Kamehame-How I sculpted Goku in Blender

  • Today we're sculpting Goku from DBZ in Blender!
    We're going for a style from back when the dbz art was all nice and soft looking. There's a lot of nice round inflated shapes that should be fun to sculpt and a cool looking reddish color scheme to shoot for. We're also gonna sculpt the plateau he's standing on and try and figure out how to make his flaming red aura.

    sculpt is great and all, but the real unsung hero of this vid is the editing. especially the turn table section. the sound track + the super aggressive cuts and angle switches really made the 10 year old within me, playing those earlier DBZ games, smile.

    Also, I agree, the Era of DB to early DBZ was the best because of how smooth it looked which I rather loved, and you did an amazing job not just sculpting Goku but also the details!

    so that's why we need more male model, this is by far my favorite project of yours so far bran, totally epic hopefully we'll get maybe a 50/50 ratio between male and female, that would be super dope !

    you can use lightpath as a FAC for a mix color on the world shader. Then you have two colors, one visible, and one for the ambient coloring of the meshes. For the sky thing. that would've been faster than the inverted sphere

    LOVE IT! Love watching your progression in Blender. I remember getting into Sculpting via Blender cuz Zbrush was (and still is) daunting AF. But I took a looong break after a while. I want to get back into it. In the meantime, I've been focusing on Animation. I wish the sculpting/texturing/rigging process didn't take sooo long but I know the final results are well worth it. Cheers!

    If I remember correctly, use a Light Path node and "Is Camera Ray" as the factor for a Mix Shader in the World shader to make the the background not affect the the shading of anything else.

  • @thewinepot
    @thewinepot Рік тому +2

    You had a pretty creative fix for your HDRI issue! Something that I always do for my scenes to make it so that the background image does not affect the lighting of a scene is using camera ray light paths. You grab a mix color node, plug it into the background shader. Search for light paths, plug in "is camera ray" into the fac of the mix node. And then you can have your lighting be one color (or multiple) in the A slot, while you plug in whatever you want into the B slot and that'll act as your background image without affecting your lighting.

  • @nook2726
    @nook2726 Рік тому +6

    Looks incredible! Your ability to sculpt such defined shapes complex's me... How do you sculpt such clean, refined muscles and edges that are so satisfying to the eye!?!?! Also, I thought you may want to know that you can actually just do a highpoly bake which involves using normal maps that can give the actual illusion of the sculpt being highpoly but only being as geometry compact as your posing mesh! This way, You wont have to pose and then do a final highpoly sculpt, you could just bake that highpoly sculpt into it making it look exactly like the highpoly mesh but be able to pose it if you so choose, this would definitely come in handy if you ever wanted to reuse any of your creations also! I highly suggest using substance painter for baking (takes SOME getting use to because some geometry reflects onto each other but its a simple fix by separating the meshes when baking!) but substance painter is definitely pricey so for a more cost affective approach, I believe blender has a baking system built in, how long it takes to bake will depend on the density of your highpoly!

    • @BranSculpts
      @BranSculpts  Рік тому +3

      oh mann, I've been wanting to get into substance but man, another program to learn :S I wonder if that stylized station course is worth it...

    • @nook2726
      @nook2726 Рік тому

      I'm unsure I didn't watch the course myself but if it helps, the workflow is primarily that of just overlays! Once you know the basics its fairly simple from there, you'll just have to practice then! You'll need to learn how to use a black mask with layers and then learn about what can spawn from such, like generators, fills, filters and a lot more! It's all fairly simple though, you can usually get a footing of what a feature is, in at most one UA-cam video that's 2 minutes long! I believe you get a 3 month or 1 month free trial so if you think you can learn that fast I highly suggest!@@BranSculpts

    Yo can you give me any tips on how you got so good in one year? Like how long did you spend practicing? Did you have to learn anatomy?

      This is a video on the tutorials I followed in my first month ua-cam.com/video/ho2bw7mgmRc/v-deo.html
      After that I did 1-2 sculpts per month, trying new things out with each one. As for anatomy, I'm not that great at it. I just look up references for things I'm trying to figure out.
