:13 and going to heaven to reign after the ascension. Matt 24 says that it will feel like the second coming but it will not be. That comes later.
If a believer goes to heaven when they die then why does Jesus need to come back for resurrection of the righteous dead and transfiguration of the leaving?
The gospel will go out to all the gentiles (nations). Nations is translated “gentiles” more often than not in the New Testament. From a Jew’s perspective, nations and gentiles were the exact same thing due to their racism from being God’s chosen people, but Paul teaches us “not all Israel is Israel,” and therefore we get a hint of covenantal theology:) So, the postmil person believes that the gospel WILL and MUST reach every last gentile before the return of Christ. It doesn’t mean that they will be saved, but the gospel goes out anyways. Wow, what if we lived like this, with the great commission at the top of our minds everyday because we WANT Jesus to come back…

this is the one area i disagree with my reformed brothers. im very reformed in my soteriology, but i agree more with Macarthur on this topic as i take the parts of revelation that seem to be literal literally, but there are good bible believing brothers and sisters within all 4 main views on escatology and thankfully this is not a salvation issue
Pastor, where do you get this 'secret' rapture idea? All the prophecy teachers I listen to have not mention the word secret in their teachings of rapture. Maybe listen to Don Stewart, Dr Andy Woods, AJ Farag, Tom Hughes, Jan Marckell , Gary Hamrick, Jack Gibbs and hear the truths of God's word being taught. Everyone of them teach from the bible and I think you should listen to such teaching for your peace of mind.
Interesting. If you believe Jesus when he said that he did not know the specific day and hour of his coming; only the Father knew that; then why is it you do NOT believe the same Jesus when he said that it would occur "in this generation," the one he was living in? Isn't that kind of hypocritical?
You may know that something will occur within a generation yet not know the exact day and hour. Notice how all of Matthew 24 has come to pass. Jesus’ return , the nature of which is spiritual , not physical , has occurred and the everlasting kingdom is established and available to all who believe in him
Actually the bible says that THEY, the original readers, were in the last days. Nowhere does it say what we, 2000 years in the future, are in the last days. In fact the scriptures teach that the end of that age would come, and history records its demise in 70AD with the invasion, if you will, by the Romans leaving it totally destroyed.

Hi Matt. I am not arguing with your view in any way. I myself now believe in one return of Christ and not a two-parter. But I would like to make one point of clarification. I hear a lot of Reformed teachers say that dispys believe in a "secret" rapture. To be fair (and I have been in and around dispy churches for 30 years), I have never heard anyone speak of a "secret" rapture. I have heard probably hundreds of sermons on eschatology because they are completely obsessed with the topic. And every one I can ever remember was very clear that that the rapture was in no way secret. The whole world will know and witness the disappearance of millions of people. Also they conflate the 'rapture' with the resurrection, it happens at the same time (7 years before Christ's return in judgement). This 'resurrection of the just' will also be witnessed by millions of people supposedly. Anyway just wanted to make that little point of clarification. To my understanding what you just described is the “secret” rapture. Called that because Christ comes in “secret” and raptures the believing Christian’s. This wasn’t a popular eschatology until schofield pushed it in the schofield study Bible.
I stopped watching when he felt compelled to talk about his beard being trimmed. Please don't spoil a potentially good presentation with a narcissistic introduction. I'll continue the search for another presenter of the Reformed Biblical view on eschatology.
My biggest issue with amillennialism is the binding of Satan, since he's clearly been very active in his deception throughout the world since Christ's ascension. If his binding can't really be perceived by us here right now, then what's the point of even suggesting to us that he's bound? Having said that, I still see amillennialism as a definite possibility, even if I don't subscribe to it myself. However, no matter how I try to look at it I completely cannot understand post-millennialism and how people can think that way and assume that's the easiest or most likely scenario. If we have the capability to create a Christian utopia with the fortitude to last 1,000 years immediately preceding Christ's return, then why would we need him to return at all? By that point we'd be doing quite well for ourselves I myself am a post-trib pre-millenialist, but I will openly admit that I'm sure I'm wrong about some things just as we all are, and I am not married to those beliefs as foundations of my faith. I'm not one of those people who treats Left Behind as the 67th book of the scripture, and I tend to loathe discussion on millennialist beliefs as the person in the discussion with me will either BE one of those people or by default assume I myself am one of those people. It's never constructive
Please tell me what punishments are in store for those who are in Christ? Evaluating our lives is one thing but it has always been my understanding of Scripture that there are no “punishments” for those in Christ. Not to say that we can live our lives in sin, I would never wish to do that and absolutely we need to fight sin till we take our last breath but does His blood not cover us when we err??? I have lived in fear (and not a healthy godly fear) of God. It is my hope that I am covered by his blood, not to sin blatantly and without remorse, but when I fail it is my comfort to know I am not lost and not under condemnation and this has taken years and years for me to believe that God sees me as His. I believe His discipline of us is real, however, His discipline in this life and His punishment after death are not the same thing and the latter is not for believers in my understanding of Scripture. Please enlighten me if I am wrong and give me Scripture to back it up not the WCF.
just because people misuse dispensational theology does not disprove dispensational theology. most anti dispensationalists have no idea what dispensationalism really is and most youtubers about dispensationalism are mis teaching it or mis representing it.

