I've watched this so many times and it's still exciting to come back and see it yet again. I was a design intern at Nest and got to see Tony often. I even remember when this was being filmed in our office in Palo Alto. I've always loved watches and I even got to see Tony wearing several of these pieces throughout my internship. Tony helped shape some of my interest in watch brands and I love coming back to this video every so often to admire his collection.
It is in more cases than one, obviously you have to for them to tick, but when I got the Omega SMP I couldn’t stand the look of the bracelet over pictures. I planned on getting a Planet Ocean 39.5mm. I tried it on, too thick on the wrist for me. I tried on the SMP and was surprised by the comfort and look. You truly do have to wear them before passing judgment. Now I love the bracelet.
Great conclusion about the younger generation. I'm 23 and bought my first (high end for me) Omega SMP. For me, it comes from the appreciation of craftsmanship and heritage the watch has. I don't buy a watch solely for its ability to tell time, I buy it because it's special.
Honestly, with ALL watches in ALL price tiers, there should be a signed legal agreement that you MUST wear your watch for at least 24 hours every month. So glad to see each of these beautiful pieces getting some good wrist time. Some more than others, but all well worn and more to the point, enjoyed. 👍🏼
If he was really so interested in technological innovation, he should have taken an interest in GS, or a planetarium by Van der Klaauw. The Lange is an excellent choice, love that watch.
Tony Fadel selection was just great. Except from the JL there is not one watch that he shows that I will not like to have... Great sensitivity for design, and perfect description of what is this watch bug thing about: you start by design, then you get marvelled by the mechanics.
his pateks and ALS are on avg 100k each.. less the minute repeater, that would be 1.5 million, just for ONE SINGLE PIECE. only the panerai, heuer and ikepod are less than 10k.
Wow.... I own the exact same ikepod hemipode. What he said about why he bought it is so similar to myself. I was in harrods London when I was I. My late teens... Saw one.. Loved how it looked. Just thought it was amazing.. Problem was the £2k or so price tag but always said I'd get one.. So a few years later I did. Now in my late 40s I still have it and love it's appearance
Agree that younger people really get interested in old style watches as long as they get educated by someone on it. The young generation is into it already ;-)
My most expensive 'watch' is $300 Garmin Instinct (I need the interaction with my phone for my Professional life)....... ......but GOD!.... These types of videos are so interesting. Come on Lotto!!! 💰💰💰💰
Ben, I am big fan of you. Just wanted to say that apart from liking this great video, you looked cool and handsome in the opening scene standing in front of Nest building :-)
Mechanical watches, especially the great brands, like those on the table in front of you, guys, they will be thriving more and more just because of what they are - mechanical. Digital watches and timpepieces are less and less attractive and usually attract the young generation that is inspired by the technology. But once you begin to appreciate a craftsmanship, there is where mechanical watches talk. Mechanical watches are timeless, more and more appreciated, more and more admired and all the more recognized. You always have a more refined taste to wear (and appreciate) a mechanical watch than a digital one. That makes a man more like a gentleman.
2022 has marked a great year for watch making so far. I’m not sure what brought it back, maybe the MoonSwatch, maybe the fact that watches keep ticking our entire lives when electronics run out of charge in a few days, they’re seen as investments, or maybe it’s the style. But they’ve hit back, it’s being talked about, and the years not even over yet.
+Oscar Brady it was leaked that tag heuer bought a seiko patent for a watch movement. As soon as it leaked they apoligized and said they would remove it. That shows you that they dont make "in house movements"
The biggest issue with smart watches is they obsolete them every 2 years... you might as well throw your money away... Those mechanical watches will outlast them all :)

that nautilus with all the scuffs and scratches is perfect
i hate seeing expensive watches not being worn, this was so nice to finally see someone with a well worn one
The watch is fucked up , I am no care put into it
@@VaradS Hi no care put into it, im Dad.
"You have to wear them" ... so true.

So that's where the Apple Watch Sport strap came from, Ikepod.
Marc Newson was involved with both, wasn't he?
yes he was
I realized that right away its so obvious.
"Patek minute repeater, perpetual calendar, monopusher"....You can wear this every day! LOL! Amazing.
He's got a 5208 & a Lange.... I cannot even comprehend owning watches like these. Yet still I'm glued to this stuff
The battle scars on that Patek are awesome. Don't buy it if you won't use it!!!
Absolutely agreed. No matter the cost or prestige

"splurge a little bit" = roughly $1m. good on ya lol
The Lange is the centerpiece of his collection in my opinion. One of the better Hodinkee Talking Watches.
Why was the minute wheel kinda misaligned though?
@@michaelh8854 possibly fake or one of those watches just used to advertisement (without the fixins)
That 5208 patek omg so nice...$1.15 mil watch
Binge watching this in 2020 :)
THAT LANGE...OMG!!!
I love that Ressence... One day I hope to own one
quality content! and benjamin's voice is so chill to listen to

Great job Tony making all these scuffs
One of my favourite episodes. Ages well.
Probably the best collection iv ever seen
$800 million net worth this guy
si es millonario y tiene una novia marroquí que vive en noruega debe ser porque es agotador escucharlo 😊😅😂
This is right up there with the best episodes
If he was really so interested in technological innovation, he should have taken an interest in GS, or a planetarium by Van der Klaauw. The Lange is an excellent choice, love that watch.
True gentleman! Other end of the spectrum from O'Leary. Great interview

