New Ball Joint from 1AAuto.com 1aau.to/ia/1ASBJ00184
Modern suspensions combine a number of moving parts for safe and stable handling. The ball joint is the crucial moving component that ties those parts together. The ball-in-socket joint can wear out and loosen over time. Or, the rubber protective boot can tear, allowing contaminants to seize the joint. Bad ball joints are a common failure point on vehicle inspections because they lead to unsafe driving conditions. Fortunately, they are relatively easy to replace with the right know-how. This video shows you how to install new, quality TRQ ball joints on your 2004-2008 Ford F150.

Great video, I have a 2WD so this was absolutely perfect for me.
Other tutorials applied either Permatex sleeve retainer paste or Loctite 609 (the green kind) to the ball joint before pressing into the control arm - not sure whether to do that or not.
UPDATE: So I didn't use any type of paste before pressing in the lower ball joint - it was all good, just cleaned the hole with brake cleaner. Also, the lower ball joint nut on my truck was a 24mm not 21mm. I'm also going to go out on a limb and let ya'll know that if you've got squeaking then be prepared to shell out an additional $80 for an upper control arm because both upper and lower ball joints are probably bad. I have a 2006 Ford F-150 2WD with a 4.6 v8 and I had to buy a whole upper control arm because you can't change the upper ball joint. When you replace the upper arm be aware that you'll have to remove the strut spring assembly to remove the long bolts(21mm) holding both sides of the arm, this requires a 30mm socket for the big bottom bolt and 15mm socket for the 3 bolts on top.
Did this repair in 2022/almost 2023
Loosen upper nuts of suspension, remove if needed
Loosen upper control arm nut
If doing lower ball joint loosen ball joint nut
Yes take off brakes caliper or whole assembly is fine
Now remove which ever nut you need
And lift where needed
If doing both just tie to front of truck
To remove upper control arm use wrenches and a pry bar to make room, we used wood to keep the space
And whala space to work
Great job and he explained really well i will totally recommend this video as people who wants to learn how to change lower ball joints....
I have bought good quality parts from 1AAuto that is TRQ. Your videos are so very helpful! Thank you for what you do 1AAuto and TRQ
Great video TRQ greetings from the United states virgin islands in the carribbean us territory st.thomas I am new to this channel and i was watching the video about changing inner and outer tie rod ends and I did the repairs myself and everything went smooth. Great job thank you
This video is awesome 👏
Great video
Great video. Description says lower ball joint why the tie rod adjustment nut loosening?
Faster great job master!👍
Great vid. Thx u
when doing these videos you should do it on a vehicle with old parts. anybody can change a new part without rust.
I guess you have done this once before good job and thanks
Good video. You forgot to retighten the locknut on the outer tie rod though. Otherwise a good job and helpful video.
That's exactly what I want to mention.
Probably because he has to do an alignment on it after any front end work. At my shop I always leave the lock nuts loose and go to the alignment rack.
Thanks pice of cake great job 🎉
How do you add grease to these ball joints?
would you be doing this a little different for 4 wheel drive and the IWE vacuum line
I have no idea why you would even loosen the locknut for the tierod . There's no reason to loosen it . Other then that it's a nice video .
I didn't and it turned out just fine. Also, I pulled the ABS sensor out of the knuckle with a 5mm socket instead of undoing all of the wire harnessing.
Is better to only change ball join or change control arm also we ball join?
As clear as fresh water from mountain. Thanks
+Tami Ibrock Thanks for watching our video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
BONK DAT TING!! Yeah baby!!!
I see all the parts listed except for the magic cups. Where would one find those? Otherwise, great video.
I always have fun changing a tire on the side of the road with these Ford lug nuts having to be torqued to 150 ft lbs.
Why loosen the jam nut on the tie rod?
I didn't loosen mine. But in having trouble getting the wheel off the bottom bolt of the ball joint
He grabbed pliers just to hit the cotter pin
Ummm great but why not use a rubber mallet instead of solid metal or iron to solid metal Ik I’m not the one doing the work but the loud banging of metal to metal is hectic overall I feel like this mechanic did great in explaining everything if it was a grade I’d give a 100 or A+ but I think I’ll just pay someone seems like too much work for me I like doing simple car stuff
The NAPA Ford F150 upper ball joint boots will NOT go on without a special install tool, channel locks will destroy your BOOT.
Just replace the entire lower control arm
Where is the C V Axle
+Milton Graham Thanks for watching! This is a 2WD truck so there is no front CV axle.
Looks easy enough but takes at least $200 in tools just to do.
The sho in my area charging $679 for this job and alignment
bad how to. No need to loosen the tie rod nut. Broke the retainers for the abs sensor so it flops around the wire cuts itself on the liner or metal parts.
U completely slipped the part where u have to separate the CV shaft from the steering knuckle. The video skips to where your removing the lower ball joint and the CV shaft is already separated. U cannot do this job with removing the CV shaft from the steering knuckle but somehow u guys think u did. Boo
I'm not seeing a cv shaft. I think this is a 2 wheel drive truck
It is a 2wd .
Completely different steering knuckle and bearing assembly but still the same assembly basically for a 4x4
But yes removal of the front cv axle is mundane