In kindness according to scripture some of your beliefs are wrong. Study carefully God’s word, not man’s denomination doctrines. The whole Bible is Jesus’ story & it’s understanding has to be pieced together like a puzzle -- precept upon precept, here a little, there a little.
These different views of Christians is just a mess. Whose version of Christianity is right? You disagree with them, and they with you. You know when we find out which view...if any...is right? When we die. If we believe the wrong view or make a mistake, follow the wrong preacher we may face Hell. That doesn't seem fair. Obviously you, and every other preacher thinks their view is right.
@winters556 No, we don’t accept theological views purely based on tradition. We also shouldn’t easily reject a view that has been held throughout history. When it comes to historical views, we must very carefully and thoroughly study these things. But if that tradition or that view goes against Scripture, we must reject it.

The dispensational rapture as seen in relation to Christ's return is "secret" because nobody will see Him. So, to the dispensationalists the rapture is not the actual 2nd coming Christ but a "secret" coming. The dispensationalists believe the actual 2nd coming of Christ occurs at the end of the tribulation. I hope this clears things up. I understand these things because I used to be a hardline dispensationalist.
paul calls the "catching up of believers" the blessed hope a mystery. he also calls israels future salvation a mystery. The mystery of Gods will to unite all things in heaven and earth a mystery. the mystery of lawlessness, mystery babylon, the fellowship of the mystery(the church) the mystery of Godliness (God was manifest in the flesh, seen of angels, justified in the Spirit) the trinune nature of God
I would call you a partial futurist ... I recommend a book ... Victorious Eschatology ... eye opener viewed with eastern mind and based on history of the jews and early christians ... you will never read Matt 24 and revelation the same again ...
As for heaven & hell? I do not object to scriptural descriptions of hell. However, Dante' is not scripture. How much of "Heaven" is really a description Not of "Heaven,"but of The New. Jerusalem?" As for eternal torture for unbelievers, I cannot welcome the love of a sadistic torturer...
the westminster confession is wrong in its statement "the ten commandments are binding for believers" this is simply a lie. "the law of the spirit of christ in life in christ jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death" "we have not come to mt sinai" "we have come to mt zion" sinai is where the ten commandments were received.

Very clear and refreshing presentation! The lighting looks good to me by the way. I tend to agree with all of your views, except for the intermediate state after death. I understand that "to be absent from the body is to be present with the lord". That is for those that are saved. For the lost, I believe to be absent from their body is to instantly be at the judgment day. Once we pass from this world in death, we are no longer subject to the dimension of time. So that when we die, we are instantly at the end of the world. It's like when Jesus told the thief on the cross "this day you shall be with me in paradise", he was saying that as far as that thief was concerned his next awareness after death would be paradise. No intermediate waiting place. Time, or the "5th dimension" is only part of this physical realm earth.

Yes you can. I am part of a reformed church plant and we have many different believers in regards to that. There is no exclusion for someone’s “mill” view. Now you should expect to receive many suggestions and scriptural references to challenge that position, but hopefully is done lovingly and gracefully. Plus it will either sharpen your position or change it.