That Monaco. Lovvvvee that piece.
Finally a decent watch collection, with a few cool and amazing piece in the midst of the usual rich stuff...
The Zeitwerk Phantom is probably the coolest watch I’ve ever seen
Fascinating guy.
Crazy how Apple bit that watchstrap it’s nice to know history sometimes
Love that he wears his 5208 and I love that you can tell he wears the 5712.
I'll never be able to afford these...why do I torture myself.
Not thinking like that you wont.
1mSiNi1 I bought a new Rolex GMT Batman 6 months ago... at 18. Anything is possible if you work really hard... and get two jobs haha.
these are millions of dollars lmao not 9000
dustyowl99 not all of the, are millions of dollars, to an 18 year old 9,000 is like 35,000
his pateks and ALS are on avg 100k each.. less the minute repeater, that would be 1.5 million, just for ONE SINGLE PIECE.
only the panerai, heuer and ikepod are less than 10k.
why does he alwys look so dissintrest in the intros lol
discomfort?
Cole Bruce it’s because Ben holds in a fart in the intro and lets it go during the interview
i think by now its a bit of a running gag because he looked so bored in the intro to the first TW and some people pointed it out

Lange so incredibly beautiful
best collection in this series.
I've only seen a handful of these Talking Watches videos. But it's nice to actually see a collection that's not just Rolex Rolex Rolex Rolex.
Great video, his collection isn't my taste but its impeccable and he seems like an great person 👍
That man had a real education.
Wow this guy knows stuff
My most expensive 'watch' is $300 Garmin Instinct (I need the interaction with my phone for my Professional life).......
......but GOD!.... These types of videos are so interesting.
Come on Lotto!!! 💰💰💰💰
The watch around the 8' mark is really similar to the Nest thermostat. I can see where the inspiration came from
That 5208 is pristine!
I love that the last shot left us with Lange - the best watchmaker in the world. Patek Philippe is a marketing company today.
Pretty close to my dream collection. Just needs a Rolex bluesy....
I want that lange...
One of the coolest watches I’ve ever seen
good taste. These designs are all unique and interesting
Nice collection . WOuld be cool to know what each of the people you interview are worth before or after we see the collection.
$800M
So is this a reupload of the previous version, or is there something different about this?
+MotionGaming Pretty sure its just a re-upload. Looks exactly the same.
What an interesting man, great episode
All these dudes that made a billion dollars overnight and bought a blew a bunch of cash ‘oh yeah my dad had a watch’
the strap on the first one is like an apple watch
Journe somewhat sorted out the battery problem with the Élégante.
The only a lange I've seen in TW
Ben, I am big fan of you. Just wanted to say that apart from liking this great video, you looked cool and handsome in the opening scene standing in front of Nest building :-)
Ive always wondered why people never compared the crap cheap apple watch straps (not the metal bracelets) to the ikepod rubber
Monaco was his best piece!!!! loved it.
That's a joke right? Both Patek's and the Lange are way more important and complicated.
Did you not see the Patek and Lange?
Advanced research would be my end all. Love love love it.
that is one of his worse peice
And since then Tony upped to a 5990. Dayum
Merci
Wow, that Lange Phantom is ridiculously expensive
Great video, amazing watches

That's a 1 000 000 US dollars watch!! (5208)
To be fair he does have $800m
Craftsmanship and design.
iPod (classic) !!!
Thanks for these insights
I wish there was a button for superlike for this video.
dat 5712 doe
Nice
Beardless Benjamin Clymer looks 19 in this video.

That Patek Philippe cost like 1 million dollars lol and is he wearing it
"Any typical Patek" lol
Cant take tag heuer serieus after the seiko event, im sorry
What happened?
+Oscar Brady it was leaked that tag heuer bought a seiko patent for a watch movement. As soon as it leaked they apoligized and said they would remove it. That shows you that they dont make "in house movements"
+Hidde I see. In my experience TH have a mixed reputation and aren't as highly respected as I had previously expected.
Hidde haha - when is anything coming out with the 1969 since I've been reading about it for 4 years ?
I can't take someone serious who can't spell serious. Also the Monaco he has is a Heuer model not Tag Heuer
That's one smart guy
Holy shit
He has the mother of all watches
The Patek Philippe 5208🤯🤯🤯
800 million dollar dude right there.
its very interesting guys
Yeeeessss, not even one single Rolex!!!!
Patek 5208p is a million dollar watch
Encore episode, why?
The biggest issue with smart watches is they obsolete them every 2 years... you might as well throw your money away... Those mechanical watches will outlast them all :)
That patek philippe 5208 would cost about 3 million malaysian ringgit a piece!!!
Ikepod I...pod IPod
lol lange "up and coming"
He should get a grand seiko
Epic : 22
The JLC 101 worth $26m
Did he ever get that Cartier?
Right? Right?
no spring drive reeeeee?
Everyone saying how great that ALS is, yet the numbers don't even line up in the date register. Wtf?!
Retire those dirty shoes.
When nerds get rich
One of the worst of the series, I felt no personality in this collection. Just status symbol watches for a silicon valley exec.