That is def a good start. Ask yourself what the different “mill” positions entail though. They really tell or depict how a person reads the Bible in accordance with the definition of Jesus’s return, reign and last days especially regarding his kingdom. I suggest learning all positions. Personally the Preterist reading in regards to the new testaments understanding of Covenant theology and Israel’s eschatology is the most consistent way of reading things. Then learning how to apply that in the new covenant reign of Jesus. I am not a Full Preterist in which the believe this is it and there is not a 2nd resurrection and end of history.
I have listened to many sermons and read many different positions in regards to how people read the book of revelation and the Bible as a whole. That is our battle of the day. Gary Demar and James Jordan are some of my favorites. James Jordan can be a bit controversial in certain reformed circles but I do believe they will help you get the best possible overview of the Bible plus get you to begin interpreting the Bible with the Bible on a grand scale.

Just a comment on disparaging pre-millennialists: Pre-millenialist don’t change their view of pre-millennialism as the world unfolds, just how world events might fit the expectations. That is quite a bit different.

Proof of a pre trib rapture pay attention to the cloud and Clouds Jesus appears in. Act's chapter 1 verses 9 10 11 cloud. Luke chapter 21 verses 27 and 28 cloud. In Revelation chapter 1 verse 7 Jesus is coming with the Clouds.This is the second coming of Jesus. God bless.......
I think that you might need to read Matt 24 and think partial preterist view. Jesus did say that ALL these things would take place in the generation that He was speaking to. Otherwise I agree with your view on your Amillennial optimistic view since I believe that God is sovereign every moment of every day and that all the Elect will be saved through out the entire Church millennial age.

All these things refers to the judgment on Jerusalem, not the second coming. Coming on the clouds of heaven refers to Dan 7:13 and going to heaven to reign after the ascension. Matt 24 says that it will feel like the second coming but it will not be. That comes later.
If a believer goes to heaven when they die then why does Jesus need to come back for resurrection of the righteous dead and transfiguration of the leaving?

The gospel will go out to all the gentiles (nations). Nations is translated “gentiles” more often than not in the New Testament. From a Jew’s perspective, nations and gentiles were the exact same thing due to their racism from being God’s chosen people, but Paul teaches us “not all Israel is Israel,” and therefore we get a hint of covenantal theology:) So, the postmil person believes that the gospel WILL and MUST reach every last gentile before the return of Christ. It doesn’t mean that they will be saved, but the gospel goes out anyways. Wow, what if we lived like this, with the great commission at the top of our minds everyday because we WANT Jesus to come back…

this is the one area i disagree with my reformed brothers. im very reformed in my soteriology, but i agree more with Macarthur on this topic as i take the parts of revelation that seem to be literal literally, but there are good bible believing brothers and sisters within all 4 main views on escatology and thankfully this is not a salvation issue

Pastor, where do you get this 'secret' rapture idea? All the prophecy teachers I listen to have not mention the word secret in their teachings of rapture. Maybe listen to Don Stewart, Dr Andy Woods, AJ Farag, Tom Hughes, Jan Marckell , Gary Hamrick, Jack Gibbs and hear the truths of God's word being taught. Everyone of them teach from the bible and I think you should listen to such teaching for your peace of mind.

You may know that something will occur within a generation yet not know the exact day and hour. Notice how all of Matthew 24 has come to pass. Jesus’ return , the nature of which is spiritual , not physical , has occurred and the everlasting kingdom is established and available to all who believe in him
Actually the bible says that THEY, the original readers, were in the last days. Nowhere does it say what we, 2000 years in the future, are in the last days. In fact the scriptures teach that the end of that age would come, and history records its demise in 70AD with the invasion, if you will, by the Romans leaving it totally destroyed.

Hi Matt. I am not arguing with your view in any way. I myself now believe in one return of Christ and not a two-parter. But I would like to make one point of clarification. I hear a lot of Reformed teachers say that dispys believe in a "secret" rapture. To be fair (and I have been in and around dispy churches for 30 years), I have never heard anyone speak of a "secret" rapture. I have heard probably hundreds of sermons on eschatology because they are completely obsessed with the topic. And every one I can ever remember was very clear that that the rapture was in no way secret. The whole world will know and witness the disappearance of millions of people. Also they conflate the 'rapture' with the resurrection, it happens at the same time (7 years before Christ's return in judgement). This 'resurrection of the just' will also be witnessed by millions of people supposedly. Anyway just wanted to make that little point of clarification. To my understanding what you just described is the “secret” rapture. Called that because Christ comes in “secret” and raptures the believing Christian’s. This wasn’t a popular eschatology until schofield pushed it in the schofield study Bible.
I stopped watching when he felt compelled to talk about his beard being trimmed. Please don't spoil a potentially good presentation with a narcissistic introduction. I'll continue the search for another presenter of the Reformed Biblical view on eschatology.

My biggest issue with amillennialism is the binding of Satan, since he's clearly been very active in his deception throughout the world since Christ's ascension. If his binding can't really be perceived by us here right now, then what's the point of even suggesting to us that he's bound?
Having said that, I still see amillennialism as a definite possibility, even if I don't subscribe to it myself. However, no matter how I try to look at it I completely cannot understand post-millennialism and how people can think that way and assume that's the easiest or most likely scenario. If we have the capability to create a Christian utopia with the fortitude to last 1,000 years immediately preceding Christ's return, then why would we need him to return at all? By that point we'd be doing quite well for ourselves
I myself am a post-trib pre-millenialist, but I will openly admit that I'm sure I'm wrong about some things just as we all are, and I am not married to those beliefs as foundations of my faith. I'm not one of those people who treats Left Behind as the 67th book of the scripture, and I tend to loathe discussion on millennialist beliefs as the person in the discussion with me will either BE one of those people or by default assume I myself am one of those people. It's never constructive

Please tell me what punishments are in store for those who are in Christ? Evaluating our lives is one thing but it has always been my understanding of Scripture that there are no “punishments” for those in Christ. Not to say that we can live our lives in sin, I would never wish to do that and absolutely we need to fight sin till we take our last breath but does His blood not cover us when we err??? I have lived in fear (and not a healthy godly fear) of God. It is my hope that I am covered by his blood, not to sin blatantly and without remorse, but when I fail it is my comfort to know I am not lost and not under condemnation and this has taken years and years for me to believe that God sees me as His. I believe His discipline of us is real, however, His discipline in this life and His punishment after death are not the same thing and the latter is not for believers in my understanding of Scripture. Please enlighten me if I am wrong and give me Scripture to back it up not the WCF.

In kindness according to scripture some of your beliefs are wrong. Study carefully God’s word, not man’s denomination doctrines. The whole Bible is Jesus’ story & it’s understanding has to be pieced together like a puzzle -- precept upon precept, here a little, there a little.
These different views of Christians is just a mess. Whose version of Christianity is right? You disagree with them, and they with you. You know when we find out which view...if any...is right? When we die. If we believe the wrong view or make a mistake, follow the wrong preacher we may face Hell. That doesn't seem fair. Obviously you, and every other preacher thinks their view is right.
You don't go to hell for theological convictions, your destination is determined by your salvation. And those who are saved can still be wrong.
@winters556 No, we don’t accept theological views purely based on tradition. We also shouldn’t easily reject a view that has been held throughout history. When it comes to historical views, we must very carefully and thoroughly study these things. But if that tradition or that view goes against Scripture, we must reject it.

It won’t be a secret when Millions of people disappear. I’m going through the Bible with Dr. J Vernon McGee and he’s very careful To not go to extremes.
The dispensational rapture as seen in relation to Christ's return is "secret" because nobody will see Him. So, to the dispensationalists the rapture is not the actual 2nd coming Christ but a "secret" coming. The dispensationalists believe the actual 2nd coming of Christ occurs at the end of the tribulation. I hope this clears things up. I understand these things because I used to be a hardline dispensationalist.

The mystery of Gods will to unite all things in heaven and earth a mystery. the mystery of lawlessness, mystery babylon, the fellowship of the mystery(the church) the mystery of Godliness (God was manifest in the flesh, seen of angels, justified in the Spirit) the trinune nature of God

As for heaven & hell? I do not object to scriptural descriptions of hell. However, Dante' is not scripture. How much of "Heaven" is really a description Not of "Heaven,"but of The New. Jerusalem?" As for eternal torture for unbelievers, I cannot welcome the love of a sadistic torturer...
the westminster confession is wrong in its statement "the ten commandments are binding for believers" this is simply a lie. "the law of the spirit of christ in life in christ jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death" "we have not come to mt sinai" "we have come to mt zion" sinai is where the ten commandments were received.

The Dispensationalists are required to go into all kinds of gymnastic gyrations of English language usage in order to make their point of view. It get comical at times watching them sweat.
Based on the Puritans hope as post mill and seeing the world today this view doesn’t seem promising or realistic.
